It's time to go on the offensive. We know this one will be physical, and we know people will comment on that at SoSH and in the real world. So let's make this a game where we are the aggressor - where we zero in on the weaknesses of the Bucks and take advantage of them. Let's force Giannis to play both ends; let's force Brook Lopez to play in space a bit. Let's limit turnovers and force the Bucks to beat us half-court. Let's take the ball to the hole early and often. And most of all, let's shoot from 3 like we're we're setting a new high score....

We have to leave Milwaukee with a win, so I’m breaking out the must-win cufflinks:

No way JT lays back-to-back eggs. We got within a bucket with him playing like crap, so tonight we make venison. Win.

Will JT get his groove back and out-finesse Matthews, Holliday et al? Will Tony Brothers continue his assholery? Grind out this mofo and make gristle of the venison.

Is there game log of those games? Not saying Tony Brothers doesn't suck but the data is useless without context. Did he officiate any of their playoff games...
  • Last year, when they were terrible?
  • In 2019, when Kyrie tanked them?
  • During the pre-Horford years when they were huge 'dogs anyway?
It's not worth stressing about before the game has even started. This team has already defied the odds to get where they are now given where they were at the end of 2021.

Teams cannot control who officiates these games nor how they are called. They can either adjust and play accordingly or quit and go home.

Nobody is walking through that door and no amount of bellyaching by fans (and likely even the teams themselves, both of whom felt jobbed in the last game) is going to change how these games are officiated. The only people who can help the Celtics are...the Celtics.

Win!

Legit someone needs to take it to Giannis tonight if he’s allowed to run people over again. Put in a scrub to Rambis him. There needs to be a clear message the Celtics will not take that shit. Or give Marcus the rock and bowling ball into him on a drive. Or both. If the NBA wants roller derby, give it to them.

Hold tight. We need an odd-year Beckett playoff-type performance from every Celtic tonight.

If only Sam Hauser hadn't been ruled out with an injury ...
NO!!!

Wait, how? Elbow strain doing an emphatic traveling motion on the bench?

Either way, next man up. That’s you, Theis.

If Jerebko is Swedish Larry Bird, why can’t Theis be German Kevin McHale?

Why not us? Don’t poke the bear. Do your job. Rambis Giannis.

Not to be a debbie downer, but my gut says they lose tonight, win Wednesday, and then lose G6. This season ends up being the season before this team goes supernova, a la the 2014 Warriors, and the next several years result in multiple Finals appearances. Prove me wrong. Start the supernova early.

To counteract this post, I'll point out that I'm normally a bit of a worrier and am good at focusing on all of the reasons something could go wrong. Every once in awhile I get a strangely calm/confident feeling heading into a game. I have that feeling about tonight. This team may not win it all but it doesn't feel like the type of team that loses in the second round either.

The Celtics need this one tonight, since the physical grind of this series will really start to effect the Bucks more than the Celtics now that we'll be going every other day until completion. I mean, this will be hard on Al for us, but Lopez, Portis, Holliday and Hill aren't exactly fresh new NBA Stars.

I hope they get back to really whipping the ball around on offense so the Bucks don't get a chance to grab their shorts while standing next to immobile corner three options on D.

So; move the ball, limit turnovers, reduce transition opportunities, and the Celtics win tonight quite handily.

The Celts are 3-14 in Milwaukee dating back to the regular season of 2017-18 and including playoff tilts. Obviously it's split between the old Bradley Center and new Fiserv Forum, but they've had horrendous success in Milwaukee. Ultimately, the season comes down to not being lactose intolerant in the Dairy State.

Can't see them winning on the road in an elimination game six or Giannis (or the refs /ducks) letting his team drop three straight. That means winning the next two and squaring off at home for game seven imo, an advantage Milwaukee freely gave up in order to duck Brooklyn. But tonight is as close to a must-win as you can get without it actually being one. Really is a legacy game for Tatum. He doesn't need to put up 50+, but he's going to need to dominate his matchups on both ends. And he should. No fucking way Matthew's corpse should punk him like that.

Everything seemed to go poorly in many ways last game, and they had a chance to win, regardless on MIL's home court. I think they get out to a double-digit lead and then hold on for a tight win.

They won't shoot as badly from 3 again. Tatum won't be as bad - can't be as bad.

Win.

Now seeing TimeLord is out. I changed my mind. That could really get the team down and lead to a beating. Hope I'm wrong. Do we still not see Theis?

Celtics have become the league’s biggest tease. That really sucks.

Think they can still win tonight, but I’m more concerned what it means in general for Williams. Doubt he’ll play again this season.

The more adversity, the more this team responds. Let’s fucking go out and give Giannis and Horst real reasons to bitch and moan

TL out could be a blessing in disguise since this isn't a great matchup for him. We'll need him if we make it to the ECF.
starting lineup that's true, but we're really shallow, and nobody on that bench (Theis, Nesmith, etc.) is as good as even bad TL.

IF meniscus related, options are:

-- recurrent meniscus tear
--cartilage injury (less cushioning)
--bone bruise (less cushioning)
--joint effusion (related to one of the 3 above)

IF not meniscus related:

Who knows.... would be better if it's some unrelated tendinitis but kinda doubt it.

Bucks aren't the best matchup for Rob so I think we still have a chance but our front line is awfully thin now.

They can run them out of the building with 5 out but really need to stay out of foul trouble. The team gets very small in this matchup if Theis has to play significant minutes at the 5.

A more crucial battle in the war on Theis we have not seen. I hope he can give some quality minutes before getting his lung collapsed by Giannis on a bull rush to the basket that will be called a blocking foul.

May not be a great matchup for TimeLord (though he filled out the boxscore last game) but those minutes have to be picked up now. Theis seems like a worse matchup (not quite long enough, not quite strong enough). Six minutes and three fouls this series.

It’s going to put a lot of pressure on Grant/Al to stay out of foul trouble.

I’m hoping Ime can use his timeouts to give Grant and Al some strategic breathers, as they are both likely to get a lot of time on the court.

This should lead to a lot of spacing… let’s just hope the shots can fall.
