Hill, Wacha, PIvetta, Houck all could be below average starters. This rotation scares me quite a bit.

I share your concern, but I do think that the abysmal OF defense today made a big difference to Hill's outing. Replace Refsnyder with Hernandez and those plays might have been made.

It's spring training. You're right about the volatility here, but it's essentially the same as it was before spring training started, and will be on opening day.

Last year Eovaldi finished spring training with a 6.60 ERA.

The starting rotation could definitely be problematic, but it's the bullpen that's really scary to me. Of course, if the rotation sucks, the bullpen won't really matter.

For perspective, Big Fudge and Valdez have probably had the best springs of any reliever. Barnes and Crawford have looked pretty good. Everyone else has been underwhelming to completely shitty. Not sure where to place Whitlock in all of this, but he's looked like himself for what it's worth.

JBJ with a weak tapper to 2B with some ducks on the pond. I haven't been able to watch much this spring. Has he looked better than that at times?
He certainly hit a home run on one occasion, but I don't watch often enough to tell you whether or not the pitch was a cookie, etc. He has, when I have watched, basically failed as a batter.

Bradley homered on a 92-mph two-seamer that ran back into the barrel of his bat but has looked largely lost between questionable swing decisions and a lack of hard contact. His performance has not been that much worse than multiple stretches during his Red Sox career but— on the heels of last season— it seems much more likely that this is what Bradley is now and it in no way resembles a major-league starter.

And now homered

Is X hurt? He's had nothing at the plate this spring and now he's missed 3 games in a row.

@simplicio has now got me worried about X. If there was one question about him in the pregame or in Cora's presser, I missed it. Does anyone know anything?
Hah. I no longer finish typing than they mention it, and say there may be some concern about his wrist. Yikes.

FWIW, the official word now is "general body soreness" not his wrist. Apparently it is typical for him at this stage of spring training and no one is concerned.

Sounds like a nasty collision between Kepler and (son of Tom) Gordon in the Minn. OF.

Am I crazy, or does Houck's delivery look a little more conventional this year? Was it just the slider that had the more sweeping arm action?
