This is kinda dumb
Army seems to agree
Would be funny if there’s a traffic jam on the Pike then

can’t they just use M&T or North Jersey or something?

Jax or San Diego I can understand but Gillette?

The 1983 game was in the Rose Bowl!

No arguing that Philadelphia is perfect, but they've been actively soliciting bids from around the country. I think I agree that it's probably healthy for the property.

This is great considering I live 15 minutes from the stadium. I want to cross this one off the bucket list.

You have to think the Patriots will request to be home that weekend so BB can go.

Yeah why are they moving it?
It has rotated before but always in the PHL//Baltimore/NYC area. Boston is a haul from Annapolis and all the midshipmen. I imagine this cuts down on the number of members able to attend.

But money's gonna money.

Not sure I understand why the Pike would get jammed?

Nice!

Any worse than any other late season Patriots' game? And why the Pike?
Probably how Army is going to drive there from West Point, but it also applies to 84 and 495

No, they happen all the time. I think I already said that.

Why are giving me a hard time here?

I honestly didn't understand your point. I'm not sure how a December college game at Gillette is going to have Pike issues that a Patriots game against, say, Buffalo wouldn't. Or a Fenway bowl game might have. It seemed an odd reason to suggest this was a bad idea.

If you don't understand, just don't reply. It's a bad idea because accidents happen and Army is leaving the day of the game.
This isn't a short ride from the hotel.

And edit: yes, it will much more 84 than the Pike. Or I guess they can take 95 most of the way
Forgot how south West Point was.
The road doesn't matter
The exact week doesn't matter
Accidents happen.
Probably should take 95 just in case they have to exit to stay away from gridlock. Many more opportunities on 95 to do than 90 or 84.

It would be interesting to see who else bid, and what the criteria for ultimate selection was. In any case, Gillette "won".
Certainly.

I’m no fan of PSU, but Happy Valley would seem to be a much better place for this, for a college football culture environment and also proximity to Annapolis (and just as good for West Point).
Perhaps it’s the lack of ability
/space for the “headquarters for game events” whatever that means?
study days are probably around then, maybe it’s that. Since the game always seems to be in a pro city/venue.

I always thought "Philly" was the answer to a big city venue roughly between West Point and Annapolis for a neutral game setting able to host 60,000+.

In that regard Boston/Foxboro is a reasonable proxy. Although train service may be lacking. IDK

And a little price competition for the game is good

I don't care what the article says. Army won't be leaving the day of the game. They will leave for the Foxboro area on Friday as teams do for every road game. It's a 200 mile drive from West Point to Gillette and it's an afternoon game.

A key driver of the construction of the interstate highway system was to transport troops throughout the country. I have no doubt that they'll be able to handle it in this case.

My stepfather is a Navy vet. Dude has zero interest in sports, but he's psyched to go.

Anyone know if Vets get extra tix for family? Even get their own ticket? Or do they have to be alum? Also heard that, other than secondary market, you could potentially donate to a booster organization for tickets.

Anyone have any insight for how civilians can get tix?

I don't know about the Gillette game, but here are the USNA guidelines for the 2022 game:

Is it possible i am the only one who doesn’t care about this game? I don’t think I’ve watched a snap of the series in my lifetime .

I’m genuinely confused why anyone wouldn’t love this? It’s on the east coast so it’s not much worse for Navy and it’s shorter than the distance Army has travelled when it’s in Baltimore or DC.

and for us … it’s great to have a national bucket list sporting event played right in our back yard.

Although everytime the national networks show aerials of Gillette I immediately ask myself why in gods name this stadium wasn’t build in the Seaport. But I digress

I love this, and will pull out all the stops to be in attendance. And worries about the cadets and the middies making it to the game seem absurd. They’ve got a year and a half to figure it out, and plenty of resources to travel just as well as they do to Philly, Baltimore, and the Meadowlands.

They also kind of picked a bad time to announce this. Should have waited until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week IMHO.

If given a year and a half to plan getting troops and support staff from West Point and Annapolis to Foxboro is a vexing logistical problem for our future military, political and corporate leaders, we're pretty much fucked.

Now we're getting paid, and playing at the Blade
Shout out your best price loud and strong,
But where'er we go, Philly or Foxboro
That the cashflow will go rolling along!

Complaints about the timing of the announcement are just weird; much life does go on outside this forum.

Sort of makes some modicum of sense to me to announce it while the sports media world is focused on Boston, but I know nothing. And it probably really doesn’t matter anyway.

I think my point was that it won’t be a logistical problem at all. They'll get everyone to Gillette just fine, and in plenty of time for kickoff.

The game is at like 2:30 or 3 pm. If it's just the student bodies, they'll leave on buses at like 7 am.
They leave to head to the game at something like 0500 hours or thereabouts. I guess w/the Middies it will even be earlier than that; or they have some alternative to that involving a sleepover. There's a big parade involving both student bodies a couple hours before the game that's a must see.

Yeah definitely. The Middies will come up the night before.

This post got me thinking how they fund transportation for students to the Army-Navy game. My understanding is attendance is mandatory which, in and of itself, seems odd that you could make someone’s official place of duty spectating a football game. I asked a few USAMA grads and they do charter buses for the game for all the students and I’m like, that’s gotta be a stretch when justifying that expense but I’m sure they have significant nonappropriated funds at their disposal. Or they use the superintendent’s slush fund. It’s probably not so much the logistical planning but the justification for the funding being used. Government fiscal law and contracting can be a pretty hellish landscape.
