This would be a better troll if it made more sense, but that's ok.

Your opinion of me is, once again, duly noted.
You were just in the way of a mudpie ... i barely looked at the post i was quoting, never mind knew who posted it

But is Martin or Schreiber less risky, just because Jansen blew the save last night? That seems hard to prove.

It does seem odd that Cora let Sale go 8 and throw 110 pitches….yet turn the 9th to the guy who pitched yesterday when Martin and Schreiber didn’t.
Of course it's hard to prove. But my point isn't really that he blew the save last night. It's how he pitched.

Yes, I’m just asking if how a guy pitches on Friday predicts anything about how he will pitch on Saturday. He has a long career of being excellent on 0 days rest.

It seems quite likely, given the lack of control, that he’s still hurt. But Bushy and the training staff should know that, right?

Just braindead managing with Jensen. He’s throwing 6 MPH slower than normal, something ain’t right dude what are you doing?

Also, Kike at short has to be done. Use him as a backup outfielder or just get him off the roster.

It was a joke.
My jokes aren't working today.
It's not so much that as it is that nothing is funny right now.

One of my best friends is a huge Cardinals fan. I'm taking these past two days as some sort of karmic retribution for 2004 and 2013, which makes these two losses, as bitter as they have been, seem small in comparison.

I don't think Jansen was the right choice for the 9th due to all of what has been discussed and if it were my choice i would have used either Martin or Schrieber. I also think the pitch violation stuff should not be involved in deciding games so that is either on Jansen or MLB depending on your point of view. But, i really think it was infield defense that truly cost this game. Isn’t Kike kind of prone to iffy throws? Also isn’t JT a third baseman playing 1st base? I would have liked to at least have seen Casas at first for the 9th. I know he is not a gold glover but he is at least a true first baseman and might have had a better chance at catching that poor throw.

Yes, he has a long career being excellent on zero days rest. What I don’t know, and I’m not going to dive into, is how excellent he has been on zero days rest after being absolutely terrible in the first game.

It was close to working - it's just too early to say if I'm dumb & wrong or dumb & right lol

I was just going to let it go, but I feel like you do this in my direction a lot, & I'm not really sure why. But it's all good & I won't take it personally.

I wasn't gaga over Kenley. I like the guy but watched him pitch last year and he was either good, or not so good. IOW, not consistent. Koji was consistent. I do wonder though if Jansen's back is still bothering him and he is trying to play through it.

Jansen was pretty understanding about it post-game interviews. He got played by the hitters.

Better not let it happen again.

If the 22-18 last place Red Sox were in the other five divisions:

AL Central: Tied for 1st place
AL West: 2nd place
NL East: 2nd place
NL Central: 2nd place
NL West: 2nd place

Jansen admitted in the postgame PC that the Cardinal batters tricked him into those quick-pitch violations by feigning readiness while keeping one foot out of the box.

If that’s the case that asshole Manfred needs to step in immediately and change the rule so that no one can use the rule to gain a competitive advantage. The rule was meant to pick up the pace of play. Nothing more, nothing less. It shouldn’t be a factor in the outcome of a game!

You should be allowed to come to the set anytime you want within the pitch clock time limit. You can’t PITCH until the batter is ready, but once he’s ready, you should be able to throw. If that means you are in the set position for five seconds, so be it.

I didn’t watch today because I usually step away for a day or two after infuriating losses and last night fit the bill. Looks like I would’ve been in a position to break something if I watched today. Impression I’m getting is that the cardinals gamed the rules to illicit clock violations and I’m just so glad that’s a thing now.

It’ll probably be dealt with non-foul/foul calls in the last two minutes of basketball games — we know we screwed up, sorry!

This. I mean what are you supposed to do, bring a deck of cards and play solitaire until the 8 second mark hits? The way the rule is set, it lets batters completely dictate the routine of the pitcher. I could see if the pitcher was actually beginning to pitch, but getting penalized for just standing there and being ready is insane. This is why people are afraid of making drastic changes to the game. You end up with this.

It's the big leagues, teams have been working the rules to find a competitive advantage since forever. However the rule is written, there's bound to be some smart guy who's gonna find a way to push the envelope. Sometimes they go too far [cough] trashcan.
Now that the Card's little gambit has gained national attention, I have no doubt that the geniuses at MLB will step in and fix the rule.

I don't necessarily expect Cora to predict how any reliever will pitch before the fact, but there's basic shit that can give important clues. Did the guy just have a monumentally emotional experience a couple of days ago? And then suck ass immediately following? (Yes, and yes).
But once you see in real time that the guy is just not sharp, that his velocity is down and his command is for shit, then don't stick with him past the 3 batter minimum.
That's just bad managing.

Going to hold you in the basement in the gimp outfit.
This is what we all need after 2 nut punch losses.

How could he react at that point? Kenley has to face 3 batters
Have someone warming and ready to pull as soon as eligible.

No I don't want Cora dumped or anything, and I'm fine with Jansen starting the 9th today, but as soon as he looked hte same as lsst night Martin needed to be warming immediately. This felt like an important game, looking like maybe a legitimate team and a soft spot on the schedule with this homestand and you've started 0-2.

This is so important to you that you needed to post it in two different places? I'd rather they not make bad baseball decisions and try to win today's game instead.
I shouldn't have posted it in the other thread and tried to edit the post to be deleted before it was replied to. And you are correct.
