They look like they are swimming upstream and just not quite comfortable. Game not coming as easy since the start of the year. It's not just this game though. Something's broken with this team. They've been very mediocre for a while now.

100%. Brogdon is vital. He can get his own bucket and not everything he does is dependent upon the Jays.I think you saw tonight how much Brogdon means to this team. Him missing the last few was huge, and if they have him last night, they probably roll. Then they come back tonight without Horford or Tatum, get destroyed on the defensive glass down the stretch as a result of tired legs, etc.
They got out to a lead tonight because they were running the ball up and down the court like maniacs, which takes Cleveland, a team that doesn't like pace, out of their game. They just couldn't sustain it, and if not for a joke of a call giving Mitchell 2 free throws, and 2 missed by Grant to win, the C's walk away with a win, and nobody says a word about their softness.
I'm not gonna go down the road of calling them soft, but they've now had two key players(Jaylen and Grant) lose games at the free throw line because they got shit-talked and psyched out by the other team. That's kinda soft. They might not be Soft™ but they dabble around the edges of being soft. The opposition seems to relish clowning on them.This. They were nails tonight given the circumstances. On the road. Against a very good team. The soft shit is embarrassing.
There’s physical toughness and mental toughness. Draymond psyched this team out pretty good in the finals. Grant peed down his leg in a big spot tonight. It’s just disheartening to see.I'm not gonna go down the road of calling them soft, but they've now had two key players(Jaylen and Grant) lose games at the free throw line because they got shit-talked and psyched out by the other team. I still like this team at full strength* against anyone in the East in a seven game series. It won't be easy but they are just deeper than other teams if TL is 80% or better. The West teams concern me more from a match-up standpoint. We need you on that wall. Me, I'm worried.
2 - 0 under Stoudemire. Just sayingLame.
Get rest, get roleplayers like Tatum, Horford and Williams back and see if they can make the play-in after they hire another interim coach!
Cut Joe some slack. He was gassed out there.Grant had a really good first half 4-4 from 3 then played 6 minutes in the 2nd half + OT
Did Hauser even play in the 2nd half?
Rookie HC pressing on the 2nd night of a back-to-back
What's his solution? Try harder?Joe is pissed.

Joe Mazzulla said the Celtics haven’t learned the importance of late game defensive rebounding. Said that pisses him off. Believes they’ve blown a number of games that way.
just start playing guys 48mpgWhat's his solution? Try harder?
I don't disagree that the C's blew it, but Perk argues that their poor shot selection reflects their lack of respect for Mazzulla. They respected the hell out of Ime, but they took plenty of bad shots last season, too.Perk says the Celtics blew it with selfish play. Implied the players don't respect the coach.

How about rest the starters when they are up by a bunch? The last few games they have been up by a lot and the starting five are still in there--no reason for that and tempting injuryThey look like they are swimming upstream and just not quite comfortable. Game not coming as easy since the start of the year.
yes because they are all out at the 3 point line!Joe is pissed.

Other than the fact that the zebras potentially (if the FTs weren't missed) bailed the Celts out down the other end (not the greatest call either), I have to agree with you. Game should have been ovah. There's more contact allowed in your average girls high school game compared to that final play.I know it gets overlooked now . But the 2 free throws the cavs got to tie the game at the end of regulation were laughable. A complete joke.
That's the other thing I'd put in the "Game Should Have Been Over" category. All the misses the Cavs made in Q4 should have resulted in a 7-10 point win.Joe is pissed.

Two for one is definitely an important factor in a 1 point game either way with that amount of time on the clock. I'm not sure a Marcus 3 is the shot you want to take, however. This was the stretch that pissed me off:

Smart couldn't have launched that one up any faster than he did. With his track record of clanging up jumpers at the end of ballgames, no reason for it; another 12 seconds left of the shot clock. I don't by the 2 for 1 argument at this point in the game, either.
Agreed, I'm not sure how the two are connected exactly. But it's interesting that Perk is willing to put it out there that the players might not be happy with the current coach.I don't disagree that the C's blew it, but Perk argues that their poor shot selection reflects their lack of respect for Mazzulla. At the end, does it look like Donovan is saying, "tell him I'm sorry, tell him I'm sorry"? Those guys are all friends, and it looked a little like Jaylen was playfully arguing that Donovan got bailed out by the refs at the end and if it weren't for that, Grant wouldn't be in that spot to choke. Marcus could have said anything, tho - looked a little like, "we're hitting the X Spot after the game, send me a text."What did Smart say to Mitchell right here?

Would also be nice to have the full complement of players available for a few games.. Timelord, Jaylen, Brogdon, Al and JT were out for all three or at least one of those games... all while Smart is also trying to get back into game shape/meshing with the roster again. An Al 3 and 2 FT's from Grant and the narrative from the last 2 days is totally different.
This was awesome...until it wasn't.One thing I want to see more than a win is a good game for Grant Williams. He should get plenty of opportunity tonight.
