Rotation is rested. Bullpen is recharged. Reinforcements (welcome Jarren Duran - time to fulfill your promise and join Ted Williams, Reggie Smith, Manny Ramirez (with Cle), JBJ and Mookie Betts in getting your first ML hit at the Toilet) are here! Let's bury the hopes that the pinstripers have of putting their miserable 1st half behind them and go to 7-0 against the MFY!

Yankees haven't named their starter yet (because they're scared obviously) but ERod is looking to shut them down like he did 2 1/2 weeks ago at Fenway. Geaux Sox!

where I was last at
Listening to Joe Torre on WFAN now, and when asked about his take on Sox-MFY, his one-word answer was "exhausting". While he called it the most intense rivalry in his experience, he added that after each series he would call Francona or Francona would call him, and the message was "I'm glad that' craps over".

These next 24 games are going to be huge for our season. 13 wins out of those 24 would be a great showing. Let's get one tonight.

I'm so ready for this.

"RedSox tonight: Hernández 2B, Verdugo LF, Martinez DH, Bogaerts SS, Devers 3B, Renfroe RF, Duran CF, Vazquez C, Dalbec 1B and Rodriguez LHP.:" - Pete Abe

But don't fuck it up, Yankees!

"Yankees have canceled pregame batting practice as they work through COVID-19 testing and health and safety protocols. " - Yankees beat writer

Did I need another reason to dislike the Yankees? No, not really, but...

At least they get a full All-Star rest...

Sooooo, the Yankees haven't achieved that 85% vaccination level, huh? Ugh.
No, they were I think the first team to do so, but they all got the J&J shot, which we now know is not great at stopping the Delta variant.

Damn, I was really looking forward to this game. I guess another day's rest is good, but when will we get clarity on tomorrow's game? Is that in jeopardy, too?

Why don’t they have to play down players? Isn’t that what the Phillies were forced to do?

Get fucking vaccinated you obstinate athletes.
We'll probably learn more, but I don't think it's unvaccinated athletes that are the issue, I think it's breakthrough infections because they got the J&J vaccine, and the constant testing that turns it up even though everyone is asymptomatic currently (just regurgitating the Twitter reports, a developing story).

A more likely story is unvaccinated players coming back from the ASB with positive tests.

The Yankees who were previously tested as positive a couple of months ago had all been vaccinated. None of the 7 ever developed any symptoms. They were tested because of close exposure to a person who did develop Covid-19 with symptoms.

We really need to redefine what is actually illness from simply testing positive. I do not know the details of the current situation. We also don't really know which Red Sox players and coaches have been vaccinated.

This is close to correct, but Phil Nevin (NY's 3rd base coach) was one of the seven and he ended up with pretty bad symptoms and was out for weeks (he was vaccinated).

At the end of a weeklong road trip with my nephew that was supposed to culminate in this game.

Fuck.

There are a number of Sox who aren’t vaccinated. That makes me mad too.

Breakthrough cases, even with J&J, are exceedingly rare. Per AP, of the 400 hospitalized with COVID in LA, 400 are unvaccinated.
Hospitalized is a big jump from testing positive, many vaccinated people, especially ones who got the J&J version, have later tested positive. The vaccine doesn't stop you from getting it (how could it?), it just makes the symptoms much much weaker in most cases, hence the lack of hospitalizations of vaccinated people.

Yes, just realized this nuance and edited my post.
