The Yankees have gone 10-17 since July 8th. In that time, they have I believe outscored their opponents by 23 runs. Not sure the last time I've seen that

Effross has a bit of shoulder stiffness, unclear how serious. If he needs to go on the IL, Weissert is the obvious replacement, but he is not on the 40 man. The easiest way to get a 40 man spot is DFA Marwin (2 for his last 36 and almost never plays) and call up Peraza (already on the 40 man).

People are saying they should bring up Schmidt if Effross has to go on the IL, but then they have no real SP options if someone gets hurt.

He hit his 19th HR today, 19 HRs and 33 SBs in 386 ABs, all in AAA. He would be one of the youngest players in MLB, born in June 2000.

Only 4 games up now, huh. The Yankees have been so far ahead of the Sox I hadn't even noticed how much their lead had shrunk (insert joke with George shouting about the frigid water). Will they right the ship? I think they'll probably hold onto the division, but if they don't at least win the pennant, Boone's gotta be gone, right?

It’s pretty unclear how much decision making Boone actually does, so who knows.

Even if they do hold on, it’s hard to see them beating literally anyone in a possible series. It would be a fitting end to this season if NY held onto the #2 seed and were swept by the Twins in the ALDS.

Right, that’s how bad NY is right now and have been for close to two months. They just had their worst 50 game stretch since 1991, their lineup outside of Judge is completely dead.

I don’t think anyone saw this coming. I mean, I thought they were playing over their heads in the first half but not anywhere close to as bad as this.

They were really healthy in the first half, they have had some huge injuries in the second half. Stanton went out and hasn't gotten back into rhythm, Carpenter looked like vintage Barry Bonds before going out, Michael King was huge for them in the pen, and a lot of other pitchers are out, something like 7 of their normal staff.

But also they went into cruise control, the team and the front office both, which I think you can get away with as a team if you have won titles before and really know what it takes, but these Yankees have certainly not done that.

Even after a 6-2 stretch (their first since late June), NY is still just 36-40 since their ridiculous 49-16 start.

I was curious how much this could be directly tied to losing Matt Carpenter so I researched a bit, but they were already 6-15 in his last 21 games started.

I am irrationally excited for Harrison Bader's debut tomorrow night. I don't think you can take too much out of his stats for STL this year, as he was trying to play through plantar fasciitis, but when healthy he is a Gold Glove level CF which has been by far the weakest defensive position for NY this year, so that should make their MLB-best defense even better:

But also this part I haven't seen discussed much, Bader has massive career (around 1500 ABs) home/road splits. 634 OPS at home, .820 on the road.

He played six minor league rehab games in AA, .872 OPS with one HR and one SB.

I'm really curious what the ideal playoff lineup for the Yankees will look like if everyone is healthy by the first round of the playoffs.

They have a lot of offensive players, some of who will have to be left off the roster, and some of who earlier in the year would be locks for the lineup, may not be.

There were also rumors this morning about Chapman being DFA'd. I am sure the Yankees don't want him to pitch in anything meaningful in the postseason.

A bunch of these guys are running out of time, not sure any of the position players will be upgrades on the starting lineup at this point. DJ could maybe replace Donaldson, but Carpenter and Benintendi I think have to be bench guys at this point, Carpenter defensively in NY's LF is scary. Montas also I don't think makes the roster unless he looks awesome in his one chance to return and they like him for one of the nine relief spots as an emergency second long guy behind German.

If they did dump Chapman (and it is very noteworthy that Boone namechecked six different guys the other night as potential closers currently and didn't mention Marinaccio or Britton or Chapman), they have lots of options with Weissert back in AAA and Castro and Ridings and Abreu all in AAA also.

Also Jimmy Cordero has to at least be vaguely considered as he has been incredible for 2 months plus in AAA, since July 1: 22 games, 28 15 4 2 10 40, a 0.64 ERA, and he took over as closer after Weissert was promoted. He is 30 and pitched 83 MLB games in relief from 2018-20 for WAS and CWS, yet another hard thrower.

Carpenter off the bench, Donaldson and DJ play matchup. I don’t think DJ will be healthy enough. Before he went on the IL, Boone said the only thing that would really help him is the off-season.

Yeah, fantastic news. Cashman has done such a great job rebuilding the bullpen over the last few years that NY won’t miss Chapman/Britton/Green/Castro at all when they (hopefully) all leave this winter.
