The LIV guys did OK at the BMW. Lowry won. Reed and Gooch top 5'd. In Gooch's case that might be juuuust enough to have him qualified for the Masters via OWGR. He's 35th right now, needs to be top 50 by the end of the year. With seasons winding down, he's probably OK.

In Sergio's case, after professing his love for the Euro Tour he shot an opening round 76 then withdrew during the delay to attend the Texas/Alabama football game on Saturday. Meanwhile, fellow Spaniard, Rahm's buddy whose name escapes me, never got into the tournament from the top alternate spot.

One of my most memorable matchplay rounds I've ever played was in a tournament at Cruden Bay, in northeastern Scotland; I was 4 down at the turn, and on the par-4 10th hole I was in a greenside bunker in three and my opponent had a downhill eight-footer for birdie. I holed my bunker shot, my opponent three-putted, and four holes later the match was tied.

That's basically what Homa and Willet did, except exponentially worse and on a much grander stage.

a few random LIV Golf thoughts
1. the team aspect is kind of interesting and the best avenue for PIF to make a ROI
2. DJ/Cam winning is a much better outcome than Charl/Stenson
3. If they can turn a short PAR3 into a stadium hole (a smaller version of #16 at Phoenix) at every venue they could concentrate fans, add their Euro techno music and make the event more exciting in person
4. They delayed the leaders on Sunday so the shotgun start didn't confuse everyone at the end. That was a nice adjustment
5. Adding HV3, Tringale, Niemann and eventually Mito will be a huge help. They need the younger players to win
6. How they calculate OWGR will be huge. The make-up of that group will not be LIV-friendly.
7. I think LIV will eventually win the legal war here. The US PGA is a monopoly and has treated its players like free agents. Open and shut case IMO
8. PIF/Saudi investment is a non-event to the general public.
9. Somehow Jay Monahan has come off as more unlikeable than Patrick Reed, Sergio, Bryson, Greg Norman & the Saudis combined, simply amazing...
10. Phil needs to wear pants. His shorts reminded me of the Senior lady 9-holers at my club.
I disagree with the majority of these points (Tringale is 35 and has never won a PGA event, he isn't moving any sort of needle for LIV) but the bolded portion is really one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on this board. Monahan isn't a saint and he certainly deserves plenty of blame with how everything has shaken out the last two years, but being less likeable than any of those names you've listed is fucking laughable.

What even is the evidence for that assertion in the first place? (I heard something about his private jet travel for personal reasons being raised as an issue - is it related to that?)

I’m going to try to be polite, but this reads as if you are an LIV board member.

Putting that aside and getting to the substance, everything I’ve read tells me that the legal war will be a long slog with no easy outcome. What about this case indicates to you that it’s an “open and shut case?”

Lastly, the idea that Jay Monahan - known by exactly no one - is more unlikeable than all the LIV personnel you named combined is simply ridiculous to the point of absurdity.

I have no idea where the original point about him being less likeable than Norman and the Saudis comes from (maybe the jet travel?), but I do think that Monahan showed a lot of arrogance early on in the process. Not meeting with the PGL when there sounds like there was an opportunity there I think was a mistake, and they spiked the football early in the year after Phil's "scary motherfuckers" comments.

Of course, that pales in comparison to the pigs that benhogan thinks are more likable than Monahan.

LIV is 0-1 in the US court system so that would seem to run counter to the open and shut case argument.

Monahan is not without fault, but I'm not sure how anyone can say he's more unlikeable than the clown in the rope videos above let alone the rest of them.

I'd like to make this point, loudly: what the heck is wrong with the Senior lady 9-holers at ANY club? That kind of sexist, agist BS is why golf and the mostly affluent, white, men who play it get a bad rap, and why people like me - not senior yet, but a lady, and not always having the time to play 18 - are less likely to head to the course on the way home from work to try to play a quick 9 holes. There are a million ways to make fun of Phil's shorts outside of comparing them to women, seniors, or people who don't fit what YOU think of as someone worthy of playing the game.

Phil wore slightly larger shorts that looked like the capri pants that the ladies wear at my club.

I've deleted my LIV random thoughts post and will keep them to myself.

