Down multiple scores Dak Prescott is even better than losing 9-1 in the ninth inning Alex Rodriguez or trailing by 40 Chris Paul.

Per Jerruh Dak is going on IR, and they're apparently buying here at the trade deadline in that they're sending a 4th to Carolina for WR Jonathan Mingo and a 7th.

That's not buying, that's just keeping your name in the news. Guy's got one reception in the last month.

When you are grading it on the 4th to let Trey Lance be your emergency 3rd QB for a season scale the return seems light since Mingo might be active in DAL. He will probably contribute about as much as Trey Lance.
The list of RBs that went after the pick DAL used on Trey Lance includes Bucky Irving, Ray Davis, Tracy Jr.

A 4th (even if you're getting a 7th back) for Mingo feels like a real overpay.
Agreed. I’d hate that deal as a Cowboys fan. Mingo isn’t very good and the team is going nowhere this year.

Great trade for Panthers.

So, when McCarthy gets shown the door, what are the odds Belichick is the next HC of the DC?
No idea if BB would be interested but it would make a whole lot of sense. There is some talent on this team and they desperately need discipline and toughness.

And Jerry might be desperate enough to cave to whatever financial demands BB would have. He already did it with Dak, CeeDee, etc.

BB is ultimately a student of the game. He knows that Dallas is a premier franchise despite their lack of success this century. I would be stunned if he wasn't interested. But as you say, the talent is there, and what they need is in BB's wheelhouse. JJ should be working on the offer as soon as the season ends.

I would expect those demands would be less financial than personnel in nature. Jerry has had final say over the Cowboys roster forever – but he just might be desperate enough to concede them for a guy who could get him a ring during his twilight years. If so, get yer damn popcorn ready because a Jerruh-Bill standoff would be glorious required viewing and make the Parcells years in Dallas look like a walk in the park by comparison.

Yup. This simply has to happen. The entertainment value would be off the charts.

I would say it all hinges on whether he thinks Dak is a guy he can go to a Super Bowl with. His own window is likely pretty short, and I don’t think he’s the guy for any kind long term rebuild anymore. He’s obviously forgotten more about football than I’ll ever know, but I’d be very wary of inheriting Dak. I think he’s pedestrian, and very overrated.

Jerry cares more about running things his way than he does winning; more precisely, he thinks him and his son running football ops gives the team their best chance to win. He’s not handing anybody personnel authority.

If the reporting is to be believed, though, Bill wasn’t insisting on personnel authority in Atlanta, so this may not be a dealbreaker for a BB-to-Dallas scenario. Then it comes down to whether Jerry wants a persona like Bill’s as coach; bringing in the GOAT coach is necessarily gonna encroach on Jerry’s currently unchallenged influence and prominence among non-players. He did it with Parcells twenty years ago - does he want that experience again? I dunno.

I think Bill cares less about whether Dak can win him a SB at this point and more about whether he can help him get 13 more career wins before he retires or is fired.

The 718
watching Jerry solemnly take the questions from reporters about how bad his team sucks.... wow.

What a beat down. The ranks of potential BB suitors is swelling.
Really does make sense for both parties. QB in place. Star WR. Parsons. Diggs. Last place or 2nd to last place schedule. Top 10 pick. Certainly some holes to plug but this is a team that could be good quickly.

Is Jerry now desperate enough? Does BB want this? Would he want to go back to Giants for nostalgia?

I'd hope a guy looking for a good team's season and a half's worth of wins wouldn't want to start with Danny Dimes or Rookie TBD behind center.

Apparently you aren't aware that they cashed in the Dimes for some Cutlets in NY.

They need to just throw Trey Lance out there the rest of the season.

Agreed. But it’s also worth noting that BB has raved about Dak almost every time he talks about him. I think he views him as a very competent QB at the very least and perhaps someone who can take them very far if the rest of the team can play ball.

Dallas lacks a toughness that is always essential in playoff teams that make a deep run. The biggest issue exposed this season has been a complete lack of quality depth. Dallas has very good front line talent but their depth is just awful…especially along the Dline this year but even Oline is thinner than in the past and relying on a lot of rookies/2nd year players. You can get away with it when you stay fairly healthy like the last couple years but the injuries this year sunk them. They were also thinner this year than even last year.

I think BB could be an incredible asset to the team provided they shore up a bit of the depth issues this offseason. Jerrah isn’t getting any younger and I truly do think he wants to make one last “go for it” run. We don’t know for sure but part of me thinks the reason he didn’t go crazy this offseason was he knew he’d have a new coach next season and it would be an easier sell to a new coach if they had a lot of input into talent acquisition with a decent budget to play with.

But we’ll see. Jerrah wants to win but he’s also a crazy old man. So you never know what he’s thinking for sure. He’s swallowed some of his pride in the past when things went off the rails…ala hiring Parcells in 2003 after the disastrous 2000-2002 Dave Campo years.
