WFH has been pretty dreadful, but with sports now running during the day I'm doing a 180. Pumped for Sheffield vs Aston Villa today.

So they have a cooling break each half, regardless of conditions? I saw this in Spain, which makes sense but according to Google it is 59 and raining in Birmingham right now. Not saying it's a bad thing, just interesting.

The sound doesn't bother me at all, I actually have grown to like it.

Villa got super lucky and probably should be down 1-0, but that also would have been the ugliest, flukiest goal ever so I can't get too upset about it.

I actually don't mind the fake crowd noise. But on my youtubeTV NBCSports feed, the audio is about a second behind the video. A little annoying to see a guy kick the ball and then hear the sound a second later, when the ball is long gone. I probably wouldn't have even noticed in a broadcast with real crowd noise.

Edit: and since I am nitpicking every little thing, I still don't like SHU as the abbreviation for Sheffield United. Looks like Seton Hall University is playing Aston Villa.
Or is it Rick SCHU?

Anyway, no big deal, I am just glad the game is back!

Is the idea that the keeper got fouled/knocked into the goal with the ball in his hands? I could buy that.

I love the generic non denominational singing in the background.

Do they actually have someone in a booth with a load of fx patches for cheering, booing, singing etc? Cos it's not a tape on a loop, is it?

Not able to watch. If folks don't mind responding how's the level of play? Early season choppy?
It's...Villa vs Sheffield. This is how they are going to play regardless of conditions. MANC vs Arsenal will be a more telling test.

What does this mean? I hate to stick up for them but have you watched the Pigs play football? They're better and more entertaining than Arsenal, that's for sure.

edit: This performance was a snooze fest for sure though.

Second game back and I've already witnessed one of my pet peeves, teams wearing alternate jersey's when they don't need to.

They aren’t universally “alternate jerseys” anymore. Juventus specifically call theirs an away kit now. It’s just a fact of commercialization. The kit deals are supremely lucrative. They’ll do whatever is needed to increase sales.

Everyone having "Black Lives Matter" on the back of their uniforms is confusing the hell out of me. I keep thinking "oh, that player has a really long last name and must not be (player who I thought it was)". It's a cool touch though, I wonder if one of the American leagues will take a cue from them.

I've enjoyed the first 20 minutes or so from Arsenal, at least more than I expected. Their midfield isn't very experienced but their speed might cause problems, especially with City playing a high-line.

One of the great mysteries of football is you can play intricate stuff and be denied by a keeper then go score a crap goal like that

The first goal coming directly from a Sideshow Bob shank should not be surprising.
"Shank" would imply a bit more contact with the ball than what Luiz provided.

"Where David Luiz goes, goals follow" Robbie Earle just said.

Ah, David Luiz is classic form already!
Can’t even use rust as an excuse. He’s just comically awful at his job.

And all of these came BEFORE Luiz conceded a dumb penalty and got sent off for a DOGSO!

Otamendi is Luiz’s biggest fan. Without Luiz, he’d be the most embarrassingly awful center back in the league.

David Luiz has single handily cost his team the game, and he was only on the field for like, 30 minutes.

California. Duh.
Give up 2 goals and get sent off before the 50th minute of a game that he didn't even start. That's quite a day.
