I bought the Samsung specific back. I worried too much shoot the cheap Chinese induction kits and reading about to many over heating problems. It does make the phone slightly thicker though, so a right fitting case may no longer fit.

Here's an odd issue I have been dealing with. I don't use the Facebook app instead I use the mobile version. Lately whenever I type in Facebook the keyboard randomly back spaces every few letters making typing very frustrating. When it back spaces it doesn't erase the previous letter but instead inserts it before the last letter jumbling up every word. Any idea why this might be happening. It only happens when I type in Facebook mobile?

I have a note 3 for what it's worth.

I use the stock android keyboard. I have only ever experienced it with Facebook mobile. I guess I could do the Facebook app but don't use it often enough to make me want the app...plus that whole messenger crap

So, my iPhone 4s is on its last leg. Thinking I want to give Android a shot. I have a MacBook Pro I do all my stuff on and I'm kinda fearful of making the jump. I'm narrowing it down to the Galaxy Note 4 or the Nexus 6 and I'll be heading to a Verizon store tomorrow since my contract is up with AT&T as well. Anyone have either of these phones that can weigh in a bit?

About a week in with the Nexus 6 and I love the phone. No complaints.

I'm really digging the extra screen real estate and the size hasn't been prohibitive at all.

I finally got it yesterday, set it up late last night.  If it makes any sense, it LOOKS bigger than it feels.  Surprisingly still fits in my car dock if I expand it to the widest setting.  Fits in front pocket, where I always keep my phones (and I have a case on it as well).

Haven't played with it too much yet, but the screen is ridiculously sharp.

I'll be interested to hear what you have to say about the battery.

I have not yet had one issue with the battery and my true test was yesterday back in the office where I get zero cell service which usually drains my battery. I left work yesterday with 70% battery, used it all evening before bed and was still around 40%.

I have not yet seen a low battery warning in the week that I've had it. And that is with 4 days off over the weekend and a lot of sitting around playing on my phone.

Weekends are the only times I run into trouble since I charge it all night while I sleep and all day on a Qi pad while at work.  But I'm interested to see as well.

One thing I did do last night that will be huge for me is connect using the Microsoft Remote Desktop app.  Beautiful.

One Lollipop feature that annoys me...while I love the improvement in the look of the 'Recently used' cards, I wish I could limit how many it shows.  Especially since it keeps them upon reboot...I hate having to swipe away old programs/tabs every couple of days.

it is a ProClips, and I've had it for years; first got it for the Galaxy Nexus.  It obviously adjusts based on size, and it is just big enough to hold the N6 with the case (which doesn't add too much width to it)

I always mount an angled mount to the right of the stereo on the dash; on ProClips site look up dashboard angled mount.

The updates to the core Google apps are stunning. All of the apps are easier to use, work together, and pretty to look at. For me, it's the most under hyped tech development of the year.

Interested to hear any thoughts on this promotion by Sprint. It begins Friday.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/columnist/baig/2014/12/02/sprint-halves-price-ofatt-verizon/19777945/

Under the plan, Sprint will provide unlimited talk and text to anywhere in the U.S. network, while matching the data allowance for half the price that AT&T and Verizon customers are currently paying.

As an added incentive, activation fees are waived, and Sprint will pay any early termination fees or installment billing obligations for switchers, up to $350 per line. Those people will be paid with repaid Visa cards. The half-price deal goes for the life of the plan, but the promotion itself is temporary, with Sprint not specifying how long it will last.

Sprint says the half-off rate will be based on the monthly voice, text and data rate plan charge for all lines on the customer's Verizon or AT&T bill. So, a Verizon customer paying $140 per month for four lines of service to share can get four lines of service from Sprint for $70 per month. You will have to swap out your old phone for a new device.

Sounds desperate, but tempting.
Can I assume the unlimited data gets throttled at some point?
Sprint cuts your bill in half and your service by 90%. They are beyond shitty. I had no idea how shitty Sprint was until I switched to ATT.

