If you wanted to do a SSS takeaway from the last two games, its that beyond Jokic's brilliance, the Nuggets size overall is a problem for Boston.

Both KP and Horford were outmuscled by Gordon and Watson was a problem for them too. Denver wants Tillman minutes - for as good as he is on D and passing-wise - because the Cs lose ground on the offensive end. They can (must)clean up the back cuts but not really sure how to deal with the length/athletic mismatches Denver has for them.

The Nuggets are a problem like Boston in that if you take away something they have a lot of other very good options.

They are also very closely matched.
Denver did not have a three point game going last night however they got what they wanted from inside the arc and were fantastic at 77% from two.

I am curious about how you think the Celtics should counter the Nuggets size. Do they need to keep two bigs on the floor more frequently? Play more zone? Go small and try to push pace? Something else?

I like the way these two teams match up and I would love to see them play a seven game series from a strategy perspective however the stress from late night close games would probably age me in dog years.

I am noodling on what I think they can do but its a puzzle because every potential counter has a cost.

I feel like they are going to use the Jrue gambit if they meet again and if you watched how they guard Murray, they had that nailed last night. The Cs were effectively bothering his dribble when he got the ball and they made him give it up or forced him into a tough shot most of the time.

The problem then is that Joker either then bullies the defense into collapsing, which blows up rotations so he can find a cutting Gordon or Watson, kick it out to the shooters or take it himself which is almost always great offense.

The good news is that one-two score games suggest any fix can give the Cs an advantage.

Its also important to remember that they shot terribly overall and had good looks.

it might be old school but only two ways i think they can counter their size--match it with our bigs every chance they get--make them feel pain underneath and take advantage of the occasional mismatch and make them run and play D to wear them out---their team is not really that deep--get oen or tow of them in foul trouble and they are a different team

Yeah like you said before, if Boston takes away one thing the Nuggets have other very good options. Making Jokic work including running on him and pushing him around on defense seems like a good idea but probably easier said than done.

I think this makes sense but what was particularly frustrating last night was that Denver was beating the Celtics when Jokic was on the bench. My view of the Nuggets is probably too Jokic centric. He is a beast however they have a number of other very good players as well.

Need @reggiecleveland to chime in but Murray seems like a nice mild-mannered Canadian boy to me who just happened to be stone cold with a basketball in his hands. I like him.
I have had no direct contact with him, even as a kid. But, stories of his work ethic are kegend. His dad was almost a crazy task master but Murray embraced it. Shoveled snow off out door courts to workout, etc
In Toronto hoops he was a late bloomer, people included him on elite teams for his court sense, toughness as Jr high kid. One of those kids that coaches pray will grow. Apparently when he first shot up over 6 feet his club coach predicted nba to guffaws of others. By his Sr year nobody was laughing

I felt like the Cs were pretty physical with Jokic but he seemed unfazed. He bullied everyone no matter who the Cs tried on him. He is a cheat code.

That said the other thing that occurs to me is how these games are officiated. They let them play last night which I feel favors Denver. With a different whistle and the Cs might benefit but they will likely get similar officiating if they meet in the finals. So they gotta plan for that and play accordingly.

These games were so close. If the FTs and 3PM are a bit more towards season averages... But there's also a reason they weren't (at least threes).

Agreed. Maybe Joe is keeping the Jrue gambit in his back pocket (why show it for a regular season game?)

Attached some video evidence of Jrue guarding BIGs
