Tournament’s underway in Moncton and Halifax. Switzerland already upset Finland 3-2 in overtime, and right now, it’s Sweden-Austria. Lysell’s looked good against a rough Austrian squad, with a couple of shots and a drawn penalty.

Connor Bedard certainly seems to be cementing his position as the number one pick in the draft in this tournament. Has been amazing so far in this tournament. Also has 13 pts in the last two games.

This year's NHL draft lottery will be one of the most anticipated ones ever.

Bedard now has a whopping 18 points after 4 games. 6 goals and 12 assists.
And he doesn’t turn 18 until next July.
He’s looking like a future star on the level of Crosby and McDavid.
I’m surprised there aren’t more NHL teams tanking hard.

Lysell turns 20 in a few weeks and has yet to register a point in the tournament.
Disappointing, but hopefully he tallies some points in the playoff rounds.

He has 19 points in 20 games playing against grown men in the AHL. I’m not worried about his production in this tournament.

Also, Bedard has been great but he's got 13 of those points against Germany and Austria who are looking historically bad.

Isn’t that what great players do though?
He’s one of the youngest players in the tournament, and has more than double anyone else’s point total.
And all the other players in the tournament play against the Latvias and Austrias and have the same opportunity against the weaker teams.

He plays a solid all around game, and really interviews quite well for a kid who is 17. I think he’ll be a star in the NHL and seems the type who can handle the pressures that come with stardom.

It was the best game of the tournament so far. I was concerned that Canada's coach double shifting him late in the third and hardly taking him off the ice in OT would backfire but the kid proved me wrong. Just a picture play goal with him going through all three Slovak players and deking the goalie. The Slovak goalie was fantastic in this game but Canada's goalie had to make a couple of game saving stops in OT as well.

I'd say running up points against stumblebums is not what great players do per se and tells me nothing other than he's way more talented than those players (which we all knew).
Scoring goals like he did last night though, that's what I want from my stars.

Bedard is absolutely a generational offensive talent and should be the number one pick. That said, I'm not sure he's a guy to carry a franchise from scratch and his 200' game needs some work, so hopefully for his sake he gets picked by a team that isn't a complete disaster (which can happen to number one overalls).

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead, Canada has been completely outplaying the US and is up 3-2 early in the 2nd. Gotta wake up

Refs getting it for a missed US Lewie, but I’d chalk that up to going Bay Rules at this point.

Also, it’s so on brand for a tournament based in Nova Scotia to use a Newfoundland band’s song about Newfoundland as its goal horn.

I actually think US has outplayed Canada. Canada has just buried their chances, and the USA team has been on the bad side of some puck luck, some bounces, and some referee decisions.

The 2nd USA goal disallowed was unarguably the right call. I didn't see the first one.

USA dominated the start of the third then Canada scored on maybe their 2nd chance of the period pretty much ending it. USA didn't get much going after 4-2. Canadian goalie won the game.

I doubt anyone’s watching, but this bronze medal game is bananalands. McGroarty scores a PPG with 2 minutes left to give the US a 7-6 lead, and Sweden gets a 6-5 goal from Bystedt to send it to OT.

The Bruins beat in this tournament was…not good. Locmelis had 3 goals in 6 games for Latvia. Lysell was 0 for the tournament. Not 0 goals, 0 points.

Canada spent so much of the OT trying to rush down the wing and cut across a line defenceman, only to get poked out. The first time they get a good 2-on-1, and Joshua Roy and Dylan Guenther combine to make a pretty golden goal.

Let the beer, donair sauce, and garlic fingers flow in Halifax tonight!

Feel bad for the Czech kid that lost that puck. Was hoping a bad turnover wouldn't lead to the gw.

Really enjoyed watching this for the first time.

It was just an awesome hockey game. Congrats to both teams!! Interesting that 13 of the Czechs play major junior in Canada.
I taught a Czech kid who played in Saskatoon. Maybe the best natural athlete I have seen. He went from never having thrown a football before to 40 yard lazers in about 5 minutes.
