I'm literally far away from WEEI, so I don't listen to it. But tell me why Bourne has been so limited this year compared to last? Not trying to be controversial or hot-take-y, but his skill-set and route-tree (including carrying the ball) seems like it would be one that this year's team could use.
I'm teasing a bit, but the media has been beating this horse for over a month -- most likely because they think it's Matty P. doing what he did ghosting players in Detroit. So that means the whole Bourne is yet another piece of "evidence" (ie, whispers based on minimal information because most reporters have no sources within the Pats) that Bill has ruined the Patriots by bringing back Patricia. Exhausting.

Fair enough. As I said, being in southern CT, I never hear the Boston media/sports radio rants.

To put some numbers to it:
2021 snap count percentage: 51.8%
2022 snap count percentage: 28.1%
EDIT: Had 2021/2022 reversed. This is correct. 2021<2022

It would have been either the Wisconsin or the Michigan game.
I know we jest but didn’t Hoyer take a really bad head shot when he was with the Texans and went into the fencing pose on the ground? With the hit last week I’m genuinely concerned about him.

45% week 4 with Meyers out. We added Parker so, his usage is going to be game plan dependent as long as Parker is the WR 1 and Agholor is playing pretty well.
I like Bourne, but he's not clearly any better than WR 4 behind Parker, Meyers, Agholor, so he's fighting for playing time with Agholor, LJH (who is the big blocking WR), and the TEs and he's likely not seeing the field in 2 WR sets. He'll get more time when we have to throw a lot or guys are injured.

Kraft took the cheap way out and left it green. Should have went blue with red script.

This has me pretty excited about Thornton. Easy enough to keep him on Ir and use the roster spot for someone else if you didn’t think he could contribute

I was thinking the same thing - if he wasn’t ready to contribute and didn’t know the routes/offense they would just keep him practicing before activating him.

I’m cautiously optimistic given his route running in the preseason he could be a solid contributor this year - and the pats need the speed on offense.

So do the Pats dress 6 WRs? If not who sits out?

I think with Jonnu likely out, they may go with 6.

Guy and Mitchell are already out, and Mac and Jonnu are likely out. With other guys dinged up (Mills?) they might actually dress all 6. But something’s gotta give eventually. Lil’Jordan seems to have carved out a role for himself.

Can't see why they would activate Thornton if the intent wasn't to play him, but 6 WR seems like a lot. I wonder if Bourne sits.

They had to activate him by next week no? They have enough players who are out to activate him a week early. I would be shocked if he sees snaps. Hell they might not even throw 15 passes today.

They've got Cleveland next week, then Chicago the next Monday, then the Jets on a short week.

I hope they keep Zappe at QB for the next two games. That gives Mac plenty of time to get the ankle in good shape and lets him start against the Jets without being on short rest.

The counter is that letting Mac get reps against a bad Chicago team will make it easier for him to be effective v the Jets.

Damien Harris now expected to miss multiple games with a hamstring injury. Pierre Strong has been the 3rd RB dressing, but hasn't gotten any reps at the position, zero carries for the year. Have to imagine JJ Taylor is active this week and becomes the change of pace back for the near future.
Sucks to lose DH, mainly because he and Rham are so similar in ability to pound the ball. Strong and Taylor would both seem to be more in the style of so many smaller, 3rd-down/pass catching backs from the last 20 years. Kevin Harris seems to be more similar to DH and Rham, so I wonder if we might not see him over PS or JJT.

I think we'll see Harris and one of Strong/Taylor, especially if Agholor cannot go this week and assuming Montgomery is still not good to go.

IMO, Gilbert and randomly selected name from those lists of vet QBs might indeed be a coin flip at a QB skills competition, but that’s not what a Sunday afternoon with 60,000+ screaming fans is. So for me, in that case, I’d rather have the vet. As long as that vet isn’t Brian Hoyer.
Blake Bortles is retired. Mike Glennon was absolutely pathetic with the Giants last year. He was so pathetic that the Giants actually ran kneeldowns as part of the offense last year.

What do you mean? It says "Average Expected Points Added/Play". EPA no?
I've always had a difficult time reading charts presented in that format. Plus, when you look at the Week 5 chart against the Week 4 chart, the Patriots get a big bump from playing the gawdawful Lions. So, I really don't know how much stock to put into something like that

Godawful on D, but very good on O (thru week 4)

Short version:
The higher you are, the "better" you are on D.
The further right you are, the "better" you are on O.

The defense looks elite.
Does it? Maybe last week and I think that showed their potential. However through the first four weeks, I'd say they looked a little above average at best. Stats seem to be put them middle of the road as well even after last week. The chart above appears to have them below average through the first four weeks.

Hoping for good news on Barmore later today. Really need him to be healthy when we get into the second half of the season.

Andy Brickley's potty mouth
It is kind of odd that BB won't just say that Mac is the starter when he's healthy. This is the exact deflection he had during the Bledsoe injury and is in complete contrast to the questions about Cam "he's our starter".