How long ago did you switch? I'm on the Sprint network through an MVNO, and while there are some hiccups here and there, I've noticed a marked improvement in their coverage in the past year or so.

Sprint sent out a new promotion to long-term customers - offering a $5 per month lease for either an iPhone 5 or S5.

I'm likely jumping to ATT and getting a Nexus 6 or some other phablet early next year.

Sprint service has always been good in the Atlanta area - when I've traveled to other places, it's somethimes abysmal.

They eliminated the company discount a while back. That still pisses me off. I thought their unlimited data was a good deal, but I never realized I don't use much data, so it's not that important - I can save by switching - I can get a 20% corp discount on a plan from ATT.

I'm on a Nexus 5. Compared to Kitkat, I find Chrome crashes much more, the phone now occasionally locks out data or GPS until I reboot, and Lollipop is not noticably faster or better with battery.

Plus the new design wastes space like crazy. I want to see more emails on a single screen, not fewer because half the page is blank vertical space.

The maps app is better but also slower.
The camera is better.

Also, get off my lawn.

Has anyone had any recent successes with an early upgrade through verizon?  I have an S4 whose battery is draining at an alarming rate.  Not eligible for 5 more months.

They will let you "upgrade" early if you agree to do their Edge program.

It's what I did after the last update gave me S4 a ton of issues that a replacement didn't fix.

If you have issues with battery drain, with multiple batteries, then you probably would benefit from wiping the phone to factory and starting fresh.

Most likely there are apps running in the background that are causing the battery drain. You can also use something like BetterBatteryStats to work out which apps are causing it.

Getting a new phone because of battery issues is roughly equivalent to getting a new car because the windshield wipers aren't working very well. It's a very fixable problem.

It's a little more serious than that. :)

I'd say more akin engine underperformance. It is likely something simple & cheap like wrong gas or bad spark plug, but is occasionally complex and expensive like a cracked cylinder.

I had a phone (GS2) that despite all efforts including multiple batteries started draining super fast after a new ROM. Eventually, it stopped working altogether (wouldn't receive charge, wouldn't turn on). Luckily, that was the week after I got my GS4. Leading cause of something like that is more electronic - something burned out in the device. It happens, though not the midst likely culprit.

I can sympathize with that.  My first two Android phones had glaring hardware issues that no amount of wiping would remove the shit from:

Galaxy S (original) had the non-working GPS hardware, that would take minutes to lock on if it ever did.

Which led me to prematurely jump onto an HTC One X that had a rapid battery drain issue that was never quite acknowledged.  But whatever I wiped it or flashed it to, some days it would heat up like a coal in a fire and burn through the battery in a few minutes.

So there can be problems, but if it develops over time then doing a factory reset and reinstalling apps selectively isn't a bad thing to try.

Click on the contact you want to delete. Hit the pen (edit contact), then menu, and select delete.

There doesn't seem to be a quicker way, or a way to do a multiple contact delete.
If they are Google contacts you can delete them from your contacts on your PC and they should disappear on your phone.

So I really need a new phone.

I'm in the UK so the options are a bit less, the Verizon turbo thingy doesn't seem to have made it over here at all, which sucks as I'd do that. Also I may be back in the US in a year or two.

I'm currently left looking at the normal crew. I have an old messed up (thanks Verizon) Samsung g4 I brought with me from the US but I've had nothing but issues on the 4G side with it.

The Nexus 6 just released and I need to try this as i know it's big, and I'm unsure I want a phablet

Other options reading a lot of good things about the LG G3 (and it's cheaper which helps if I have to upgrade if I move back to Cali sooner than expected). This is also interesting as it's big screen wihtout a true phablet size.
Sony Z3 gets a lot of good press here as does the HTC one M8 (but I had such horrible HTC experiences with the thunderbolt I'm reluctant)

I don't think I can wait for the 3-6 months it will be for the Galaxy 6 or the next motorola etc. Unless there's something due any day (which I doubt)

Any thoughts/ recommendations/ avoids?

