Effort is the story for Celtics on D and rebounding, to be sure. That's awful.
Offensively, this is more about shooting and officiating than process. There's some bad choices---in particular, from end of first to mid-second they had a sloppy stretch. But they've created a fair number of good looks both in paint and for three and cashed very few. Outside that's about shooting variance; in paint it's a mix of that and getting bodied.
I expect they'll come out better around all of that in second half. But it's a big hole to dig out of now.

They need to come out and work. I don't think Luka has another good 10 minutes in him, he is blowing steam at this point, but they need to play him straight.
His shots are starting to get short, those fade aways are energy. Stay in front. Let him go. Stay fucking home and take an off ball foul or two. If you start catching up they are going to tighten up.

The honeymoon phase on the Luka cycle of abuse. Smirking and owning fouls. If things get tight in the second half he'll go back on tilt and lose it.
The Celtics have been bricking open threes and missing layups. That’s why they’re getting beat. They haven’t been getting calls on drives all series. The officiating tonight is a little tight on the C’s but not enough for o complain about the Mav’s lead.
He finally started getting some calls at the end of the half when the refs realized it was getting way too obvious.
Both of these things can be true – and are related to one another. The effort suffers when you get frustrated. Plus, I imagine they’re a little tired from beating the shit out of four teams in a row.
I’ll be interested to see how they look out of the gate in the 3Q.

Dallas’s D is bette than the first 3 games for sure but it’s still not a juggernaut or anything. Celtics are missing some wide open 3’s (and have missed at least 3 layups/short midrange jumpers).
They are getting worked on the boards and the point of attack defense is really bad
They are getting mauled but getting ticky tacky calls on them so they aren't going up. You need to fucking push the issue even when you are the road.
They also need better ball movement and to push the pace. Make fucking Luke and Kyrie run. Also Xavier Tillman needs to lay into Lively next time he clubs a guy. Take the call.
It all comes down to making shots. You score points, you set your defense. At some point you have to put the ball in the hoop, but the whistle has been as unkind as you would imagine.

And they got really frustrated with the officiating really early. Things don’t usually go well for them when that happens and it all snowballed from there.
