2024 Mock Drafts are more fun than this boring, awful Patriots Team

I'd feel a lot better about one of those MIN trades if they had the 7th maybe 8th pick instead of the 11th.
This is what I've been toying with doing these mock drafts.

If the Patriots aren't enamored with the QBs and wanted to trade down, taking a Minnesota trade that gets them 11, 23 and whatever else, I trade right back up from 11 to Atlanta at 8.

I figure if the McCarthy stuff is legit and he goes above 8, it would leave the Pats with either Alt or one of the top 3 WRs at that spot.

At least that way the Pats come out of the draft with one of the blue chip offensive talents, and Atlanta would seem a willing trade partner since they should be going defense and probably wouldn't be a huge drop off for them going down three spots.

I would absolutely hate trading down, but have just been seeing what it could look like if they do.

For the mock draft exercise, it’s reasonable to try to get back to 8. In real life, the minimum offer from MIN that wouldn’t cause me to just hang up is 8, 23, 2025 #1. Let them figure out how to get 8.

Agree with 8 being a lot better of a spot than 11.

The problem for the Vikings is that they already don't have a 2nd or 3rd rounder this year. So, if they wanted to move from 11 to 8, and they offered 11 + 2025 2nd (which seems like a pretty fair deal?) then they'd have only the following picks in the first 3 rounds in 2024 and 2025:
- 2024 1st - pick 3
- 2025 3rd - TBD

That's it. It's hard to see a rebuilding team give up that much capital.

So if the Pats wanted to get 8 instead of 11, I think they'd have to ask for:
- 11
- 23
- 2025 1st
- 2026 1st

And then trade back from 11 to 8 using their own capital.

I saw the most Patriots friendly mock of the season from a major outlet today.....

Noted clown and hot-take artist Chris Simms had the Patriots taking the Vikings trade then......

Drafting Drake Maye at 11 and Amarius Mims at 23...... it made me laugh

None of the trade back scenarios make much sense in reality to me.

This front office has no long term security. We absolutely need a QB and any trade up would be with another team that absolutely needs a QB, it's not like there could be some mutually beneficial trade between teams with different needs at different stages of contention.

Even if Wolf absolutely loves Penix, Nix, or some other non top 5 QB and hates Maye/Daniels... the idea that he would be willing to take that risk seems unlikely to me.

Caveat: No one knows anything (yet), but the speculation is that both NYG and MIN want Maye (with those teams including their LT in the trade package) but can't see NE passing on him.

If WAS takes Maye can't imagine a 'godfather' offer for the pick. If that happens and the NYG want to trade up for MHJ (which wouldn't be an awful idea* for them) then NE can trade to 6 and get either Daniels or JJ while picking up at least another 2nd this year.

*On second thought maybe it is. They can just stay at 6 and get one of the top WRs. OTOH, coaches and GMs on the hotseat do crazy things.

This one I tried was so ridiculous I had to post it. Here are the trades I was offered and made:

81417

Arizona moved up 1 spot for Harrison Jr.

Now the really crazy part of this was Caleb was still available at 4. This draft took JJ at #1

If the draft turns out this way, a lot of men in New England will need to see their doctors four hours later

ONE DAY OUT:

PFN:
81444
NMDD:
81445

Like #2 a whole lot more obviously, even if #1 probably has future picks (2nd, 3rd? Maybe a 1st?)

For fun, do the PFN one as the Bears to see the offers that come in for the #1 pick, such as...

Patriots offer:

Pick 3
Pick 34
Pick 68
2025 NE 1st
2025 NE 2nd

Williams/Maye gone at 3, so I accepted a trade down to 7 and the Giants miraculously took JJM (I was expecting to trade down again and load up on next year).

Dropping from 3 to 7 got me 38 and my second tackle and still got an X and possible difference makers at TE and RB in the 3rd and 4th.

DC would hate my guts for waiting until 180 to help him, but whatever.

FTR, no, I don't expect to get the QB of the future at #7. But it's not crazy talk that someone like the Giants loves JJM, and maybe all this talk about Daniels at #2 is a smokescreen.

Dropped back from 34 because the best OT left was Paul and it seems like reaching there. (No idea if it really is though.) Wanted a second OT but it didn't work out. Was hoping for TE Stover or RB Laube at 137 but they both got scooped just ahead of the pick. Tough choice at 180 between LB Eichenberg and Kamara. Went with the edge and grabbed LB Speights with the next pick. Grabbed Vaki at 231 because he has a cool name.

Not sure any of these guys last to the picks but instant offensive upgrades at TE/WR.

I haven’t really been following this thread but this draft would make me root for another team after 45 years of being a Pats diehard. That’s truly awful.

They trade from 3 to 14 and they also get what is it? A second and a seventh(?) this year and a second next year? And wind up with Penix at QB? P U.

Two mocks - one keeping #3 and the other trading it away. First, the trade away:

81513

And now the one where I keep #3 and draft Maye.

81514

I prefer Maye over Daniels, but I think I like the first draft overall better.

Wasn't going to do another set but changed my mind.

I am using a set of ground rules, because I think a lot of mocks are useless because they use dumb never happening situations:

1. If a non-QB goes 1 or 2 I restart.
2. I don't accept any trade down offer from ARI (not happening) or LAC (highly unlikely).
3. If Caleb is there at #3 I re-start
4. I don't take one of the top 4 QBs any later than 6
5. I try to keep any trade reasonable, so if I get offerred like 3 times chart value for 34 I decline.

Edit- rules ended up not mattering much (other than not taking silly trades from the CPU) as Caleb/Daniels went 1/2 on the 1st try at each site.

PFN simulator is still running (updated with the Round 1 picks). Saw what I could get by trading down from #34 and then back up. Got a 2nd and 3rd in 2025 in addition to some good guys, but as these last mock drafts show, no guarantee guys we want will be there at later picks (how many of the mocks in this thread had Penix at #34, etc.)

Just kinda messing around, I don't know much about most of these guys especially in the later rounds (although people I know who watch Texas say Sweat is a monster)

Zierlein released his Day 2 mock draft and had the Patriots taking:

- #34: Kool-Aid McKinstry
- #68: Cole Bishop

Yuck.

One more from me (been a slow day!) if we took a WR in the 2nd to see which OT would be there in the 3rd. I picked up a 2025 3rd and dealt it to move back up to take Bishop and Sweat.

I will say that Stiggers feels like he would have been a Carroll or Belichick guy -- his dad died so he dropped out of college, and then he tore up a 7-on-7 league and won RotY in the CFL.

Rasheen Ali is my late round dart throw -- I think he could be a capable 3rd down back in the NFL, bit of a Ty Montgomery type.