I bought the LG G3 this summer and besides getting an update from Gingerbread that my old phone was locked into, the main selling points for me were the replaceable battery and the ability to add an SD card.

How have you found it and what did you have before, if you don't mind me asking?

If you're going to have Verizon when you come back to the States London, make sure anything you buy over there has CDMA radios in it if you want to use it when you return.  Verizon and Sprint here in the States use CDMA for voice (for the time being at least) whereas the vast majority of the rest of the world (and ATT and T-Mo) use GSM for voice.

I had a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G and as I mentioned it only ran Android 2.3.x. I'm really not a connoisseur of phones so I'm probably not the best person to ask but the LG G3 is miles ahead of what I had. I make very few calls so the T-Mobile plan I got through Wal-Mart--100 minutes of voice, unlimited text and internet (first 5GB at 4G LTE) for $30 per month--is great. The larger size makes it easier for me to enter text. The camera is far superior to the one the Exhibit had.

If you have specific questions, I'll try to answer them but I really don't have much to compare the phone against from personal usage.

Charlieoscar's mention of the t-mobile Walmart plan got me to look into my own... And can somebody tell me what I'm missing??

Right now through t-mobile, I pay $60/month for unlimited talk, text and data (only 3gb high speed data). Walmart has a plan for only $30 that's unlimited text and data (with 5gb high speed, to boot) with 100 minutes talk. And their next plan up, for $40, is unlimited talk and text... but only 500mb of data. Is talking on a phone really that costly? Am I a sucker for paying t-mobile double what that first plan from Walmart costs?

Also, because I can't seem to find any fine print on Walmart's website, how much does it cost to go over on minutes? I generally average about 250 minutes/month and want to know if it's worth it for me to switch to Walmart's plan. I figure at 150 minutes over every month, even at $0.20/min I'd be breaking even.

So can anyone help me see the light? I feel like I'm missing something that's obvious to most other people!

Edit: formatting.

Second edit: just noticed their website doesn't have the Google Nexus 5 as compatible, so this may all be a moot point for me anyhow...

I have that T-mobile Walmart plan, since 2012, I love it. It's a prepaid plan, so you can't really go over on minutes. If you run out of minutes you have to refill your account earlier. I've never gone over minutes but for a few months I didn't have internet at home and was hitting that 5gb limit before 30 days were up, so I had to refill the account earlier. You add whatever amount you want to the account, and it will deduct that until your regular charge time, and whatever is left can go toward the next month account.  So say you run out of minutes and add $10. If you only use $5 in minutes, the other $5 can go toward the next month's charge.

Just confirmed that it's $0.10/minute if you go over 100

I also just got the LG G3, coming from a HTC One X (M7) and the difference is stark.  I've been an Android guy since the beginning and had many phones with many operating systems from Touchwiz to CyanogenMod to AOSP to stock Android and I'm really impressed with the G3.  It's the most responsive phone I've had by a long shot.  I bought extra batteries but I've yet to need them as I get almost 2 full days out of a charge and I'm a pretty heavy user.  The screen is excellent and the LG flavor of Android, while still different than the stock experience, is the least intrusive of any of the vendor specific flavors I've used.  There are still annoyances of course, but they are nothing compared to Touchwiz's heavy handed implementation.  All in all I'm really happy with the phone.

Thanks that's very helpful.

I'm going to look at the nexus 6 in store I need to feel how big it is in my hand, but given the cost saving and the positive feedback on the LG it seems a really possible option.

Late to respond, but I still have a corp discount with Sprint.  They haven't said anything about getting rid of it.  I have unlimited data too, and while I agree that there's really no need for it, my plan is still cheaper than a plan on Verizon or ATT with a decent amount of data.  And the places I've been lately other than NYC- NJ, CT, DC- have had good coverage.  But Sprint's always a crapshoot.

I have an unrelated question.  I keep getting a notification for another software update.  I've read that it has caused data issues for some people so I don't want to install it.  But my phone won't let me decline it so the notification is there constantly and occasionally pops up reminding me to install it.  Is there a way to permanently opt out of an update?
