We talked about this on another thread. Tatum aggressively drives but doesn’t get calls the way that other superstars do for some reason. It’s infuriating. He drew TWO calls tonight attacking the rim.
I think it's because relies on getting calls with his arms and not his body and those are more likely to get missed or result in a turnover. He needs to get the contact with the body first.

I have settled down, and the fact is that GS packed paint and gave Cs wide open 3s that they didn’t hit. And when they tried to force their way into paint, there were TOs because it was packed with defenders. Although it seems counterintuitive with GS, I think that an up pace game is to their benefit,

Well, if you consistently blow by the defender and the reach in comes on the shot, you should get to the line like, well, every superstar of the past 30 years who plays the 2-3 and has that kind of talent. Tatum, quite simply, doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt and it’s pretty infuriating.

I'm just interested to know.. is a player walking towards the hoop (setting what is essentially a moving screen) a legal move or not? Because GS uses that tactic more than any other team I've seen.

I think I was spoiled by the Celtics 4th quarters this series and just expected them to win.

looking back on it, the second chance points killed them. I don’t think it was a choke and te offensive execution wasn’t terrible.

Make/miss league and the Warriors got a superhuman performance from Curry.

I think he gets his courage from Kerr and Draymond. The heart they both showed tonight was something I haven’t seen since Willis Reed.

I mean Kerr BENCHED draymond! Never mind the fact Draymond’s been awful all series…what COJONES by Karen Kerr

Yeah I don't know about that one. Dude was crying like a baby after one of his made hoops where he thought he got fouled and on the replay he barely got touched. I don't trust his reactions or where he ends up on the floor as anything that really matters.

Yeah, I think Rob got beaten on the boards by Wiggins a couple of times in the fourth. He had absolutely no lift at the end.

It's a shame really.. hopefully Kerr doesn't learn from it and plays Draymond all of game 5.. because GS is a much better team with him off the floor right now.

That was in a layup and he thought the mitten fouled him.
I don’t know if Tatum was embellishing because the angle ESPN was showing was terrible. He could have smacked him in the back of the head and we wouldn’t have seen it

Well, maybe you should not use one play to judge a whole game. Just sayin’.

I think on that one Poole pushed him as he was going up. On that play Smart was clearly fouled before Tatum got the rebound though.

Feel like ime in his interviews seems not to remember that there are employees of the team whose job it is to try and ensure that offensive possessions of the team are designed and executed properly. I know it's a players league but I still don't like how he seems to completely avoid any responsibility for his team continuing to melt down in these close and late situations.

They should have given Theis like 5-6 minutes somewhere in there since Grant decided to play the dumbest game of his career tonight and spend the entire game in foul trouble. Might have staved off both Al and TL being cooked.

Except it’s not clear the refs missed anything. They were pretty consistent, and Tatum is the one that has to adapt. When he does, that’s when he’ll get the Paul Pierce treatment; he’ll never get the Lebrun/Butler/Harden treatment as that is not really his game.

Flying under the radar, but Pritchard has been pretty terrible so far this series. Would be great if he could give them 10 good minutes and provide a little instant offense, but he can’t throw it in the ocean and he’s pretty pointless if he isn’t making threes.

Celts were leading 91-88 with 6 minutes left. Ime called a timeout at 3:41 after the lead went to 97-94 for the warriors, another at 1:42 100-94 and another at 47 seconds 102-97.
I think he actually did what he could in a way. C's just missed every shot down the stretch.

Yeah, that’s really been a massive disappointment. I thought this was the perfect series for him too

Smart always complaining about the ball not moving as he's the PG. He took two threes at 2:45 and 2:36 that killed that possession. If he hits either of those it's a tie game with 2:30 minutes left.

edit: well people in this case not moving

Yeah, they got a great wide open Tatum 3 out of that TO down 97-94 and he just missed it. Ime can’t make the ball go in the basket.

They've won 7 games in the playoffs that were under 8 point wins.
6 wins actually and 4 those were against Brooklyn

And the 2 wins the last 2 rounds were game 7 in Miami where they were a butler 3 away from blowing huge lead with under a minute and the Horford game 4 in Milwaukee. The Horford game I felt like was a breakthrough at the moment.

But the close and late games the the last 3 rounds

Bucks won game 3
Celtics won game 4 (bucks)
Miami won game 3
Miami won game 6
Celts won game 7 but really wasn’t close and late they just held on against Miami
Warriors won game 4

Sorry, just feel like this is still an issue

I agree. I am not confident in their ability to execute on offense late in a close game. Defensively they’re fine, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that they’ve struggled with late game offensive execution in close games throughout the season and it has carried over into the playoffs.

Probably part of still being a young team. They’ll improve in that area in the future, but it has hurt them in these playoffs.

The NBA should just declare that Game 5 is actually Game 7 and spare us the time and drama of waiting another 9 days to see who wins. Let's just make this the best of five.

Are you not counting game 7 against the Heat? Because that would be seven, no?

To be fair.. they haven't had hardly any close games since January.

edit: is seems like classic SSS

Gotta say I’m nervous. It is incredible that they’ve been able to respond to every single loss with a win throughout this run, but that’s so hard to do, and to keep doing it on the road. Feels like that bill has to come due at some point. Just sucks they couldn’t pull this one out.

Yep. This one was there for the taking. Brutal. Brutal brutal.

Team has too many cooks not enough chefs. One of Brown and or Tatum needed to take over the 4th instead of relying on Smart and White and other role players. That was a game for the stars to close instead they disappeared.

I blame the poster that confidently ruminated at halftime about Steph Curry being old and fading in the 4th quarter being the safety valve for the Celts to win this game.

That said, I wouldn’t bet on this team losing 3 in a row. Probably either win in 6 or a Game 7. These duds when the series is there for the taking is so draining as a fan I’m starting to feel ready for this to be over one way or the other.

where the darn libs live
Was there a single possession in the last 6 minutes where he tried to assert himself? He is an Uber talented player and filled up the box score. But for a “superstar” to fade into the background at the end of a finals game is soft. He’s on the floor. So you can’t make injury excuses.
I agree. But if he's hurt, he's hurt. He's clearly not the same guy before the shoulder issue in the Miami series.
