OK, Thursday night was a good start to turning this thing around. Focus on the job at hand and no bellyaching about Sale. He was NEVER going to be a factor in this series. Twelve of Tampa's eighteen losses have come on the road, their road record is 14-12. I'm looking for the Sox to take at least 3 of these 4 games starting with Whitlock vs Glasnow. Whitlock looked mostly good in his last start returning from a month + on the IL. 3 hits, 1 run (HR), no walks and 4 Ks on 92 pitches over 5 innings. While the pitch count was a bit high over 5, the fact that he threw 92 pitches after 5 weeks on the IL was very encouraging. Glasnow's only had one start after beginning the season with an oblique strain giving up 3 runs over 4.1 innings. Getting on this guy early and getting into that pen ASAP is going to be huge for the Sox. OK, that's all I've got.

Tampa Bay is not a city. And they don't even play in Tampa. Reasons enough for them to lose.

It’s asking a lot, but Whitlock going deep into the game would be pretty outstanding.

Game 57
Thursday at Fenway beneath a full moon
felt, for a time, like a familiar tune
that would leave us drinking in a saloon.
Sale left the game hurt, but the Red Sox, hewn
from stone, did not shrivel up like a prune.
Cincinnati tied the game up but soon,
our offense emerged out of their cocoon,
storming to life like a raging typhoon,
showing pop to burst their (big Red) balloon.
A 6-run 8th inning! Base hits were strewn
all over the field, and it made us swoon.
Tampa’s in town and it’s tough to impugn
their early success, but they’re not immune
to painful losses. Bring out the harpoon
and leave them gasping for life on a dune.
Dirty Water’s for us. (It’s fun to croon.)
Stay undefeated in the month of June!

Apple weather says it clears by 8:15? I’m sure that’s super accurate.

The way the weather worked out here W. of Fenway was in waves. It thundered and was windy, then it rained hard for five minutes. Then it calmed down for a while, thundered some more and rained hard for 5 minutes. Now it's done, and much much cooler. No longer windy or anything now.

They have Heinz ketchup in the studio. Make them eat that slop at the concession stands.

They can't wait super long tonight with a DH on the way. Can just play it Monday afternoon.

By the way, I heard that this was originally a four game traditional wraparound series from Friday to Monday, but when finalizing the schedule they realized there was some violation of the # of days off players are entitled to for one of the teams. So maybe Monday can't be on the table even though today would be a "day off".

The story I saw was that the alternative was a three game series in September in the midst of a long stretch of games, and the teams chose the doubleheader now to have the day off then.

If they don't play tonight looks like they'll get neither.

Officially postponed, will be made up on Monday @ 4;00

Good for a laugh:

“It is very much an experiment,” said Red Sox CEO and president Sam Kennedy. “When we looked at the original schedule, it had us playing (the fourth game of the series) on Monday, a wraparound series — Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. We talked to Chaim (Bloom), Brian O’Halloran and Alex Cora, and said, ‘What about trying a doubleheader on the weekend?’

“We said that for two reasons. One, we think there will be more fan interest for day baseball on the weekend. And No. 2, it gets us that off-day and the ability to get some rest on that Monday and not have to worry about the start time on the Monday when we’re going to be getting ready to go to Cleveland (where the Sox have a three-game series June 6-8). It’s very much an experiment to see how it goes, but it was a proactive measure, based on those two factors, taking into account fan interest and Baseball Operations.”

And so they did! So far. Second best day of the month so far!
I would like more of these games against Tampa to be rained out too. Maybe we can reschedule some of these for later in the year when either they will not still be destroying the league, or, if they still are, we will already be out of it.

52 all day. Won’t get warmer or colder. And it’s windy too. Yay!
I remember days like that back there. Here (NorCal) we're going from 49 low to 82 high today.

Vorp reports that the Rays are continuing to go against 150 years of the grand old game tradition of a starter going until his arm might fall off. They'll be using a passel of pitchers instead.

The Rays have pushed Glasnow back to game two tonight and are going with Trevor Kelley as an opener. Tampa originally planned on Kelley opening one of today's games followed by Josh Fleming. Fleming injured his elbow playing catch last night and is likely headed to the IL, so it looks like 27th man Cooper Criswell will be following Kelley.
Very SSS, but here's a look at what Criswell's done in the bigs this season and IMO the Sox need to make this kid pitch. Hopefully they can score early on Kelley and then beat this kid up and get further into the pen in the first game.

Cooper Criswell was the childhood friend of a Jane Austen heroine. He died young in a horseback riding accident and it haunts her to this day. Her mother always calls him "that Criswell boy."

Is this one going to be delayed 30 minutes too or will they start in the rain?

Blacked out in Orlando, so it’s another series where I sign up for a free week trial of Bally Sports then they to sync the Bally tv app with the mlb phone app weei audio.

Luckily with the balanced schedule, I don’t have to do it as many times a year.

I guess it’s also good for that the Sox don’t have to play the Rays a bunch of times, too.

Let’s win!
