It feels like the Tigers should be better than their record, but here we are. I'd be OK with two out of three this weekend.

Friday: Elvin Rodriguez (0-0, 6.17 ERA) vs. Gerrit Cole (4-1, 3.12 ERA), 7:05 p.m. EDT
Saturday: Beau Brieske (0-4, 5.25 ERA) vs. Luis Severino (3-1, 3.38 ERA), 1:05 p.m. EDT
Sunday: Rony Garcia (0-1, 4.70 ERA) vs. Jordan Montgomery (1-1, 3.04 ERA), 11:35 a.m. EDT

NY was 39-22 last season after trading for Rizzo, so they are 75-37 overall since then, a 108-54 pace for 2/3 of a season.

This is infuriating:

Find yourself someone who loves you as much as I love Jose Trevino.

Holy shit, Matt Carpenter. He barely missed one his first time up too.

I think it's mostly because it's a 10-0 game, but I'm actually enjoying the Apple TV broadcast right now. It feels different than a normal broadcast in some ways, camera angles, etc. Not saying it's better so much than that it feels like an interesting contrast.

Chris Young is very good, I would much prefer him to Beltran on YES. I just hate the inability to DVR/pause etc., it's not like I'm going to watch commercials either way.

Agreed on Young. Apple knows how to please advertising partners and MLB at viewers' expense, I guess. I just like new broadcasts to some degree. Bored of YES, FOX, etc.

As of this moment, season OPS:

Jose Trevino .821
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. .818

(Actually that was before Trevino just walked again.)

86 pitches for Cole through 6, he needs some short ABs to have a shot at finishing this. He is working on 5 days rest, not his normal 4.

Fuck, I was gonna watch the Sox game, saw this was going on, then realized I have to tune into Apple TV coverage if I wanna see what happens. RIP me.

Cole threw 129 pitches in that insane 1-0 complete game against the Astros last year that is in my sig.

Over, probably for the best.
That's the thing. Everybody wants to see history but when the team is going as well as you guys are, it probably is for the best. Don't want to see your best guy "Johan Santana" himself and mess up his near future health.

Yep, exactly. His pitch count wasn't in bad shape yet but this works just fine for me, maybe NY can finally get Manny Banuelos into a game. He has been on the team for a week and not gotten into one yet.

Against two different teams too, not two guys taking advantage of the same weak lineup.

Good job Manny B, I would like them to trade/DFA Luetge and promote Shane Greene, and if Banuelos looks solid as a pen lefty, that helps that possibility.

It is no fun chasing the Yankees this year, the Blue Jays won 8 in a row before losing tonight, so they are 8-1 since 5/24. NY is 8-2 since 5/24.

Bad timing for Locastro to be out overlapping with Stanton and Donaldson, he would have gotten some starts if he'd been active the past ten days but now with them both back, he is back to AAA.

Also Andujar looked a lot better this past stint, at least I see now why Cashman has kept him on the 40 man this long.

I don't think I have ever before rooted for a team where my confidence in that day's pitcher is so catcher-dependent. All five SPs are very solid with Higgy, but even better with Trevino. I checked to see if the numbers corroborated this and they definitely do:

Higashioka: 221.1 innings caught, .645 OPS allowed and a 3.33 ERA.

Trevino (not counting tonight's shutout): 227 innings caught, .563 OPS allowed, and a 2.26 ERA.

Stanton DHing keeps Carpenter on the bench in favor of the two struggling OFs in Hicks and Gallo.

Aaron Judge CF
Josh Donaldson 3B
Anthony Rizzo 1B
Giancarlo Stanton DH
Gleyber Torres 2B
Joey Gallo RF
Isiah Kiner-Falefa SS
Kyle Higashioka C
Aaron Hicks LF
