He was lollygagging. You know what that makes him?
Fatigue mistake. Schultz played almost 30 minutes. He’s not a 30 minute a night defenseman, and Smitty is a high motor guy and busted his ass as usual to take advantage of a mistake.

Whoever said that McAvoy was exhausted seems right. I'm sure a lot of players are though. Wonder how Samsonov is feeling given he's just got back on the ice.
I had the same thought about 3 minutes before the goal. Would love an honest answer to a question about how much mental fatigue played into that.

I'll also admit that I was starting to have evil "they've dominated OT and are going to lose on a fluke goal" thoughts. Shudder.

They controlled the play in period 1.

But in the OTs I just think the Bruins are simply faster and are carrying around less weight than Washington. Washington is going to get gassed faster in any game the Bruins are not punished physically. Washington has to run the Blues playbook. Harder to pull off when everyone is sucking air in OT.
I wonder if the bigger, stronger team is getting a wee bit tired as these games go on.
Makes sense. Would like to see the Bruins get out ahead next game and make the Caps chase it a bit. A two goal lead in this series fees impossible but oh what a luxury it would be.

For sure. I was just making a joke at the Capitals expense. Because I don’t care for them.

only 20:04 for Chara, least of the d-men by 2:13. Only 5 forwards had less time. They're sheltering him big time.
Only 10:33 for Carr too didn't help them out much.

Avoided this thread as I trailed on the dvr...playoff hockey is the best. Butt clenched the entire game, a series that could easily be 3-0 in either direction...so much agonizing fun

I wouldn't blame him for the miscommunication (or blame fatigue) necessarily. If fatigue played a role, maybe it was the less than sharp way he got back (or failed to get back) into goalie/alert mode. I had noticed earlier in the period there was a play where he had gone down to make a save, and as the Caps D transitioned into offense the camera showed him behind the play very slowly getting back up. That's when I started to wonder if he was spent. I don't play goalie, I don't know how heavy those pads are - or if they absorb water weight during the game the way the old ones did. Either way, 4+ periods of hockey...

Even if it’s a miss-play behind the net, doesn’t he have to protect the far post since the forward is more likely to carry it around the net than cut back?

For it to end it that way in double OT is even more of a nut punch for the next game... if we could play the next game like we played these two OT's could go a long way to completely demoralizing the Caps

Great teammate you got there. Kid stops 40 shots after not playing for a while and he’s on him for an obvious fatigue-driven mistake.

I was so pissed on the Pasta tackle, I was still yelling at the TV when the goal happened. Justice. Eat shit Caps.

Samsonov was really good in his first playoff game, so I hope that the game winner shakes his confidence.

It’s the playoffs. You can’t be making dumb mistakes and expect a pat on the back for it.
No pat needed. But, you know, be the captain? Don’t rip the kid to shreds publicly. Have a modicum of respect for yourself and your teammates.

Be the captain can mean several things to the point of being useless given we don’t know the pulse and headspace of the team and players. And I don’t think Ovi needs to work on garnering any respect from anyone, let alone himself.

Is it ideal, probably not. But neither is letting in a shit goal in OT in a pivotal playoff game that was due to a mental mistake. Making those mistakes makes it that much more difficult to win the Cup. And Ovi more than makes up for his defensive lapses by being the best goal scorer of the last 30 years. He’s not a complete player but he doesn’t need to be because he’s the greatest goal scorer since goalies learned how to actually play goalie.

I just learned the hard way not to trust Hulu to record the whole game. Went to fucking horse racing right after Marchand tied it. I guess it was better for my weak heart to miss OT. Let's win Friday.

This was a total traveshamockery, and if the refs keep it up, someone is going to get hurt.

I went to bed after the 1st OT.

1.) I was tired.
2.) The game obviously rested in my hands.

You’re welcome.

I've got to say, I am so glad this game started at 6:30*

If only you could run them out there even more.

In contrast, I'd like to see how much time Washington allowed Ovechkin on the ice in the OT. Seemed to me that they were really hesitant to give him big minutes since he still seems to play D like it is an optional part of the job.
The dude was once a -35 in a season he scored 51 goals. That seems impossible to me.

Capitals size advantage becomes a big disadvantage in these long games. They looked gassed and the Bruins looked much fresher and better conditioned. They should come out and try to make it a track meet in game 4 and see what kind of legs the Caps have.
