there is more than one way to skin a cat
Also, mostly unrelated, this is a terrible phrase that people should stop using. I am not a crazy cat person but this phrase comes from whether the cat was alive or not when the skinning took place (?????). Just a gross anachronistic phrase that no one should use anymore IMO.

Holmes hasn’t been very reliable for a while now, but sounds like he might be back for the postseason anyway. I’ve been saying it for a while, good luck to whoever is picking which nine relievers will be on the ALDS roster.

NY will not play TOR in the ALDS as they have clinched being ahead of TB, so NY will face CLE, TB or SEA.

Which one of those three would you prefer playing?
NY is going to really struggle to score against any of them, I think. CLE is playing the best but the AL Central is just 4-19 in postseason games since CLE lost the 2016 WS.

Anyway my answer is that I think all three are pretty close, and even if NY does win the ALDS, they have no chance to beat HOU in the ALCS. I kind of think that a HOU/NYY matchup would be the worst postseason matchup for NY since maybe the 76 World Series.

So NY will get the winner of TB@CLE, CLE has been playing great down the stretch but it has mostly been against the rest of the Central, they went 45-41 against everyone else. I think to answer Terry's question above, I would rather CLE advance in a long close 3rd game.

I think CLE and TB are probably pretty close talent wise, I like that if CLE wins, it will be home games so their very young team (the youngest in MLB currently) will get their first road playoff experience in the Bronx. Also their one series this year there was in late April, with that crazy 9th inning comeback ending in a walkoff and the CLE outfielders in open war with the outfield fans in the last few plays. This would be a fun underpinning for an ALDS series:

Interestingly Cole pitched fantastically against both of those teams last year, just 5 total ERs allowed in 6 starts (4 TB, 2 CLE).

Also the way this new system works, if the first round is two games, then the advancing team will have to start their #3 guy in game 1 of the ALDS:

3
1
2
4
3 on full rest or 1 on 3 days rest

If it goes three games, they have to start with #4:

4
1
2
3
4 on full rest or 1 on 3 days rest

And whoever starts the #2 game in the first round will only be able to pitch in game 3 of the ALDS, game 5 is just two days after that, so one inning max.

Do you want to go ahead and start a general postseason thread?

There is a lot of debate over the roster we can do.

Whenever I try, I end up disagreeing with myself very quickly and so I have not done it yet, heh. Maybe you should do it...
