10 million doesn’t buy what it used to
Every time someone says "these Mass Mutual patches are awful" instead of "these patches are awful", the advertising people have done their job.

Good morning gamethreaders, and I hope you all had good winters. These guys look great this year.

One thing I hate about preseason broadcasts is how they do interviews in the middle of the game and just ignore what's happening in the game. Just because the producers and announcers are bored and don't care about what happens doesn't mean the diehards who are bothering to tune in feel the same way. I'm watching to see how these players look and to see prospects and other minor leaguers, not to hear announcer stories or interviews with players that could be shown anytime.

At least tell us who is playing while the game is happening.

Ceddanne draws a 4-pitch walk! He laid off a couple pitches that were decently close.
He looks more muscular this year than he did last summer when I saw him with the Sea Dogs, when he looked even thinner.
And now he steals second.

Watching the throw from short soar on the way to first reminded me of a lot of things that are hard about watching baseball. Nice leaping grab at first.

Watching this game has been a panacea for me. So glad baseball is back.

This is also the first time in a while I have seen so many young talented players on the verge in one of these games, and not a bunch of older retreads not likely to make the roster or an impact anyway. (Valdez, Raffaela, Koss come to mind)

I don't love what NESN is doing with the pitch clocks. I get that it's the story today, but this should not be a part of the broadcast going forwards.

It won't really matter if they keep a small ticker on screen once the announcers stop talking about it. I'd prefer not to see it either.

But it's the best thing ever. Pitcher are actually throwing the ball instead of endless fucking around on the mound. Best. Thing. Ever.

Oh, I agree. The pace is crisp.

The pitch clock is weird for the first time watching a game with it. I think once it’s just there, that’ll weirdness will go away.

I don't see it at all. Do you mean you don't like them talking about it?
I like today's booth--is that Monaco with Merloni?

I saw a lot of minor league games last year with the pitch clock (SA Missions) and after a few innings I was able to ignore it.

Merloni:
"Big bases might be more infield hits because bag is closer to home."

But isn't it the same base for the first baseman, who is now closer to the throw by the same distance?
