Today's Games:

International League Pawtucket Red Sox - OFF DAY
Eastern League Portland Sea Dogs - OFF DAY
Carolina League Salem Red Sox (Jake Thompson) vs. Winston-Salem Dash [CHW] (Blake Battenfield) [7:05pm]
South Atlantic League Greenville Drive - OFF DAY
New York Penn League Lowell Spinners - OFF DAY
Gulf Coast League GCL Red Sox vs. GCL Orioles [12:00pm]
Dominican Summer League DSL Red Sox 1 vs. DSL Rays1 [10:30am]
Dominican Summer League DSL Red Sox 2 @ DSL Indians [10:30am]

Notes:

The AAA All-Star game and the EL All-Star game will be held on Wednesday. Given the paucity of games being played today (and the All-Star games), at some point a preliminary MLB schedule had their All-Star Game being held today as opposed to next week. [Most leagues tend to clear the schedule so as not to compete with the MLB All-Star Game.]

GCL Sox score more than the O's, win 4-1.

Boxscore

Zach Schellenger pitched his first inning of the year, striking out two in the first. Austin Glorius followed with his first inning of the season, striking out one in the second. Rayniel Adames then shut down the O's over the next six, relinquishing two hits and a hit by pitch while whiffing five. Luis Rivero let in an unearned run on two hits in the ninth; whiffing a pair.

Brandon Howlett hit a single and a double, drew a walk, and was caught stealing in four battles. Jecorrah Arnold walked twice and struck a double in four jaunts. Chad Hardy hit a double and earned a free pass in four contests. Freiberg Marin and Caleb Ramsey each ripped a single in four forays. Ricardo Cubillan and Elih Marrero each mashed a single in five excursions. Nicholas Northcut notched a base on balls in four matchups. Juan Carlos Abreu earned a walk in five appearances.

Salem uses the long ball to slip by the Dash, 8-4.

Boxscore

Bryan Mata was hit for four runs on six hits and two walks over five frames; whiffing a quartet. Kevin McAvoy yielded a hit, two hit by pitches, and two wild pitches over the final four innings; striking out a trio.

Bobby Dalbec continues to mash, hitting two singles and two bombs (now at 21) while driving in five and stealing a base in his perfect day at the plate. Brett Netzer notched two singles and a double in four battles. Trent Kemp walked once and knocked two taters in four treks. Tyler Hill hit a single and earned a free pass in four trips. Nick Sciortino scorched a single in four at-bats. C.J. Chatham, Jerry Downs, Chris Madera, and Ryan Scott each had four futile forays.

The multiple player, multiple homer game is the first one to happen for Salem since the Red Sox came to town in 2009.

Dalbac! Woo hoo!

Since the previous discussion a few days ago, he’s kicked it up another notch. You can start to argue The K rate is now really coming down. Beautiful.
