There was no way he was going to be able to stretch out to be more than a reliever anyway, so a bit of a blessing in disguise, with Deivi in his spot currently. Happ going down and Schmidt getting his starts would also be nice, in the bigger picture (to get an idea of what we have in Schmidt before offseason decisions need to be made).
I know this is a bit of a rhetorical question, but to get into the top 4 seeds and get the first series at home, NY either needs to win the division or have the best record of the three second place teams. Ten wins in a row would get them in that neighborhood at least.
I realize it is possible, but would require considerable luck and...if it weren't for bad...we've had none of that this year.
The schedule through Boston next weekend is not difficult. Sometimes teams go from cold to hot, or vice versa, like the flick of a switch. Something loosens guys up, like a no-hitter, or one guy getting insanely hot, and players relax.

DJ is feeling a lot better, very aggressive base stealing and gets home on a lousy throw 1-1...but, his slide home left him getting up...gingerly
Torres liner allows Voit to lumber home on a really lousy throw way offline to the plate 2-1, still one out and we have 2nd and 3rd
Tanaka had a rocky first and while he escapes the 2nd it was in many ways even worse. he's @ 46 pitches
I don’t know why you guys are so bearish on this team’s chances in the postseason. Tanaka has turned things around and is a solid No. 2, and we saw today what Cole is capable of when he’s on. Anything can happen in a 3 or 5 game series, and I still like the front of the rotation and the back end of the bullpen, especially in a short series. You just need a healthy lineup (big if, I know).
I just want them to start playing well, and they have done it three games in a row. Teams can go from flat to sharp quickly if they keep pushing and the schedule gives them a few soft spots. These are the Orioles, after all.
Deivi is looking like the #3 currently, I wish they would let Schmidt audition already for a top 4 spot.
This is the real dilemma for Boone and Cashman. Will they commit to youth over experience? Gotta see García a few more times. Not sure where Schmidt fits. Happ might be their best option at 4.