Why does he have a hard time lifting the trophy up? I looked him up but I can't find anything. Were they just joking around because it legit looks like he was struggling to lift it.

Where it rains. No, seriously.
Golfweek: LIV Golf is nearing a deal to pay Fox Sports to air its events. LIV would also pay for production and be responsible for selling commercial sponsorships, duties typically underwritten by the network partner.

“There were people at Fox who wanted nothing to do with this,” the source said. “They were forced to do it.”
“Any advertiser who touches this will get blasted,” a longtime sports TV executive said. “It’s a weak product but it’s a tainted product on top of that.”

Wow that’s nuts. Networks pay the various leagues to rise cast their events. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of a league paying a network to air their events.

The most recent XFL broadcasts generated no income for the league. Networks paid production costs, which are substantial, but didn’t pay any fees to the league.

other than that, I can think of the Mad Fisherman. :)

I want to say there were some wrestling companies who did this too. I'm pretty sure Big Time Wrestling did. I don't know why anyone would pay the company to air a tape of wrestling at 1 am on Saturday.. err Sunday morning technically.

Again, this is not a business that is trying to make money. This is a reputation laundering exercise for the Saudis. They need to be on TV for that to have a chance and right now the "product" doesn't seem to be worth anything so they're in a position where they need to pay for air time.

Because they pay the station $500 and sell the advertising for $600. If they can.

Shows like Mad Fisherman and TV Diner, etc, operated that way.

Gotcha. Agreed. Unless the station knows of an advertiser who will want the spot. BTW knows advertisers (wresting tapes, 900 #'s, other bullshit) who will pay to be seen by wrassling fans, which is why it can work for them

Ran into the Mad Fisherman recently while out at dinner with my wife. He was in the process of having a valet park his $500,000 Lamborghini out front.

The model seems to have worked well for him.

His dad is loaded, though I guess Charlies net worth is around $5-10 million according to a 5 second google search.

IANAL, but the approach to request throwing out the suit due to LIV inducing players to break existing contracts seems like as good an approach as any. It certainly twists up any judge who would review this. Courts typically affirm the free labor market, but also don't want to endorse the breaking of existing contracts. The "sports-washing" statements are really for the public and won't move the case one way or the other though, IMO it waters down the real legal case the PGA has here.

Meanwhile...between football and the Presidents Cup, you probably missed the French Open at the weekend, but Guido Migliozzi shot a 62 in the final round to win (nine birdies and nine pars), capped by this amazing birdie on the 72nd hole at Le Golf National:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoMnGFjsMm0

I think he was 13 shots behind at one stage on Saturday.
Sounds about right, Rasmus Højgaard came into Saturday with a six-shot lead. He made quintuple bogey on hole 2.

Reed is such a loathsome human being. Im not sure Ive seen anything positive about his personality or character.
Then they did a really good job defaming him, huh?

So that's the gist of this lawsuit right? Reed thinks thestardawg hates him because of the golf channel?

Weather is so bad in and around St. Andrews today that the second round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is being played...with a shotgun start. After the 54-hole tournament at Wentworth a few weeks ago, it's got to kill Keith Pelley to keep walking in LIV's footsteps.
Or it show that 54 hole events and shotgun starts should only be used in the most extreme cases when playing a real golf tournament isn't possible?

Just turned on the Golf Channel, how on earth are they playing in this? Rain and 40 mph winds.

Well, yeah - of course - but that will be lost on a lot of idiots looking for a reason to support LIV and make fun of the established tours.

Tim Barter interviewed Eddie Pepperell as he was walking from tee to fairway on a downwind hole - with an umbrella at their back - and Pepperell said it was definitely Top 5 and probably Top 3 in terms of the worst conditions he ever played in.

FWIW, I got married in St. Andrews - my wedding anniversary is October 3, so basically at this time of year - and several of my college golf teammates came over for the wedding. We didn't have a game scheduled for the Old Course as such, but we managed to all play together on October 2, because the weather was so bad that people weren't showing up for their tee times. That's what I was reminded of watching today's play; one of my teammates was from Guatemala, and for his tee shot on the par-5 14th, his driver slipped out of his hands on his follow-through and literally went further forward than his ball did. (I think he made a 15 on that hole...happy memories.)
