The way I see it it’s meaningless. The way the game has been played last decade, it’s a zero defense 3 point streetball free for all. These stats are meaningless.

Like the other day someone said Brown? Had tied Reggie in points in the same amount of games or something. Reggie only made like 20 threes in his career. These numbers are all skewed far more than what happened in baseball and steroids.

Anthony Davis must've been told what Bill Simmons said about him. Nice hustle play saving it while diving into the bench.

Nobody cared about the scoring record or called Kareem a top 5 all time player until Lebron got close to record.
Really? I get that there's a few favorites for all-time #1 (Jordan, Russell, now Lebron), but I'm having a hard time not seeing him even in the discussion of the top 5. Ben Taylor put him #1 in NBA history as having the overall best career.

The stats aren't meaningless, this is a record that has stood for an incredible long period of time and survived multiple iterations and evolutions of the NBA, and took a truly legendary player having a career of immense length to finally break.

I do think this season suddenly being 1962 again and the scoring stats being inflated does take a tiny bit off the actual record-breaking moment.

This reminds me of when I broke DiMaggio’s hit streak record in MLB The Show; they stopped the game when I did that too.

This feels like a record that may last all of our lifetimes. KD is only one remotely close and he’s like 12k behind. Don’t see how he closes the gap with LeBron still playing. Was surprised to see Steph so far behind.

Writers and the greats never mentioned Kareem until the last few years. Maybe it was because he was not well liked but Kareem being a top 10 guy is a recent phenomenon.

Here's a clip of Russell and Wilt giving their top 6 (6:35) and neither guy mentions Kareem. We get Michael, Larry, Magic, Oscar, Jerry, Elgin, Barkley, and Hakeem.

I wonder where Jordan would have been if he didn’t get hurt his second year or retire the two times. I think he makes 40k points. And that’s largely without using the 3.

Stupid people never thought Kareem was a Top 10 guy, IDK what else to tell you. Wilt and Russell are pre-Kareem generation so I can see them siding with a lot of their guys. The notion that Kareem wasn't considered an all-time, potential GOAT candidate is ridiculous. Career scoring record, most MVPs, 6x Champion, greatest college player of all time, etc.

where I was last at
Did KAJ ever make or even attempt a 3 pt shot? Apples and Spauldings.

Different game.

And don't believe AIRPLANE, KAJ was an all time great who made the game look too easy. LBJ scoring more points doesn't change much of anything other than a spread sheet

Steph stayed in school too long and has had worse injury interruptions. Puts the record in some perspective: sure scoring is way “easier” now, but this record requires two full decades of consistently excellent play with hardly a night off.

I actually remember him hitting one from the corner and it may have been against the Celtics.

They showed a breakdown of KAJ and Lebron's points, from 2-pointers, 3-pointers, and FTs.

In the 3-pointers row, KAJ had, over his career, a total of 3 points in that category. So he hit 1.

Kd is the only person currently who has a chance but the injuries really set him back.

I think *knock on wood* down the line Luka may have a shot.

Sure but they pick Magic, Jordan, Charles, Larry, and Hakeem in 1997. Top 10 was an exaggeration but I don't remember him being mentioned as a top 5 guy.

I get that just about everybody is a Celts fan here so the Lakers hate is a given. I'm not sure why James is hated above and beyond though. Is it the jumping teams and the attitude? I don't know. But this is a pretty big deal. People can minimize it if they want and say the game has changed (Same things get said in baseball). But the guy's resume is pretty darn good. Winning championships and MVP's on different teams is no small feat. I don't give a hoot about him personally but his talent and accomplishments are undeniable. I suppose it will be quite some time before this one is broken. Just playing that many years is a challenge.

Today's players have a nice advantage with pace and the current rules but that longevity is tough to come by.

Luka and Booker don't have the bodies. Giannis will need to keep his athleticism because he's not a skilled shooter. Tatum has the body and talent but he's already 3K+ points off of Lebron's pace because he played one year of college.

I’m in my 40s and for most of my life Kareem has been talked about as top 3 all-time, at worst, with many claiming he was the best. Not top 10? That’s an asinine assertion.

He made one at least. I remember seeing a yt vid of it. He was like 1-12 in his career or something. Shot clock was down to 2 and he was pinned behind the arc. I think Parish made one and Moses Malone’s last basket was a 3/4th court heave for 3 with like 2 seconds left.

Bill Simmons is the only person I can remember who had Kareem in the top 5 instead of Wilt. Before Lebron it was Jordan, Russell, Wilt, Larry, and Magic for 30+ years. I wasn't around for the conversations 50 years ago.

Kareem didn't do much winning without Oscar and Magic..

It’s almost comical at this point. He just broke Kareem’s All-Time scoring record, is already 4th All-Time in Assist, will probably finish Top-25 in Rebounds, already Top-100 in Steals and Blocked Shots…..f-bomb incredible!

LeBron's calf is going to be really sore after tonight. Might need a few months off, ya know?

Lebron being healthy enough to score 38 points for the scoring record then asking out of the last minute of the game (only down 4 now!) is pretty funny.

Jalen is the best of the Williams varietal.

Edit: Yay Thunder. And once again, good on LeBron. Its an undeniably impressive feat.
