2024 Seahawks: Better late than never

Figured it was time to get a Seahawks thread going since we are two games into the season and the team has shown marked improvement over both last year and what expectations were for this year.

I am beyond thrilled with how the offense looks after the failed Shane Waldron experiment. Ryan Grubb showed flashes of brilliance in play calling adjustments in both the first and second games of the season but it was especially evident during the 2nd game when it became apparent that the run game was not going to do anything. That shift results in the first time ever that two Seahawks receivers have 10+ catches and 100+ yards in the same game.

Really?

Steve Largent never pulled this off with someone else? (mmmmm... Brian Blades? That squirrelly guy whose name is escaping me?)

I wonder how close Largent's best sidekick got to this

Blades is the who I would have thought but Largent and Blades only crossed two seasons (1988 and 1989) and Largent was well on the back end of his career by then.

A quick review of games show this is a pretty rare occurrence for some teams as that feat has only been done 25 total time since 1970. 15 teams have never achieved the feat, one team (MIN) has achieved it three times, six teams (KC, PIT, HOU, DEN, NYG, DAL) have achieved it twice, and ten teams (SEA, MIA, LAR, NOR, ATL, NEW, ARI, CIN, WAS, CHI) have achieved it once

My biggest takeaway from the season so far is.....

I thought Waldron was a mediocre OC.... I was wrong, he was much worse. SEA looks great with a new OC, and Waldron is committing crimes against football in CHI.

I think 13-4 would get it done
If you're inferring that they lose 4 games to the Niners/Rams and win the rest, well, I've got a bridge to sell you.

They've had the Lions' number the last couple of years, so a complete effort should be a win, especially if LaPorta is out.

It still comes down to Thursday night against the Niners in week 6. If they can win that one, they are a legit threat in the NFC.

Never say never, but I think there's only a 0.00001% chance that John Schneider would spend a first round pick on a QB. And they'll probably never be in the position to pick that guy (#1 overall).

The way they played against the Giants leads me to believe this team is shit and has no heart. They are going to get destroyed on Thursday by 30 or 40.

The score ended up relatively close, but they were never in the game.

This team is a serious threat for 3-14 right now. Only winnable games left are @Falcons next week (not likely since the whole team doesn't have their shit together and nothing will be fixed in a week), @ Jets and the home game against the Cardinals (the Cards home stadium is their personal house of horrors). Real easy to see a top pick in their future.

Yeah, I'm not saying they're good or anything but they also just got caught in one of those unconstitutional three games in 11 days stretches. Two were against good teams (the Niners have underperformed, but they were still relatively healthy) and the Giants game, although a bad loss, was in the worst spot imaginable coming off MNF with a TNF division game on deck. As it showed, they were also really banged up on defense for all of it. The schedule is a bear and they're probably not making the playoffs, but they also won't come close to losing out.

Is there any chance they trade Metcalf? Local media is starting to beat that drum and if they aren't making the playoffs anyway, it seems like it could be an idea. On the flip side, I keep seeing the Steelers as a landing spot - and Russell and DK did not get along based on all accounts, so I'm not sure about that one.

They don't really need him (and of course they are a hated franchise), but DK on the Ravens would be interesting, or maybe Houston.

I'm not opposed to it since he's going to ask for top 5 WR money and he has so many penalties and drops and mental errors that I just don't think he's worth it. It probably won't happen during the season unless someone wants to overpay. But I don't see Schneider giving him another contract.

This team is a fucking disgrace, can't step up when they need to. Geno needs to be traded or benched. The guy has made more errors this year than any of this year's rookies.

While he has been struggling....

The SEA O-line is right there with the Patriots in terms of just instant loss plays. Geno to me had 2 bad decisions, and 1 decision I thought might not have been bad but he got hit. But the basic answer to me is that very few QBs could give you more than Geno, and none of them are backups.

To me, that's no excuse. Geno KNOWS his OL sucks and yet he continues to put himself in situations he can't get out of and makes the worst decision possible. I count 4-6 boneheaded plays by him in EVERY game and it's frustrating to deal with. He accepts responsibility, then does NOTHING to fix the problems. People continue to make excuses for him and it's tiring. At some point, he has to take the fall for the offense being pathetic.

They have an average LT and the rest of the line is among the worst in the league, when you factor in Connor Williams' snap issues. Losing George Fant early in the game turned out to be a disaster, since Jerrell clearly wasn't prepared to back him up at RT after starting the last couple of weeks and mostly not being awful. That part is on him and the coaching staff. This team is consistently unprepared for anything. Sometimes they can make adjustments at halftime, sometimes not. That's on the coaches too. Macdonald needs to learn how to coach again and fast.

C Connor Williams retired today, due to personal issues and not residual problems with his knee from last year's injury.

Best of luck to him, I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision.

Olu Oluwatimi takes over for him at center.

Seahawks win a game against the Jets that no one seemed to want to win, and certainly nether team deserved to win, to go to 7-5 and a 1 game lead on the Rams and Cardinals after the Rams beat the Saints and the Cardinals lost to the Vikings.

Special teams were an absolute disaster. If Football Outsiders still existed, I'd bet the farm it was the worst ST DVOA in one game in their history. Defense continues to improve and Leonard Williams has led the charge. He has been a monster the past few weeks, getting 2 sacks in this game and a ridiculous 92-yard pick-6 of Rodgers that was the longest pick-6 by a DL ever.

Offense is still a problem, the run game just cannot get anything going and they just abandon it regularly. The OL is still a work in progress. This week they had a rookie at RG who had never played a snap in a regular season NFL game. He had 1 really bad false start penalty on a 4th and 1, but otherwise didn't stick out badly, or at least any worse than the rest of the line. Both tackles allowed a sack, but overall they are the strength of the line, for what it's worth.

Key game this week at the Seahawks House of Horrors in Glendale, AZ. A win effectively gives them a 3 game lead on the Cardinals with a sweep of their series. The rest of the schedule is a bear (literally, in 1 week's case), hosting GB and MIN, then finishing @CHI on a short week and @ LAR. The 3 road games are the most important, especially the 2 division games.

At least you have a promising future at QB. :)
true i wouild love to be in your div through SF is headed toward a rebuild Rams are too young overall and once they lose stafford mcbay will be a year or two behind zona with murrsy size once he loses his speed in 3-5 years zona could fall quick it might not be a bad idea in the offseason to sign wilson back to a 1 yr deal or keep smith for 25 and look to get a QB no later than 26
