I started standing during the last TV timeout.

2-0 Bruins whilst standing. I know what I need to do.
I had our new puppy on my right for OT of game 1. I put him on my left for this one. That’s where he’s staying now.

We’re trying to find a Marchand jersey for him as we speak. One of our neighbors referred to him as a “rat terrier” right after we were talking about the Bruins game tonight. It was kind of an omen that Marchand would get it.

Felger basically said Marchand has been ass, he thinks Cassidy would agree, and he needed that goal to redeem himself.

I went back to NESN.

I went back to NESN.
And he got it.

So if that thing that happened didn't happen then something else would be something else. Sort of like if Boston radio listeners didn't eat lead paint, Felger would have no audience.

I love Bruce shutting down the question with “Marchy’s gonna stick up for himself sometimes.”

Got to love Boston sports media personalities shitting on a team or player after a win.
There's zero reason that any sports 'personality' like Felger should have a job for a year on local radio let alone decades. He's had zero interesting things to say for his entire career... he took the Shaugnessy role and ran with it.

edit: Pitino didn't get much right, but the sports media in Boston are some of the most miserable people covering sports ever... especially given the last twenty years of almost nonstop championships.

Just watching the Hall celebrations on his goal, and the one with Marchand... Hope he is enjoying being here and he wants to stay bad enough to help out a bit on a re-signing..

Between here and everywhere.
Hand up. I went to bed with about 10 minutes left in the 3rd.

Sunday night I had an 11pm Beer League game. Tonight after work I have to drive to New Jersey (gross) for a week of Army training. The Bruins looked lifeless and I couldn't keep my eyes open.

You're welcome.

Hall sums up Marchand:

Sometimes you have to see a guy do it for you to know that it can be done,” Hall said. “It’s not all about goal scoring or scoring points. When he goes in on a forecheck 1 on 2 and comes out with the puck or it seems like the D-man has him, he spins off quickly and settles the play down for us and we’re able to have an O-zone shift, those are huge plays.

Would they not have called the three cross checks on the Taylor Hall goal if it hadn’t been scored? Two by Wilson coming in late to deck Krejci and Hall in succession

Love that Wilson was on the ice for the tying goal and then had the best look in the house at the winner.

Also love that Dowd had a great look at the winner and I loved watching him deflate, especially after he did that silly little celly when the Caps went ahead in the third.

The cool part of the Hall goal is if you have the volume up you can hear him (or someone) yell "YES!" half a second before the ref realizes the puck is in the net.

I thought the irony of the Hall goal was that whoever it was who wiped out McAvoy in the crease, was the one who allowed Hall the access to the puck while wiping out the rest of his own defense.
If you look, Sheary really didn't wipe McAvoy out, but dove after him.

yeah... and his diving made Sheary have the most contact and responsibility for driving his own goalie into the net...

The funny thing is how long the puck was actually in the net... Hall knocks it in much earlier in the sequence than I thought....Hall got it on his very first swipe at it.

I still think it was worth a challenge by Laviolette. McAvoy initiated the contact with Anderson that shoved Anderson out of position. From the Bruins standpoint, Anderson then had time to reset but Sheary came in and obstructed his own goalie. I have no idea how the league would've ruled there given the massive inconsistencies coming out of the war room. The Bruins caught a bit of a break by having the play ruled a goal on the ice. If they waived it, we'd be looking at a challenge (you have to challenge a potential tying goal that late) and if unsuccessful, being down 3-2 and shorthanded for 2minutes with 2:49 left in the game,

I just think it was a missed opportunity by Laviolette. The reward far outweighed the risk of having to kill a penalty. If they win the challenge it's 3-2 with 2:49 left and they're like 90% to win the game. If they lose it's 3-3 and shorthanded (with the draw at center ice) and are probably 40-45%. Leaving it as is put them in a coin flip. The slight drop off between being shorthanded and tied is worth the huge gain in win probability if they win the challenge, IMO. Plus they are up 1-0 in the series and going for the stranglehold. I'd want Butch rolling the dice there if the roles were reversed.

In the simulacrum
I'm really surprised by the final Corsi #s. I would love to know what the numbers were like halfway through the second.

I'm glad the Bruins won and I guess I did not really expect to see the Bruins just waltz out of DC with a 2-0 lead, but still, count me as a little surprised by how easily Washington has been able to keep pace with the Bruins and largely dominate the boards while also controlling game flow as the Bruins flub passes through the neutral zone and in the break out. Hopefully the cobwebs are gone.

Also, it sort of looks to me like the Caps messed up or got lazy on their change and gave up numbers in the defensive zone for a long time (like 6 seconds) before Marchand scored.

Didn't help that Ovechkin was down at the other blue line looking for a breakaway pass. He never entered the defensive zone.
