The money is ridiculous. Every purse is larger than the biggest purse on tour. You are going to get some guys jumping ship, with Phil leading the way.

They're playing a Trump course. And The International, lol.

July 1 is just the John Deer Classic so maybe some names show up? The bulk of the schedule is after the Tour Championship and might draw some names? Do I care about team golf or seeing tour pros loop The International so it can brag about it and drum up membership interest for its reopening? No.

So does the Tour follow through on its "play with them and you're finished here" threat?

Yeah, they will be banned.

Not sure what happens with Phil. Suspect a lot of the group will be the pre-Champions tour age group, guys in their mid to late 40's. I know Stenson is a name bandied about but he wsa just named the Europe Ryder Cup captain for 2020 so I doubt he's going. Westy probably still goes.

Both The International and Pumpkin Ridge are Escalante Golf courses.

I haven't kept up with the drama at International, but isn't the Oaks the only one in play this year anyway? I thought the Pines was going bye bye...
No. It’s closing next year for the Coore and Crenshaw redesign. Both are open. This year.

Correct. Pines will close for at least a year for the redesign. They’ve already removed some trees and staked out the new design.

Would have been fun to see what the pros would shoot on pines as they could easily make it 7500 yards using some of the Old tiger tees. I have a feeling they are going to shoot very low on oaks.

How in the world do the marshals let spectators run across the fairway in the middle of a playoff?

I'm guessing the marshals weren't in position - would they have been waiting at the 16th hole after the final group moved through, just in case a playoff were to happen and make it past the first sudden death hole?
They are volunteers and not always the most astute and attentive people in the world. There are things that don't seem hard to the population of SoSH that seem very hard to the population in general.

And vice-versa.

Was hoping Reilly would make the comeback, but happy for Burns too. Seems like if Reilly played it safe after the drive on 5, he could have guaranteed no worse than double, with decent chance for bogey.

Really looking forward to seeing the WGC Match Play draw, which should come out later today. I've done a quick calculation and *think* that DeChambeau - assuming he does actually return to action this week, as currently seems to be the case - could be in the same round-robin group as Patrick Reed and Bubba Watson (along with Cameron Young), which would be an all-time collection of golfing miscreants.

Strange. I wonder how much this was Mickelson's call? I guess I wouldn't be surprised if ANGC quietly told him they weren't interested in him being the media story of their week but were looking forward to seeing him in the field in 2023.

It's crazy how fast he blew up his career and reputation. A year ago he could have chosen a path where he would be the dominant Senior Tour player, pick and choose regular Tour events to show up at, was the PGA Championship winner at age 51, was on the short list for those silly one-day cash grab matches, and had Callaway custom engineering whatever the heck he wanted. Now? Dead to golf.

Given how tightly the Club runs things, that's a good guess. Originally, I thought that that very same control would make the Masters a perfect place for Mickelson to have a press conference, apologize publicly and privately for being a tone deaf, dumbass moron who said some incredibly stupid stuff, and then have the Club back him up when he said, "I'll answer questions about this today, but no more," knowing the press would comply because the Club has no problem kicking out non-compliant media.

Law of unintended consequences, if there's even such a thing. I mean, he had NO idea this would blow up on him like it has. Here he was, thinking that who he was (the great Phil Mickelson - and I don't mean that in a snotty way) gave him great leverage in his attempt to either extract more money somehow from golf or to reform the PGA somehow, but instead it all imploded on him.

And just like that, instead of being a great pioneer and/or reformer of professional golf, he's a pariah.

Makes you realize that wisdom isn't as easy to come by as one might think.

Pieters has to play off a sprinkler head. The hazard line touches the sprinkler head so he doesn't get relief.
