The draft begins tomorrow, it's Thursday/Friday which is a change from the past.

Round 1: Thursday, July 7th, 7:00pm ESPN
Rounds 2-7: Friday, July 8th, 11:00am, NHLN, ESPN+

B's picks: 2nd round, 3rd roung (Calgary's), 4th round, 6th round, 7th round (from Ottawa), 7th round

First round order:

1. Montreal
2. New Jersey
3. Arizona
4. Seattle
5. Philadelphia
6. Columbus (from Chicago)
7. Ottawa
8. Detroit
9. Buffalo
10. Anaheim
11. San Jose
12. Columbus
13. New York Islanders
14. Winnipeg
15. Vancouver
16. Buffalo (from Vegas)
17. Nashville
18. Dallas
19. Minnesota (from Los Angeles)
20. Washington
21. Pittsburgh
22. Anaheim (from Boston)
23. St. Louis
24. Minnesota
25. Toronto
26. Montreal (from Calgary)
27. Arizona (from Carolina via Montreal)
28. Buffalo (from Florida)
29. Edmonton
30. Winnipeg (from New York Rangers)
31. Tampa Bay
32. Arizona (from Colorado)

The chatter is that this is a weak draft at the top. The Habs are playing it close to the vest. Shane Wright spent a lot of time as the consensus #1 but there seems to be some doubt he gets taken. Slovakian winger Juraj Slafkovsky has made a push to be taken first overall.

Not a ton of trade chatter. Alex Debrincat and Jakob Chychrun seem to be the most likely guys who could get moved today/tomorrow. Friedman said on his podcast he thought Thursday would be fairly quiet but there would be lots of activity on Friday. There are some teams dangling picks, New Jersey said they are open to trading #2, and Ottawa trading #7. Buffalo and Arizona each have 3 picks in the first round so they could probably move one.

The Bruins have been rumored to be poking around for a 1st round pick. Feels like those rumors come out every year they don't have a 1st. We'll see if anyhthing happens tomorrow or even Friday. FWIW, it's not in Sweeney's MO to make player trades at the draft. He hasn't done so since Hamilton and Lucic in 2015.

By numbers, BOS has the following draft picks:

2nd (54)
3rd CLG (91)
4th (119)
6th (183)
7th OTT (200)
7th (215)

The big, bad Bruins question, what's going on with Pastrnak's extension and could he get moved in a draft-day deal?

I am rooting so hard for the habs to not take Shane Wright. He's suffering from being the consensus number 1 for 3 years and just "really good" and not "connor mcdavid." I've watched him play a few times and I'd be shocked if he isn't a really good NHL player. I could see Cooley being more dynamic long term, but if they pick Slavkovsky, I will laugh out loud. He might turn into a player but how often does taking the kid with size and a motor who performs well in his draft year internationals turn out well? Never. That's the "please fire me" pick in 3 years where Wright and Cooley have 2 60 + point seasons under their belts.

My guy is Luca Del Bel Belluz because of course. He's got a wide range of projections from late first to mid 2nd. It would take a miracle for the bruins to get him but miracles sometimes happen. He's a dynamic center with a sick shot and Bergeron level defensive impacts this year in the OHL.

They technically can't talk extension until after 7/13. Latest news was Sweeney and Pasta's camp were set to meet at the end of the month.

The running joke with my Habs friends (I know, can I really call them friends?) is that once Montreal won the draft lottery, Wright was placed on suicide watch ;)

But seriously, despite Slavkovsky's rise as a top prospect, I think Montreal makes the sensible (and safe) choice and selects Wright.
They can't afford a miss after the highly unpopular selection of Logan Mailloux last year.

I agree @teds_head. They are going to take Wright. I think Juraj is a good prospect but all the NHLe stuff projects him as having something like a 25% chance of becoming a star. Those aren't everything but the path to him justifying a no 1 overall pick is way WAY murkier than Shane Wright's.

Some smoke around the Devils (2) and Sens (7) looking to move their picks for NHL players. Dreger has Chychrun as a possibility for both, but moreso NJ.

NJ's D is terrible and Chychrun is young and signed at a reasonable deal for 3 more years but #2 for him seems insane. If I was them, I'd much rather give it up for DeBrincat, albeith DeBrincat only has 2 years of control left.

The "but" qualifier was that he's felt/heard that before and nothing's happened.

Agreed, Guessing the return was surpressed by his contract status. Basically 2-years of control, and Ottawa's going to have to pony up on an extension to keep him long term. I think it's a no-brainer for them though.

Neely indicated the other day that Sweeney and Pastrnak's agent (JP Barry) were planning to speak while in Montreal for the draft, FYI.

How bad are these Blackhawks trades? I really only watch playoff hockey so I’m not a huge hockey fan but my twitter feed is making it seem like they’ve made two epically dumb trades tonight

Kent Hughes is making a mark, that's for sure. But he drafted the far riskier player in Slavkovsky and Kirby Dach isn't really very good. I don't know why the Islanders gave up the 13th pick for Romanov. Lou is not a good executive anymore, I don't care what anyone says.

Between here and everywhere.
Owen Beck is still on the board, and my personal binkie for the Bruins today.

If the Bruins were able to move up - Lane Hutson (closest comparable player - Torey Krug) is still available, but likely to go early. I'd also be interested in Jagger Firkus, 1 - cause his name is cool. Two, he's the kind of home run swing you take in round two.

I would love to root for a guy named Jagger Firkus.
Make it happen, Donnie!

Are there any trade targets still out there that make sense for the Bruins that they could do today at the draft?
Doubt it. I think it's more likely they trade a player for a pick than it is the other way around. They do need to clear salary.

That said, they haven't made a player trade at the draft since 2015 so I don't see why they'd start now.
