Game 2 got our minds right. Celtics fans know that Boston is the best team in the NBA. They are on an inexorable march to a Championship. It's breathtaking to watch. The NBA literati doesn't want to acknowledge this. Slowly, though, you can see a gradual, grudging acceptance. The Celtics can't be stopped. People, get ready.

Plus, your openers are just fun.

LFG!!

where I was last at
I try and keep politics out of game threads, but we should remember the sage words of former President and noted hot take pundit, Harry Truman who noted before Game 6 of the Milwaukee series.

The Bucks stop here.

And Harry was right.

He has since opined.

If you can't stand the Heat, you are in very good company, Pat Riley's a dick, LETS GO CELTS.

or words to that effect.

Just like Giannis, the more 3s he takes the better off the C’s are
Agreed for the most part. Somehow Jimmy is a better shooter from three in the postseason over his career than in the regular season (.35 vs .32). Maybe not anything worth noting, but he does appear to have that Primetime Rondo thing where he's able to make more shots by sheer force of will and moxie.

Matchup on him in transition, don't let him walk into any threes, but I'd still play under the picks that involve him with the ball in the half court. If he's willing to settle for that shot, it's kind of on par to Giannis' burping up perimeter jumpers (mostly because it keeps both from racking up team fouls and free throws on top of being a far less successful shot).

Grab ahold of this series from the tip tonight. It's right there waiting for someone to take control of it.

I want to see Smart harass Butler so badly that Jimbo just starts heaving threes. Turn Jimmy Buckets into Jimmy FuckIts.
Karalis said on his podcast after G2 that Butler mentioned post game 1 that Butler's goal is to go 0-0 from 3P.

That seems, well, suboptimal in today's NBA but what do I know?

I think asking for another game 2 is a bit much as the C's probably aren't going to shoot 20/40 from 3, but they'll play solid basketball and win by 6-7. They may lose a quarter but not by any real margin.

This is true with or without TL.

I don’t think we’ll see a fully healthy RWIII until next season; just gotta hope he doesn’t get shut down for good.

Could see him do that stiff-legged “hop away from the pain” move a few times last game after leaping for a block or a board. He’s in pain. Let’s just hope not too much.

Tonight will be the first tight game of the series. Execute down the stretch and get good shots because we know Jimmy can get to the line on the other side.

TL only played 20 min in game 2 (blowout and all) and the Heat seemed to be playing smaller. With White back, I could see a lot of Smart/White/Jaylen/Tatum minutes.

it’ll be a tight rotation again if TL is out, but they seemed to handle it well in game 2. The crowd should give them a boost.

Wasn’t TL out for the big 17-0 run? Or am I thinking of Tatum?
Tatum was out for the whole 17-0 run (sat after getting 2nd foul).

edit: checked play by play--looks like they were *both* out for the entire 17-0 run. wow, didn't remember that.

It is wild that the NBA doesn’t have refs all over Lowry, if he got flagrant 2s for the bullshit he does it would at least get him off the floor, if not change his nature as a player.

The rotation isn’t that tight without Timelord because we have the ability to play small and because Theis is a competent backup. We have real depth issues at the guard/wing slots because we only have 2 bench players for 3.5 positions. Playing down a big we only need to cover 8-12 mpg for Horford at the 5 (which is small enough that Theis can cover without being exposed) and can flex Tatum to the 4 when Grant sits without really missing a beat. We are definitely better with him, but unlike playing down Horford (where Theis really got exposed) or down Smart (where Pritchard gets exposed), playing down Timelord doesn’t really put anyone on our team in the position of being asked to do too much.

Also, while I know opinions vary on this, I think Timelord remains the least valuable and important starter. He has a ton of talent and I could see him being the 3rd, or even 2nd, best player on this team in a few more years, but I don’t think he’s there yet and Horford and Smart are both just so good at doing all the little things that keep the defense locked in and the offense flowing that their value sometimes gets understated.

In summary, Timelord being out really doesn’t worry me that much in terms of our ability to compete/win.

Here
THIS version of Timelord is the 5th best player, but I think the one who showed up every night from January to April was top 3, and arguably top 2.

the earlier reports said he was expected to be out. So maybe that report is actually positive? A determination will be made about his status for tonight's game.

I could be reading it wrong, but we don't know either way yet.

Uhhhhhh that sounds ominous
Same thing he’s been dealing with since returning/getting the bone bruise. Unclear which injury it’s related to at this point, but doesn’t seem like anything’s gotten worse.

I don't like Theis starting because I don't think he can keep up with Adebayo, and I don't want him to get off to a hot start. Right now, he seems to be producing at a lower level than his talent, and I don't want to wake that bear.
