In the simulacrum
The problem tonight is that the Islanders played their best game. They dominated the boards, they had long stretches where they clogged the neutral zone on Bruin transitions and they then moved through the neutral zone on their transitions with ease. They also, after Pasta's whiff, essentially clogged both shooting and passing lanes through the middle. They won this one.

I'm worried that while I think the Bruins really are the better team, the depth on D is starting to show. Miller and Carlo being out is hard. Tinordi played well tonight, and he was not at all why they lost, but he is slow for the pace of these games. A shift with he and Ritchie out there is a white knuckler.

They have to bury chances when they have them in front of the net. The top line was not good tonight and they have to be better. With the D situation the way it is, we have to score more.

my anti-Ritchie stance is rooted in the fact that coyle and debrusk can play better but Ritchie can’t get faster. Big and slow just doesn’t play well anymore, especially in the playoffs

edit: typo
Good point. Ritchie was good earlier in the year when he had the net front of PP1. Now that he doesn’t have it, he does...well get back to me when someone figures that out.

Ritchie is the easiest to scratch although DeBrusk theoretically has the most to gain from being scratched and then put back in after being shamed with a benching.

Ritchie should sit regardless. Can’t come back with that line again unless injuries force it.

I do not know what Jake DeBrusk (or most of the third line for that matter) does.
Let my son stay up and watch- we had a talk about that. I asked him to name one thing Ritche/Coyle/JDB did tonight, and all he had was seeing Coyle standing next to Palmieri after he scored.

I don't think people (that don't announce for NBC) really get what a tough team to beat the Islanders are. They have guys who can create and make plays while also being capable of all but eliminating high quality chances against; they played a great game tonight and deserved the W. Cheers to them, gotta hope the 'canes can extend the bolts.

I like your son.

DeBrusk fell a couple times on the puck. I would say it was a penalty but he’s basically the straw house from the Three Little Pigs.

Worlds End
Outside of Game 1, Pasta’s been pretty weak IMO. Bergy and Marchand seem to be driving play a lot more than Pasta.
This is where I'm at as well. Pasta wasn't great last night. It seemed there were 3 or 4 times he was carrying the puck through the neutral zone where he would get caught from behind, like he was moving at like 75% for most of the night. We also need more from the Krejci line as well...Cassidy mentioned it in his postgame he needed those guys specifically to get more pucks to the net. I think if the top 6 guys do their job we really wouldn't need to be worrying much about tinkering with the bottom 6.
