Thanks @Trapaholic for getting the ball rolling here. I know it can be a bit of a silly exercise, but after reading a lot of the recent threads/posts, I really just wanted to start to get my mindset into some actual baseball and have a bit of lighthearted fun, that's all....I hope some of the others on here feel the same and post here amidst all the other doom and gloom.

@Big Papi's Mango Salsa if Grissom leads the team in BA, OBP and Runs, I'd be absolutely thrilled and that means Breslow clearly won that trade, IMO. I'm liking your optimism on him, I can't wait to watch him play (hopefully) most every day. He was certainly an .OBP monster all thru the minors.

Love the baseball talk. Truck day is less than a month away. But I’m not ready to make predictions until I know what the roster will be. I suspect there are still some changes to be made.

Thank you for this template! I will be interested to see how wrong I was when we look back at the end of the summer. On the offensive side of the ball, I have put a lot of eggs in the Casas basket. Same with Pivetta on the pitching side.

Going through both lists, something jumped out at me. This team will have a lot of guys with something to prove. Between O'Neill, Story, Giolito and Pivetta, it is a group of guys who at one time or another have excelled at the major league level, and have been plagued by inconsistency and injuries.

With Duran, Rafaela, Grissom, Abreu, there are some young guys with a chance to prove they are 1st division every day big league players.

We have some young, unproven players, and some veteran cast-offs.

To quote Jake Taylor, there is one thing left to do: Win the whole f****** thing.

Thanks for saying that, because I realized I had Grissom in there twice because you did!

I moved Casas to the lead in OBP. Not because I'm at all down on Grissom, but I think he's more of a "hitter" and I think he's going to get pitches to hit in the 2 hole. I'm assuming Casas will hit after Deves and as such, he's going to get pitched around A LOT (if Casas hits before Devers, you can move Devers up to the head of the OBP - basically whichever of those two hits behind the other will lead the team in OBP).

Not at all meant to be a "down" on Grissom, making that alteration though. I am a huge fan of the player, and I think that will be a really good trade for both teams (Atlanta will be fine having Sale two months to start the season, get hurt for three and come back for one and the playoffs, Boston, not so much).

I understand it is early. Feel free to base your predictions on guy(s) you hope or think will be on the ream as some others have done. Was really just trying to have a thread that put the focus on some actual baseball, as a lot of the conversation, although also very important, has been more about the ownership, the media, and the largely disappointing off season we are enduring. Wanted to make it lighthearted, and maybe generate some fun conversation based on what others responses may be.

@simplicio my wording for that one was awful. It should've read highest position player WAR, which would take into account his defense as well. In addition, I wish I'd added Most Errors to my categories, as well as Most Outfield Assists.

Because it's all for fun I'm going to project much of what I would like to see. That way if any of it happens it will be a fun season. I'm projecting the big break out season that we all want to see from Casas and I'm looking for "In the best shape of his career" Whitlock to become a leader in the rotation and Houck to thrive in the closer's role once Jansen moves on.

@Rovin Romine I know it’s early for this, I was just looking to steer away froma bunch of the other narrative on here. By all means steal whatever you’d like from my list! I did note to another poster I wished I’d included Most Errors and Most Outfield Assists. I kinda did it on the fly at work today without really putting much thought into it. That’s how much I want to talk pure baseball.

I hear you.

I usually do a poll to see what people think the record will be in bands of 5 games or so. Then in the thread people choose the exact number of wins they think the team will get. A series of questions act as tie-breakers (and are also just fun.)

Thanks for jumping in @nvalvo I’m glad to see that you’re bullish on Story in a full, hopefully healthy season. He really does do a lot of things on the field to help a team when he is going right, the K’s aside. I’m looking forward to him and Grissom stabilizing the MI, which was a complete mess last year.

If Story is healthy all year and plays to his abilities (say, a SLG-heavy .775 OPS, a bunch of stolen bases, and his customary good-to-great defense) *and* the team plays well, I think he’ll be seen as the difference maker, and that would garner MVP votes.

I'm in the wait and see camp. There have to be some moves incoming, right? Making predictions when the roster isn't fully formed doesn't work for me. I'll revisit this thread at the end of March.

That is totally fair and I understand people thinking its too early. My reasoning for posting it the other day is the absolute lack of anything else going on and bringing it back to some actual baseball talk that is to be played on the field with guys who are actually on the team. Some who responded even chose to project guys who they believe or hope will be here. Anything to make it more lighthearted and fun, as opposed to the depressing tone of other threads like Off Season Rumors where guys are just bitching and moaning and nitpicking and insulting each other because there aren't any actual rumors to discuss! Sometimes we lose sight of why we participate in a forum like this in the first place. Because we presumably enjoy baseball and the Red Sox.

Thanks for playing @Hank Scorpio . The two things that jumped out at me with your projections are: If our team leader in 2B, playing have of their games at Fenway, is only 34, our offense is in trouble. I can see Casas, Devers, Duran (if he's here) Grissom and maybe Yoshida all topping that #. And if the B's get that type of season out of Kutter, I think most of us on here would be thrilled. One can only hope!
