So at best they're going to split against a bottom 5 team in baseball. This series needed to be a sweep if they really want to make a run for the wild card, as difficult as that sounds. That's the position they've put themselves in.

Top 3 were 0-12 with 6 strikeouts, although to be fair I have no fucking idea why Pham is leading off.
Because he's hit well since he joined the Sox, is very fast, and hits lefties well?

And because they don't have a ton of great candidates.

I didn't really care what happened this season last month after the 4-13 stretch against the AL East (pretty much a definitive stretch and they failed by a country mile), but now that they will 99% end up over the tax I am more concerned they mismanaged the season even further. Sucks.

The only other choices seem to be Arroyo or I guess, Davis? Not sure it really matters. The only guys on the team who get in base at a decent clip are the heart of the order.

They really don't have anyone who's good at leading off without Kiké. They could put Devers there and hope for some Schwarber-esque power out of the leadoff spot, but otherwise it's pretty grim.

Whatever happens, I hope we get some looks at potential future pieces the rest of the way. Casas, some pen arms, maybe Valdez.

At least the Yankees lost again to compound a sense of panic in their fan base. I’d much rather be them than us, but regression to the mean in the Bronx would be something to help offset annoyance with the Sox.

Maybe it works out but feels like they messed with a winning roster a bit too much.

They have been playing mediocre ball for a while now, 21-22 in their last 43, well before any moves were made. They miss Stanton and RIzzo and Severino, all of whom should be back, and Montas debuts today.

A team starting out hot, then leveling off/fading into the dog days of Summer.

Red Sox fan since 1967; I've seen that movie before, luckily hardly ever since 2004.
