Been following the discussion a little bit on /r/golf about the bunkers. Some folks have said that's just how the course is setup and played usually (inconsistent / hard bunkers). I think it's a little weird for the PGA because I always think of the PGA as the inverse of the US Open. PGA is supposed to be course setup for perfect conditions so I am surprised they didn't soften up the bunkers.

Anywho, yea... I watched Tiger/Rory/Speith once I found a free stream then I picked up again to watch Scheffler. My favorite weirdo Kevin Na is sitting in the top-10 right now so I'm happy about that.

I like this course a lot. It's a very classic country club setup. I love courses like this.

I'm a Hootie and the Blowfish fan, and props to ESPN/ESPN+ for limited commercials, but does every single break need to feature the "I Only Wanna Be With You...." Discover Card commercial?

Are my friends busting my balls or did the mic really catch koepka talking shit about his ball comparing it to titleist
I wouldn't be surprised. These guys crank about equipment sometimes. Isn't he a Srixon guy? Those are good balls. Pretty much all of the premium balls are fantastic these days though.

Niemann is playing golf like I do. Up the wrong fairways. Just tried to punch one through the trees and smoked a tree trunk dead on.

That's the Manningcast they are trying out. I have not tuned in but it sounds like it has been a disaster.

The actual broadcast is fantastic, even when the CBS crew takes over.

Edit: For the NLU fans, it looks like Soly is on the list of guests for the Manningcast today.

Except he makes a bogey. You and I are looking at an 8 or worse.

Tiger made a bogey at 8. E through 9 today. Right on the cut line, which likely won’t move in either direction.

The coverage of the tournament is weird. Some of the cameras have some sort of cinematic effect happening with real odd depths of field. I wonder why they are doing that and I wonder what effect that is.

It’s that fisheye camera you see a lot now during football games when somebody scores. And yes - it stinks.

Tiger makes the cut. He’s not going to win but that was incredible.

Edit: All in all, he was low man in that group today

Watching him walk up the steps on the back of 18 was painful. His gait is so changes, and it really shows on anything but even ground. Pretty impressive for him to make the cut at the only two competitive tournaments he’s played since the leg injury, any yeah, they’re majors. He may be more of a physical freak now than he ever has been.

I think making the cut here is more impressive than doing so at Augusta. Full field, and he doesn't have the same institutional knowledge like he does at Augusta.

Hard to know what to expect the rest of the weekend. He lost steam at Augusta. I thought his game looked very tight yesterrday. The biggest problem is the unpredictable nature of the leg injury. He can have that big pull when he can't get off the right leg, and it's pretty much impossible to know when that is going to happen. That led to his double yesterday.

This should be a great weekend. I like Will Z but I think I'm pulling for JT and Rory. Let down for Rory yesterday but still right in it. Will Z is hitting the shit out of the ball like he always does, it'll just depend on the flat stick. The pause or delay on the back stroke on the short ones gives me nightmares but it's working.

Rory and JT as the final pairing tomorrow would be pretty terrific. Maybe with Will and Mito right in front of them for a little less pressure.
Although there will undoubtedly be a lot of changes on moving day. I don’t know what to make of Bubba, but I’d bet on an implosion.

Bubba did this at The Players. He had a really good 2nd round in the worst of the weather, I think tying or maybe even beating JT who everyone was raving about Then he imploded. I agree an implosion is likely.

I made exactly this bet against one of my college golf teammates, I think just after Tiger had just turned pro: he had Tiger major championships, and I had Tiger missed cuts in majors. At the time I was incredulous that anyone would take that bet; you'd basically be betting on Tiger to become Jack Nicklaus. Well...he pretty much did, didn't he?

By the way, here's an amazing Nicklaus stat: in the 44 major championships between 1970 and 1980 (inclusive), Jack won 10 times and finished outside the Top 10 only six times. (He missed only one cut in that stretch.) For Tiger, the equivalent stat is that in the 37 majors he played between the US Opens in 1999 and 2008 (inclusive), he won 13 times and finished outside the Top 10 a total of 12 times, also missing just the one cut; just as impressive as Jack if not moreso, really, given the much deeper fields he was facing. They really are two of a kind, and nobody else comes close.

Will he withdraw and forgo tomorrow's round?
He's in the running to be in last place after three rounds...and an odd number of players made the cut, so if he's last after three rounds and then withdraws, the guy down to play as the marker would be totally bummed. (I think he probably should WD, but I also think he's so competitive that he's not going to want to.)

The only way he WD's is if his leg is at further risk of injury. He's not going to go through all this work and then mail it in after a bad round.

I think he knows days like this are possible or even likely. He finished at around 7 pm yesterday then had a 9:00 am tee time today. His cool down/warm up process takes hours. It's also cold out there today. Not a good combination.
