Forest host Newcastle tonight, get those FPL changes in.

https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/announcement/club-statement-patrick-vieira/

With “enormous regret,” Palace sack Vieira.

So difficult. What do you do with an attack that is so badly misfiring? Is this too little too late?

Candy?
I’m disappointed. The results clearly haven’t been good since the WC break. The attack has been anemic. I think they’ve really missed what Gallagher brought them last year, and haven’t figured out how to play around it, and I suppose that partly rests on the manager. Maybe the seeming regression of Mateta and Eduoard do too. But also, Palace hasn’t kept up with the relentless arms race that is the PL, and that’s certainly not PV’s fault. It’s going to be even tougher to generate offense next season with Zaha almost definitely gone.

It’s commendable they’ve stayed in the league for as long as they have. It seemed like they had ambition to advance from there, and Vieira was part of that, and did seem to help immensely with the recruiting they did do. But it’s also got to be super-frustrating to see clubs like Brentford and Fulham challenging for European spots (to say nothing of Brighton), while Palace get dragged into another relegation fight. I have no idea who they are going to get better than Vieira, and will likely end up with someone worse, despite the relatively attractive roster and situation. But this team’s problems aren’t going to be fixed by an Allardyce or Pulis shoring up the defense to scrap out draws to stay above water.

TL;DR - Not the move I would have made, but it’s not my money on the line, and I guess I understand.

I continue to lament that you didn't warn me it would be this way, despite unambiguous proof that you did :p

It's a bummer, there was a definite vibe that they were on the upswing after last year. I really picked them up as a team last year and they were really exciting and fun to watch, even the losses it felt like they either outplayed their opponents or the top tier teams that beat them seemed lucky to get out with a win vs a tie or even a loss. It hasn't been that same vibe this year, and as the article notes the transition to a very defensive minded style meant that scoring opportunities were extremely limited. Just not the same joy to watch this year as last. How much to blame Vieira vs the roster is always in the eye of the beholder. Should be an "interesting" rest of the season.

Nicely worked chance for Willock goes wanting in the opening minutes of Forest-Newcastle.

I like Newcastle's Delaware-DMV color scheme in this away kit. Even though they have a sponsor now, Forest's kits still look rec-league.

I'm sorry, I say this every gamethread and it's not nice, but Steve Cooper is not a handsome fellow.

25' and Newcastle have nothing to show for their dominance. I smell a goal for Forest against the run of play if the Horsepunchers don't do something here.

..... LIVE EDIT: 26' here it is. Forest pounce on a boobbled back-pass. Emmannuel Dennis (how did he get onto this side?) from a very tough angle.

I swear to God, that all happened seconds after I idly speculated about it. Forest were just white-knuckling up to then.

Shelvey lays one in on Longstaff and gets a booking. Just like old times in training!

And so typical of the struggling side against a superior opponent- Forest look to take a lead into the locker room but can’t, Issk nets at 45+2

haha yeah I *definitely* warned you. You’re still young @Mr Jums. You could still become a Man City or Arsenal or even a Newcastle fan if you wanna get crazy. You still have your whole football life ahead of you.

If it were any day other than today, I’d say, “thank god for Union Berlin.”

This sport is cruel. I honestly think that only a few people actually enjoy it. Which is basically the main attraction. Which is also pretty fucked up, if you think about it.

Now both Southampton CBs have come off with injuries in the first half.

Pedro Porro has gotten himself into a lot of dangerous positions since coming to the team, but he's skied a bunch of chances over the bar. He finally keeps one just under the bar and the result is an unstoppable finish.

Southampton catch Spurs sleeping right out of the half, a tap in for Che Adams. Pain.

Kulu picks out Kane who scores another headed goal to put Spurs up 2-1. 21 goals for Kane on the season, who'd be running away with the golden boot if it wasn't for the Norwegian Robot at the Ehtiad.

Have not seen it, but the EPL app tells me that Jonny scored a goal for Wolves from "more than 35 yards out."

Perisic scores his first PL goal with a lovely bouncing shot to make it 3-1.

Leeds led Wolves 3-0 in the second half but Wolves have got two back with ten minutes to play.

Terrible Spurs defense instantly throws Southampton a lifeline with Walcott getting free off a messy cross and slotting it home. Ugh.

Penalty that was both kinda dodgy but still foolish to give completed the Spurs throwaway of their lead.

It did not look like Sarr touched him. I can't really blame him, he's going to clear the ball and Maitland-Niles leaps in from behind and maybeeeee gets clipped a little? It's also one of those penalties where the player who gets fouled is just no where close to being near a goal scoring chance.

By definition of the rule it's a penalty.. but I agree with you (even as an Arsenal fan) that PKs are doled out far too easily and shouldn't be given for players going away from goal.. but I'd even go further for when players try to dribble away from goal to try and get tripped by the keeper but clearly wouldn't be able to regain control regardless... and when the defender can't even see the offensive player coming in from behind. Not sure how you could make those distinctions and I wouldn't want to give even more unclear decisions to VAR or the refs, but with the modern speed of the game it's almost impossible to play defense in the box.

With that said.. Mr.Kane or Son have gotten the benefit of quite a few fairly weak pk calls over their careers in my wholly unbiased opinion. ;)

edit: given how Sarr reacted after the kick it looks like he knew he hit him.. he didn't put his foot down, but instead hopped twice which would seem to be something you'd do if you hit someone.. It could also be a reaction to hyperextending as well I suppose.

Joao Felix at 55, and now Everton have to chase. They frustrated Chelsea in the first half but haven’t been doing enough.

It’s his classic end of tenure press conference, yeah.
Yep. I’ll be stunned if he manages another Spurs game after that. I mean, he has some fair points, but I can’t imagine any Spurs player wanting to play for him now.

It’s the club’s fault, it’s the players’ fault.. it’s the losing culture of Spurs fault. In a nutshell that summarizes his rant.

His English isn't quite up to it, but he basically called it a horseshit club with horseshit players. Man.

I'm assuming he's already had at least one potential landing spot tap him on the shoulder. If he hasn't, that was even more bonkers.
Well.. from a financial standpoint, he’s not hurting for money. I mean he was getting paid around $18 M a year. But with added health issues he’s not that desperate. I think he can sit out for a year if he wanted.

I'm not sure Palace would hit water if they fell out of a boat right now (yes, I know he was offside, but he didn't).

This was not the opponent Palace needed this weekend. Arsenal are firing on all cylinders.

probably a multi game suspension for Mitrovic in the PL right? Fulham’s European quest is toast.

Thank god I watched the Union Berlin game after the Palace one. And Bayern lost too, which makes tonight even better.
