Good thread regarding the draft lottery tonight
Today is MLB’s first-ever draft lottery, about which I have been inordinately curious for reasons I don’t fully understand. Here’s what I’ve learned:
— MLB adopted best practices from the NBA and others which included hiring Price Waterhouse Coopers to oversee/audit the process
— The actual drawing of teams will happen behind closed doors today. They will film it, but not for viewers — just to have that video in case… like, the Cubs or Red Sox end up with the first overall pick and everyone is wondering how (Like, Boston has 0.8 percent chance)

Not NOT related to the above in my mind, only one team executive will be in the room at the time of the drawing and that executive is Mike Rizzo. A reporter will also be in the room.

MLB official and former Mariner (next years draft is in Seattle) Raul Ibañez will then announce the results of the lottery one by one.
The Nats, A’s and Pirates all have equal odds (16.5%) for the first overall pick. Reds next with 13.2 percent, Royals 10. Brewers, last team out of the playoffs, have a 0.2% chance.

I’m just imagining the *~DISCOURSE~* if one of the big market teams with low odds gets the first overall pick somehow, but also that Mike Rizzo is most likely to swear at someone if he thinks anything isnt happening the right way. PriceWaterhouseCooper is one thing. Riz, another.
