PawSox lose another one-run game, 3-2.

Josh Allen Smith surrendered three runs on five hits and two walks over six frames; striking out seven. Matt Gorst continued to do what Matt Gorst do, giving up two hits in two scoreless innings.

Ivan De Jesus singled once and walked twice in five dances. Sam Travis doubled once and earned a free pass in four sessions. Adam Lind, Mike Miller, Kyle Wren, and Cole Sturgeon each lined a single in four appearances. Tony Renda ripped a single in five trips. Rusney Castillo singled in the ninth as a pinch-hitter for Dan Butler, who was unable to reach in three unremarkable ups. Mike Ohlman suffered four odious opportunities.

PawSox went 2-9 in one-run games in July. They had been 14-7 going into July.

Teddy Stankiewicz was struck for five runs on a walk, two hit by pitch, and five hits – including a two-out grand slam by Chad Sedio in the seventh – over seven innings; striking out a sextet. Stankiewicz was brilliant through six, with only a single, a HBP, and a walk. In the seventh, he gave up three consecutive singles to start the frame before striking out a pair. Then, a HBP and the slam put him in a losing position. Daniel McGrath was dinged for two runs on a double and a Jake Rogers jack in two frames.

Danny Mars managed a single, a double, and a walk in four dances. Tate Matheny thumped two singles and drew a free pass in five trips. Jeremy Rivera ripped two singles in five jaunts. Michael Chavis contributed a single and two bases on balls in five matchups. Chad De La Guerra golfed a double and drew a walk in five contests. Josh Ockimey obtained a single in five opportunities. Austin Rei received two free passes in five attempts. Jordan Betts walked once and whiffed thrice before being lifted for pinch-hitter Luke Tendler who flied out in the ninth. Deiner Lopez put on the golden sombrero with his five frustrating forays; striking out to begin the ninth inning and then striking out with the bases loaded and four runs in to end the game.

Salem scores the first run... and then nothing else good happened, downed by Lynchburg 8-1 in a game ended by rain after eight innings.

Kevin McAvoy was knocked for five runs (four earned) on three hits, two walks, two hit by pitches, and FIVE wild pitches over five frames; whiffing a quintet. Yankory Pimentel yielded three runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks over 2 1/3 innings; striking out one. Jake Cosart picked up the final two outs – one by way of the K – while giving up one walk.

Tyler Hill hit three singles and stole one base in four trips. Brett Netzer notched two singles in four battles. Michael Osinski obtained a single and a walk in four opportunities. Jordan Procyshen and Chris Madera each managed a single in three jaunts. Bobby Dalbec and Human Pincushion Jerry Downs were each hit by a pitch in four dances. C.J. Chatham and Victor Acosta each were vanquished in all four ventures.

If you think McAvoy's five wild pitches were as bad as it gets... let's just say there is worse to come.

Game two of the double-header, making up a rain-out from July 22, made it into the third inning before being suspended. Irony!

The game will be continued today (assuming better weather) with the Drive down 4-1. Asheville will have a runner on third with out out in the top of the third.

Hansel Viola was called upon to finish the eighth, picking up the final two outs, one via the K.
