Stunned people want to give up on Jaylen after one bad game.
For a lot of them, it has nothing to do with one bad game, or frankly, his on court play at all.

They just don't want to say it, which would be much easier than having to read between the lines. Worst part is I, a huge Jaylen fan, have no issue with folks who hate him for cozying up to Kyrie and his anti-semitic bs, so it would be easier if they would just come out with it, instead of tossing horrible takes.

The idea that you don't give Jaylen the supermax is so stupid that anyone who says it should not be taken seriously for their basketball knowledge. You give it, you keep him for a year, and if it doesn't work out, that contract is awesomely valuable in trade after next season. Much more so than trying to get pennies on the dollar for his lesser, expiring deal to a team that doesn't know if he will walk at the end of the season.

Oof.

Tatum has one of his worst games in the playoffs, and pointing it out makes people cranky in a gamethread.

It's ok guys. He'll lead us to a top 4 spot in the east again next year. No promises on following through as a top 5 player, though...
Is there a single thread on this board you actually contribute to in a positive way? I have no one on ignore, welcome to the list.

I am shocked they got blown out but Miami played unreal after a rough start on offense. Their defense was on point all night and made the Celtics life hell from the get go. I got to give them most of credit here. Oh well. Would have been a great story but maybe don’t go down 0-3 next time and allow this to happen. The Game 2 loss in particular was brutal. Reminded me a lot of game 4 of the finals last year. I enjoyed the ride very much from game 4-6 but the crash landing was brutal to watch. Feels like they thought they won the series with the game 6 win.

What is your position on Joel Embiid after these playoffs? How about Durant? Giannis? Are they not top 5 guys either because they came up short?
Weird. There's dozens of posts over the last week+ about how the Celtics have an amazing opportunity to cash in on a broken playoff bracket.

Unless I imagine those posts.

My point isn't that top players lose. It's that top players shouldn't dissappear for the 6 most important quarters of the season

Cannot wait for all the petty post season bullshit to leak out of this locker room.
See this is where we part ways as fans. I want the sports without this drama. Perhaps you are correct and there are chemistry issues. But I sincerely hope there aren't any. This team just got beaten by a better team (in the now).

That ankle turn at the jump was devastating.

Brown is not getting traded. It’s ludicrous to suggest. They would never get equal value.
Nor is a max contract equal value. So you run it back one more time and lose him for nothing next year or you see if you can get some complementary assets and lottery tickets for Tatum to work with.

Winning 4 elimination games in a row has never been done in the NBA. The team was just drained by it

Sucks to admit you’re human.

I have no problem with the Celtics. They didn’t “choke” or “come up small”. They played until there was nothing left.

Smart is likely trade bait but you can’t trade brown without a plan. There just isn’t a replacement available at his level.
It's sad to say, but we've entered the "three steps back for one step forward" stage of this situation. To make progress, we have to admit the sad reality of where we are at. Mostly, this team isn't good enough in close games against good teams

Especially with some of the new CBA stuff, carrying two guys like Tatum and Brown that account for 100+ mil and it's super fucking suspect how good brown is. He's a scorer, but against stout defenses he can't handle the ball, is a mediocre passer and gets lost defensively. He's peaked and he's going to decline, because he's got nothing that's a lock. He's not a knockdown shooter. His game is going to age so poorly. And he's been MIA (lol) in big spots, usually in the playoffs.

I don't buy the whole "retain the asset" thing. It's going to get harder to build teams. Get a player or two and the three from Portland if you can..if not, you're going to have to get creative. But doubling down on this is going to so bad.

I keep seeing people say the new CBA is going to make it hard to supermax 2 players. Celtics may be forced to trade Brown this offseason.

That isn’t exactly what you said. If you said Tatum sucked tonight then no one even says anything to you. You shit all over Tatum and got the attention you were seeking.
I shit on a guy that is ALWAYS fishing for calls, fishing for the camera to pick up on his boo boos, and seems to always have an excuse.

I'm fucking over it. I love the dude, I'm drunk and angry, but I'm sick of justifying the fucking no-shows.

They don’t actually need equal value. Tatum is the key cog, the on/off numbers basically suggest you could put any combo of decent players around him and the result would be good. If you can bring back some shooting/passing/defense minus some of JB’s upside I don’t think you lose much from the team as a whole.

This is what I have tried to say but much less clearly. I don’t think in todays NBA you can do anything but give Brown the super max and see what happens.

That said, I was incredibly disappointed by his performance tonight. He had an opportunity to step up and just seems small for the moment.

Jaylen Brown has been my favorite player for many years. I may be done with him after this. Just an unbelievable, terrible, stupid performance. I can forgive a lot. I can’t really forgive taking shots 5 feet behind the 3P line when you are shooting like absolute crap. It’s time to trade a quarter for two dimes
What did you want him to do, turn the ball over a few more times?

I think we all know that JB is a finisher, a scorer - not an initiator. With JT hurt and Brogdon hurt, it was easy for MIA to play defense snd they just shut down the middle of the court. JB didn't really have an answer for that.

I'm fucking with you. This outcome is within that range for me. I didn't think it was possible. But I also think having Tatum at 60% changed the entire dynamic. Having to rely on Jaylen Brown dribbling into a zone defense was a terrible backup plan.
100% agree about Tatum. Having your best player -- the one guy who you could hope for a 50 piece from -- get hurt in the first 30 seconds is kind of a rusty railroad spike up the ass. (And I know you were fucking with me, don't wory.)

Brown for Simons and #3 is a fucking horrible trade. Anyone that suggests it is not a serious person. Full stop.

Simons is a small SG who can’t defend and is a chucker. Just what every championship team needs right?

Remember when Hayward faked his bone going thru his skin? I’m still mad about that guy quitting on us in game 1.

Do all the damage control you want to try to do now, but you called the man a faker when we all saw him roll his ankle on the first play of the game for him. Why would Tatum decide on the first play of Game 7 in Boston that he would fake an injury?!?

This is so deranged.

You are moving the goalposts and baiting all within like 20 words in the same post.
