Nets up 30

Celtics awoke their WING-attack. I wouldn't be shocked to see them hold on to the 6th seed
Claxton + their army of big defensive wings is really interesting. If Bridges and Johnson thrive more with a bigger offensive goal, they could have something. The depth of defensive options also allows them to try and incorporate some funky offensive pieces like Seth Curry and Cam Thomas.

This is why it's hard to take you seriously. Paul wasn't even in the game on that possession.
Whoever was on Kyrie was off the ball and out of the play. Whatever lol. If you feel Doncic is a better face up shot maker and shooter than Kyrie the convo probably ends there.

It's not some crazy position. If (as you say) the ability to draw fouls is less important at the end of the game, it takes a second to note that their efg% is identical this year (.571 each). Kyrie is a better outside shooter and might be better at making difficult shots over bigger defenders, but Luka is better at getting easy shots (and he got an easy shot, he just blew it).

It is very hard to get off an easy shot in these spots and I did credit Doncic above for creating that look today. Long term I’d be surprised if Kidd goes to this matchup as Kyrie is, as you say, better at making more difficult shots……he may be as good as any in the game today.

No Ja, Brooks, Clarke and yet the Clippers going life and death with the grizz.

Please relieve Lue of his duties

I amend my life and death, they are getting embarrassed. This team beyond quit.

Looking at their schedule, the next clippers win is maybe the 27th vs Chicago.

Popping in to remind everyone that the NBA is a game of runs. C’s game thread tonight sounded like they were ready to punt the season down 3 possessions with 7 min to go lol.

It's amusing to watch Knicks fans (and Bill Simmons) going crazy about a try hard regular season team that has basically no chance to make it out of the 2nd round. This is the NBA, and you have no shot at a title without a top 10 player. Jalen Brunson? Randle? Come on.

They remind me of the IT4 Celtics teams but the east is much stronger now.

I'm happy for Thibs. After he left Minnesota it was kind of concerning that the NBA game had kind of passed him by, that his style was outdated and to inflexible to adapt to were the game was heading. Going to the dysfunctional Knicks felt like the end of the line, but he's done a really good job getting the most out of the roster and has put together a strong team. I'll always root for a guy who clawed up from Salem State to the NBA.

If NYK beats MIL or BOS, then Randle will be playing like a top-10 player. Is it likely? I don't know. Seems like it really depends on whether he gets hot from 3P.

I think NYK might give PHI fits because they have enough size to maybe bother Embiid and it seems to me like NYK has more scorers (Randle, Brunson, Quickley and maybe Barrett) than PHI has defenders.

Playing Quickley 56 minutes in a regular season game is definitely on brand. CJM was probably in awe.

It's hard to see how these two meet each other in the playoffs before the Eastern finals and that's pretty clearly not happening.

Memphis is gift-wrapping the 2 seed for Phoenix.
I suspect the Kings might hold on to the #2 seed. They're good and fun as hell, too. Memphis is definitely falling ...what a punk ass team.

I dunno. The Kings have a pretty difficult schedule including two games versus the Suns. I’d be very surprised if they were able to hold them off.

Has an nba player ever gotten injured in warm ups?
Actually earlier this year Myles Turner landed on teammates ankle iirc and missed several games. I’ve heard of guys try to give it a go and reinjue/tweek an existing injury but no other new injuries that I can recall. Did Tony Allen do his ACL during warmups or in a game? I forget.

Wasn't it a dunk after the play was blown dead?

Here
LeBron would get an Edible Arrangements, with a ticket for a private flight to NBA HQ for a gauntlet of personal apologies from NBA execs and owners for that. Freddy maybe not so much.

I didn't see any of the Raptors game, but FVV comes across as whiny and entitled in that post-game presser and it's not surprising he gets a lot of T's if that is his attitude. "We're losing what the NBA is about"....come on man.

The league will seriously fine FVV, so those comments won't come cheap

The NBA needs to get much, much better with technology, the review process, technical fouls, etc

For example, having a ref review a TV screen courtside is comically inefficient.

Yeah i think the reports of him done for the regular season might be the case. It won't matter if he comes back for the playoffs, new team and players he has had what 3 games with, yeah good luck with that.

When this trade was made the Nets had already won it, no doubt a good portion of those picks will be in the lottery.

Just imagine if we had to watch Brown go to the Nets and multiple first round picks for this old man to come here roll his ankle and wave goodby to the season.

I know…..and then he continued his workout without a limp for several minutes. Where are our docs here?
While we wait for Rad Sox Fan, Brian Sutterer is always a good watch:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AekB-Mo4G04

Seems like he basically nailed it, even before official news of the severity came out. Interesting point about KD's lack of a history of ankle sprains likely being more of a negative than a positive in terms of severity.

As far as how he continued to work out without a limp: took time for it to start swelling up, I'd assume. Probably not smart of him to continue working out on it given how badly he turned it, but he's always been a tough gamer.

Holy shit. Love this. Dude’s going to lose a ton of money for this and he knew it and still proceeded with it. Good work, Fred.
Just read that the NBA is bringing in Hawk Eye for next season, which makes a shit ton sense.

Best known publicly for its tennis line calls, Sony-owned Hawk-Eye will also be used to develop future officiating uses for the NBA. Some examples they have been working on in a proof-of-concept capacity since 2019 include goaltending or out-of-bounds determinations, although specific implementations have not been finalized and may require policy sign-off from the unions for the players and referees.

https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Daily/Issues/2023/03/09/Technology/nba-hawkeye-player-ball-tracking-data

I do think overall sports officiating is getting better and will improve with tech/HD/AI advances. For example, we'll eventually get strike zone robots in MLB (if the fans demand it).

I always hold tennis out as the shining example for officiating changes/embracing technology. It's one of the more uptight sports and the fans demanded the player antics/constant complaining about line calls be addressed (funny enough John McEnroe made whining a cottage industry that he still gets paid for).

Tennis adopted HD camera/tech (Hawk-Eye) to address line calls to the point where when a Player challenges a call the fans clap, get engaged and enjoy the HD/slow motion/up-close shot of the ball VS. the line (article attached)

The NBA needs to add more HD cameras, faster tech and better AI to quickly access calls. Having a few floor refs go look at a screen and call Secaucus, NJ is deliberately antiquated IMHO. It does feel like the NBA (and the NFL/MLB) & Officials Unions want control over the product so they have added time delays to reviews. As fans of these sports, we should embrace and push for more technology to get a fairly officiated game.
