They went full throttle and we don’t like that around these parts. Can someone please explain to me all the Dodgers distaste on this board?
if it’s because they spend a lot, sorry, that’s
good for the game and, ya know, the actual talent that makes this game what it is
if it’s because their fans suck, yeah, they don’t have nearly as many die hards as Boston. I can see where that may not help build a kindred spirit but why would it lead to loathing?
curious to read from those who don’t like them.
to me, all the talent makes them likable and interesting and Ohtani is easily the best thing since sliced bread, a true unicorn, and Mookie is an all time favorite. So yeah.
Players getting paid a lot is good. Two teams buying all the players and spending their way into the world series is boring as shit. Can someone please explain to me all the Dodgers distaste on this board?

It's on MLB to institute a salary cap like the other leagues. (But they probably don't mind)Players getting paid a lot is good. Two teams buying all the players and spending their way into the world series is boring as shit.
I didn't use to loathe them. When I first moved to LA I went to Dodgers games all the time and really respected their die hards and the history and heritage of their Mexican American fanbase. A few things have turned me off on them, valid or not:Can someone please explain to me all the Dodgers distaste on this board?

For me (age 59), the 1975 Sox really made me a fan, but 1977 took it to another level, because TV-38 came to my cable system in Connecticut that year, so I was able to watch a ton of games of the Crunch Bunch, a tremendously fun team. I was mad at the Dodgers for losing to the Yankees in the World Series, and somehow even 12-year-old me knew Tommy Lasorda was an a-hole (I couldn't actually say the word at age 12 because my parents might hear. Can someone please explain to me all the Dodgers distaste on this board?

I blame John Henry for that. Somebody was going to get Mookie and it wasn't the acquiring team's fault John Henry has become a cheap fucking bastard after winning 4 titles.2) I am fully and forever bitter about Mookie Betts and that they were the beneficiary of that entire debacle.
And Kopech and Dave Roberts!Break their hearts again, Dave, Mookie, Kique and Tilt!

I don’t really get this sentiment. Why?Players getting paid a lot is good.
Do you really think if the players would be paid, let's say, half of what they currently make that prices of tickets and concessions would be lower? No, the only thing that would be different is that the owners would have more money in their pockets.I don’t really get this sentiment. Why?
Everything associated with going to the ballpark is overpriced, at least half the teams are almost never going to be serious players for the top free agents. Third rate players getting $20M does nothing to enhance anyone’s enjoyment of the game. Other than the players.
I agree, and I love Mookie and Enrique and Ohtani and Freeman. And Will Smith might be the best all around catcher on the planet. And I hope they beat the Yankees so badly that the Yankees just forfeit their 2025 season.I've brought this up a few times, but going to do it again. Why the hate on this board for the Dodgers spending money? They're the exact model the Sox want to be. Rays with money. Baseball analytics machine with FA dollars. Friedman and Guggeheim are the model.
Capitalism is great. The billionaire owners got you blaming the millionaire players for ticket prices. It’s like when people blame fast food workers for wanting minimum wage cuz it makes their cheeseburgers cost 20 extra cents. Labor isn’t the greedy one. You and me are labor.I don’t really get this sentiment. Why?

Yep. 100%. MLB finally gets the two financial heavyweights to go at it. Should be good theater. Go Dodgers. What you said
The dates were set a while back, and had to take into account the possibility of the LCS's going seven games. Why are we waiting 5 days to start? Game 1 should be Wednesday.
Yeah, it sucks that the Yankees might win a title but any baseball fan should want to see Ohtani on the biggest stage possible. And with Judge, Soto, Mookie, Stanton and Freeman, you have a ton of additional talent as well. There’s what, 5-6 MVPs in that group? Hopefully Freeman can play or Kirk Gibson a pinch hit opportunity at some point. This is a great matchup. The Heavyweight Title Fight. It’s good for baseball. Most of us here are fans of smaller teams that can’t spend like this, but it’s still fun to see the big boys on the big stage.
Sure, but this is sports hate and it's not supposed to be rational. That's like saying I can't hate a team for always winning because that's what I want for my time.I've brought this up a few times, but going to do it again. I also like Freeman and Kiké, and Will Smith might be the best all around catcher in the sport now that JT is starting to fade a bit.I know I’m not supposed to like the Dodgers, but it’s hard not to root for Mookie and Ohtani.
Yep. This is where I'm at and I don't understand all of the hate watching. When the Sox are in the Series, I don't watch, I'm just happy if they lose.I learned in 2000, after about a decade and a half of being a diehard baseball fan, that I'm not actually required to watch the World Series if I'm not going to enjoy it. I'm sure I'll catch a few innings here and there, and I'd probably make a Game #7 a top priority, but I'll take the same approach as then and wait to see if anything happens that might pique my interest.
Difference here is we’re talking about 2 generational talents in Judge/Ohtani squaring off in their first WS. I get not wanting the Yankees to win but no chance in hell I’m missing out on Ohtani, Soto, Judge, Betts in the same WS.Yep. This is where I'm at and I don't understand all of the hate watching. This might be the year that I learn this myself.I learned in 2000, after about a decade and a half of being a diehard baseball fan, that I'm not actually required to watch the World Series if I'm not going to enjoy it. No, that's fair. Baseball fans should watch because this will be a spectacle in that sense. East Coast vs West Coast, huge stars on both teams, teams that were vying for the same free agents last year, etc., etc.Difference here is we’re talking about 2 generational talents in Judge/Ohtani squaring off in their first WS. If it were Yankees vs Brewers or something, then I’d get this sentiment more.
Yeah, I don’t hate the Dodgers. More like annoyance but there is a lot to like about the team they’ve put together/bought. Ditto for Yankees. I love everything about Soto and Judge is a seemingly really good dude. No, that's fair. Baseball fans should watch because this will be a spectacle in that sense. I think I'm just surprised that everyone here hates the Dodgers. They have a million former Red Sox players, and ones who were liked! It's not like you are having to root for a suddenly good Carl Crawford or something.
I hate the economics of baseball. I hate that Ohtani and one of Yamamoto, Glasnow, Betts, etc. get paid more than all the A's, Rays, Pirates, Marlins, Orioles, or Guardians combined. As a Sox fan, I feel whiny making this complaint, as our economic advantage is a big part of why we've (recently and historically) had as much success as we've had. But the increasing economic inequality in MLB (and society) is having a marked effect on my interest. It feels like, more so than the other North American pro sports, success for your team in MLB is largely based on how rich your owner is, or whether or not your city is a major market.I think I'm just surprised that everyone here hates the Dodgers.
