Now that's how you finish, great backhanded snipe by HALL. That's how it is done Jake.

Obviously you don’t want to blow up the cap but they are in good shape cap-wise, no? Particularly if Rask hangs them up.

Retaining Hall is a no-brainer for me and Sweeney would be nuts not to open the vault after falling ass-backwards into this potentially job-saving deal. Lock in the scoring and your strong top-6 so you can slowly work in some cheap young guys like Studnicka without needing them to produce a ton right away.

How else could they better spend up to the cap, anyway?

Gamethread spitballing, but if they can get some of the major UFAs back on the following AAVs, looking like a hell of a roster:

Hall: $7m
Krejci: $7m (if he's amenable to a 35+ bonus-laden deal for lower base AAV, even better)
Rask: $7m

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastrnak
Hall - Krejci - Smith
DeBrusk - Coyle - Ritchie ($2.1, if not selected by SEA)
Frederic ($1.2) - Lazar - Wagner
Kuhlman / Studnicka

Grzelcyk - McAvoy
Lauzon - Carlo ($3.7)
Zboril - Clifton
Vaakanainen

Rask
Swayman

$76.724m AAV for that roster, not including Moore's likely $2.75m AAV on LTIR.

Assumed UFAs gone: Halak, Reilly, Kuraly, Miller, Kampfer, Tinordi, Blidh
Assumed RFAs gone: Kase (non-tender or sub-QO retention, arb-eligible), Hughes, Booth
Assumed gone to Seattle: one of Clifton/Zboril/Lauzon in all likelihood; I think Zboril is the guy they'd miss least, and they have Ahcan to bump up the depth chart.

Phenomenal goal by Hall! Skating through a couple of Islanders, he looked like a ringer playing one league down.

Shouldn’t they keep Booth to expose as a goalie? Otherwise they’d have to sign Tuukka pre-draft and expose him and I’m guessing he’ll negotiate an NMC because he doesn’t want to play anywhere else.

But where is Eichel?!

Hall is +15 in just 16 games in Boston (he's still -6 for season). His highest ever was +14 in his MVP season.

Ah right you are - QO deadline day is 6/29 so they'll need to QO him, small price to pay though

That’s a solid squad. Hopefully they can have gentlemen’s agreements with the UFAs and sign them right after the expansion draft. If I had my druthers I’d like to scrape up a few million to sign Reilly (or some other decent D who can get shots through to the net, retrieve the puck and initiate the offense, and make accurate stretch passes) so the top two pairs can smoothly get the puck out of the D zone.

I’m hoping DeBrusk finds his on switch in the playoffs and earns a 3rd line spot.

Re-signing Taylor Hall and having a legitimate second line would be fantastic.

Is Krejci really getting $7M AAV? That seems preposterously high.

Also, TAYLOR MF HALL!! Someone needs to light Wilson TF up tonight, or Saturday. If possible, both--I don't care if he's not playing on Saturday.

I expect he'd get around that, maybe a bit less, and/or that he'd take a lower base AAV 35+ contract with easily achievable bonuses to not impact next year's cap as much.

I should also say - I wouldn't be mad if the team decided to move on. Very little chance of getting value on anything that isn't a bonus-laden 35+ deal for Krejci.
