Here
No, they were I think the first team to do so, but they all got the J&J shot, which we now know is not great at stopping the Delta variant.
I thought the latest data on J and J was that it was pretty good against it. J and J also takes time, so I do wonder if those 7 Yankees earlier came in contact early after their shots and before defenses were built up.

The Yankees who were previously tested as positive a couple of months ago had all been vaccinated. None of the 7 ever developed any symptoms. They were tested because of close exposure to a person who did develop Covid-19 with symptoms.

We really need to redefine what is actually illness from simply testing positive. I do not know the details of the current situation. We also don't really know which Red Sox players and coaches have been vaccinated.
No we don't. First goal is obviously to not get ill. But not spreading the virus, whether you're "ill" or not is a pretty close 2nd.

Why don’t they have to play down players? Isn’t that what the Phillies were forced to do?
MLB steps in and decides. My guess is with contact tracing they can't even field a team tonight. Gives the Yanks 24 hours to call up replacements (seems like the Korean AAA shortshop, Park, is one of them).

Cross-posting from COVID thread:

"If Red Sox had zero COVIDs and Yankees 3, it should be a Yankees forfeit and a Red Sox W "

Cashman stated on YES that MLB, not Yankees, made the decision to cancel tonight’s game. Cashman stated MLB will also make decision about playing Friday Night.

IMO, MLB needs to establish clear rules here because this will continue to occur through pennant race.

Why can't they just play with 22 or 19 or 15 players? Or put the positive players on the IL/DL and call up from Scranton?

This is so fucking dumb. These dudes saw first hand how E-Rod lost his entire season last year with covid side effects, how can you be that ignorant?
This is the word salad JDM spewed when asked about vaccines:

“They’ve mentioned it to us but that’s not a team decision,” Martinez said. “That’s a personal decision. To each his own. Everybody has the right to believe and to think what they want to think about their body and what they’re putting into their body. Obviously, it’s one of those things where it would be nice to have that kind of advantage but it is what it is.”

Stupid is as stupid does.

The Yankees have had a crazy number of people who have been fully vaccinated that have subsequently gotten Covid.
Right?! I mean I'm vaccinated but not going out and kissing random strangers on the street, which these vaccinated Yankee players must practically be doing to be seeing so many positives.

Just FYI because I used to think like you guys, but I just got covid along with 4 others I work with. We went to a work dinner with about 20 others last week and this weekend we started having symptoms. The 5 of us who got it (that I know of) had at least the Pfizer or jnj vaccines and not sure which one 2 of the others had. So I haven't heard a ton publicly about out breaks amongst the vaccinated but it certainly just hit close to home. So not sure if these Yankees were or weren't vaccinated but I can't assume they weren't like I would have a week ago.

Or...the Delta variant is that much more infectious, and the vaccinated folks have completely let their guard down.

Fingers crossed none of the Sox players were infected by that ogre Judge.

A lot of scrambling for contact tracing on a bunch of teams right now I’m sure.

Filing this away for when the Sox outbreak hits. I expect the same courtesy.

This is right.

The UK has muuuuuuuuch higher vaccination rates than the US, with 80+% of adults having received at least one dose, and they're in the midst of a wild outbreak. Thankfully, with so many people vaccinated, there have been relatively few deaths — here's hoping it remains that way — but there have been a ton of cases.

Doesn’t have to be the Delta variant. Most (all?) of the Yankees got the J&J shot which was the least effective to begin with (vs Pfizer and Moderna) so it could be just that they caught it from their other Yankee teammate who already had it.

So is this going to be a never-ending cycle as new variants keep springing up? Vaccines obviously have to follow variants, so we will forever be playing catch-up. As new variants appear, are we forever - even as we are vaccinated - going to have to wear masks, social distance, isolate as cases arise, etc?
