That was a butt ugly offensive quarter but it feels like the C’s have a good run in them in the second half. I’ll take down 1 at the half.

The Tatum shot at the end was fine. I'm having more issues with him holding the ball and not making quick decisions once they get to their spacing.

Dallas 8/12 at the rim, which means they were 2/5 in the second quarter. So they protected the rim better. True shot attempts are even.

Tillman did his job but you can definitely feel the drag on the offense when he’s out there just kind of floating no threat to do anything (and setting moving screens).

”Hey Luka, you’re going to have 17-3-3 at the half.”

”Sweet.”

”And Kyrie will have 20.”

”NICE.”

“Oh, and White, Holiday, and Brown will have 13 between them.”

”Perfect. So we’re up by at least 15, right?”

”Nope. One.”

*Luka flops looking for a foul because his ego’s bruised*

First half shooting: Boston 9-for-17 - twos 9-for-27 - threes Dallas 16-for-29 - twos 5-for-15 - threes
This is the math Boston wants from games. Just need to see a few more shots fall from behind the arc.

27 of 44 shots were 3s for the Celtics in the first half. That's 61.4% of shots. Boston hasn't finished a game over 60 percent yet this season. The high is 59.8%, Game 1 against the Heat.

Like 4 or 5 shots without any ball movement otherwise I thought things looked not far off the first two games. Don’t get baited into the 30 footers out of rhythm.

I really think the series is there if they maintain high defensive intensity. We have more horses and are better conditioned. Just wear them down and grind it out

Seems like Dallas is playing off the shooter to contain the drive and kick game and baiting the Cs into taking threes, so far it’s working. Really wish the ball had hit the paint on that last possession, grabbing a lead would have given the Mavs a lot to chew on at halftime

Feel pretty good about where they are... weathered the early storm, found a big who can hang, only down 1 despite not shooting that well from 3.... and the shot profile favors BOS, getting a lot more good looks from 3.

My 1st half notes:

Tatum shooting better from outside but still not finishing consistently at the rim. Part of that is the Mavs hacking him with impunity. Obviously a great half for him overall.

HAUSER

Luka sometimes seems more interested in baiting for BS fouls than actually scoring/winning.

Hope Breen and Doris brough extra towels for the orgasmic reactions to literally every Kyrie basket.

Someone needs to explain to Doris that it’s actually not a good thing for your basketball team when one or two guys account for almost all of the scoring.

Every time the Mavs get a dunk I expect confetti to come down.

Mavs threw some haymakers in front of a frenzied crowd, and it’s essentially tied.

Al Horford is good.

Fuck you Mahomes
This is first rate analysis

Keep making Luka work.
Based on what im reading, glad i could sync radio and tv.
When you watch these national broadcasts, it’s abundantly clear that they have preset talking points and narratives that they are determined to hit. Almost every basket that the Mavs scored the first few minutes was attributed to KP‘s absence. And every time Kyrie scored it was part of his redemption story.

Stephen A with a rare good point about the Cs being down only 1 with all that from Kyrie and Luka.

Random: one more reason to hate Mahomes.

And yes, Breen loses his shit every time Kyrie scores. It’s maddening. Kudos to all who can manage the radio synch.

yes. And also—they are trying to build up the superstars overall. They are pretty hesitant to call them out - Luka has been called out what once all series?

It seemed like the plan was to give Tatum and Brown more room and live with the threes. Tatum seems to be settling a bit. But he hit a few and has 20 and we’re only down 1 so it’s hard to call it overly effective.

Fouls are 10 against BOS, 4 against DAL
I’m OK with the 4 against Dallas, even though there were clearly more. The issue is the 10 against the Celtics are coming from a different standard. Lots of really bad “offensive player initiating contact” calls where the refs bought it.

i was going to burn it down when tillman came in but he’s been serviceable. he kills their spacing though
unfortunately all the bench bigs do, he's been very good on D for the most part. My guess is his 2nd half minutes will be limited if they can with Tatum usually going the full 2nd half this playoff run (except in blowouts).

Also a double dribble that could be called at either end on almost every possession

Credit to the ESPN team where it’s due: they did quickly recognize Hauser’s defense.
The ESPN crew is honestly good at this, they just are under orders to be effusive in praising stars and to push narratives. (Also I think Doris might be getting a bit of Marv Albert style eyesight issues)

honestly... not that many more, if they continue to shoot even on percentage with DAL and take a ton more they'll win. shot the exact same percentage from 3 and were +12 points.
