I saw the whole game. I don't know which I enjoyed more: the insanely hot 3-pt. shooting in the first half, or the incredible defense they deployed on the Stephen Curry and the Warriors. I'm leaning toward the defense.

I also watched the UConn-Seton Hall game. UConn Celtics 231, Seton Hall Warriors 149.

PP seems like the kind of guy that’s going to walk into the locker room and give everyone shit that he had to lead the team in minutes.

For me, it was about the defense. Shooting comes and goes - although this offense is a thing of beauty - but that level of defensive intensity and intelligence can be there every night in a playoff series.

I think the Warriors are still in their heads. But not in a way that is remotely good for the Warriors. That was extremely satisfying.

Draymond coming out and starting the game trying to get in Brown's head by letting him shoot wide open threes and Jaylen just completely burying the Warriors is maybe my favorite moment of the season so far.

The explanation for that galaxy brain move is apparently too cosmic for my human brain to comprehend.

My only regret is that they couldn't hold GSW under 82 for the game.

Agree about the defense. That's the kind of defense I expect to see all through the playoffs and it will be amazing to watch.

While Steph definitely put up a stinker, I think the Kuminga show was my favorite for the Dubs - 2-9, 0-2 from three, 3 boards, 2 assists, 1 turnover, 6 points, and a -30 in 19:40 of game time. He wanted to go at Tatum so badly and Tatum made him look like a G-leaguer. Just delicious.

Derrick White had more assists (8) in 19:41 of game time than all but one Warriors starter had POINTS. Moses Moody managed to put up 11.

35 assists to 7 turnovers has to be pretty high up there in NBA history for a game, no?

Meh, there have been a bunch of sub 7 turnover games. Many.

And today the Celtics were missing their 7'3", highly mobile rim protector.

To be fair, Kornet at times proved too big for the Warriors small ball lineups.

with Al in there instead of Porzingis, there was much better switchability , and the Celtics just put a blanket over Steph Curry and the entire warriors offense

On Friday’s First to the Floor pod the crew did a great job nitpicking what weaknesses if any this team has.
One observation was that this team doesn’t turn the other team over that much. The conclusion really was that they don’t gamble and just play solid 1:1 D until they break the opposition with their offense.
What jumped out to me in this game was the 17:7 turnover advantage.
When they’re locked in on D even the turnovers come

Yeah as valuable as KP's rim protection is, I think Horford stronger perimeter skills are a better fit (defensively) against the Warriors. Not the case with most.

Tillman also look good in coverage out on the floor today against Golden State. He also sets a solid pick, and knows what to do with the ball on the short role after Tatum is doubled. He’s the perfect low-cost understudy to Horford

Looking at Tillman today I thought “he’s the size of Lebron”. He’s a big kid who can kinda do everything except shoot.

The last month or so has been sublime for C's fans but today may have been the high water mark. We got it all - Draymond disrespecting Jaylen with the latter making the Warriors pay, the C's flexing on both ends of the floor, literally playing the Dubs core off the floor and a blowout on national tv. The latter won't matter in the scheme of things but still feels meaningful given the recent battles between the two teams.

So i jokingly suggested that they left JB alone bevause they knew they couldnt guard him straight up. Celtics knew it too.
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/03/03/sports/celtics-warriors-2/

Joe Mazzulla didn’t panic after that painful, frustrating December loss in San Francisco. While the Celtics lost in overtime, chucked 58 3-pointers, and committed several defensive miscues, the against-the-grain coach walked away encouraged.

The consensus from the coaching staff after that game was a revelation that wasn’t the case in their previous meetings, especially in the NBA Finals.

“They can’t guard us,” was the collective message the Celtics walked away with after that defeat against the Warriors.

GSW apparently decided about 15 minutes before they left the locker room that they would let JB shoot. If JMazz allowed this to happen, some people would be calling for his head.
After the loss, Warriors stars Draymond Green and Stephen Curry revealed the origin of the Warriors’ unsuccessful tactic.
“We implemented our strategy, like 15 minutes before we left the locker room.it didn’t work,” Green said. “Oh, well, we move on. It’s ok. I thought it was fun to try. I was actually all for it. Like, let’s try it and see if it works. It don’t go well, oh well. If it does, we found something. All right, it ain’t work. So we move on.”

Further:

“When you have a creative idea and it doesn’t work, you take the ball out of the basket,” Curry said. “They’re hitting 10 3s in the first quarter. That’s what we used to do to teams. It’s kind of demoralizing. Especially on the road, when a shot you’re comfortable with giving up or whatever the case is, they’re taking advantage of. Then you feel like you have to play home-run basketball and then try to make it up. That’s where the momentum shift just kept going their way and going their way. Then every little play goes their way and you look up and you’re down 40. So just one of those nights.”

But it meant more to the Celtics. Ok, Bob …

Just watched the highlights for roughly the fifth time. It’s incredible how cooked saric was no matter who he was guarding. Absolute toast

Steve Kerr, greatest coach in the world.

I’ve been on Kerr being the most overrated coach of this generation for quite some time. He’s been smart enough to allow Curry to be Curry and Draymond to do Draymond things while Klay occasionally goes nuclear. So he’s essentially KC Jones.

Two guys at my poker table were just blown away that they could get Warriors +25.5 a few minutes ago and they fired right then and there. I could only smile and laugh inside.
Of the many, many enjoyable posts in this thread, this one (from mid 2nd quarter) takes the cake.

I hope you helped part those fools from their money too, HRB. It's only polite.

When you lose by 50, there's gonna be like 6 legit reasons why, and they all can be true. It takes a village for a real NBA team (with multiple HOFers still playing at a reasonable level of competence) to lose that badly.
Not just losing by 50. Trailing by more than 40 at halftime is the real trick.

Right. Any team can just stop giving a fuck in the 4th quarter. That's easy. It takes a real veteran team with championship-caliber hearts to cease all fucks-giving 6 minutes into the game and just pack it in right away.

I'm sure it's happened, but I can not remember an instance of a team's star players not playing a single minute of the second half because they were getting blown out so badly at halftime.

Gonna guess you had some fun
Definitely. My daughter and I both had big smiles for most of the afternoon. The 44 point lead after the 2nd quarter was the biggest halftime lead in franchise history. This team is special and so much fun to root for.

The chef's kiss of yesterday's game would've been Tatum giving the 'night, night' gesture to Curry and the Warriors... at the end of the first half.
