Look, I'm the most irrational, emotional Yankees fan on this site. I know this and try to keep it in check, but this particular team makes it exceedingly difficult.

My family group chat tries to DFA a player every other day and it's hard not to feel that way.

I feel like this fucking team has a chance to actually win something (mainly because the rest of the AL is similarly flawed).

So they should do that. It'd be nice to win something.

That said I'm going to two games this week against the team I hate more than our Sunday opponent. I can't handle getting short sleep and watching the Yankees suck. So, gonna need this team to pull its collective heads out of their asses and get hot.

Jesus Christ, I don't ask for much. Can I get a fucking three-game winning streak?!

Sunday had been exceedingly kind to Boston through most of the year but not as much lately. After starting the season 14-1 on the Sabbath, the Red Sox have gone 2-7 since. Interesting matchup with Crawford and Rodon facing off. Peripherals are similar, but Crawford comes in at 8-14, while Rodon sports a spiffy 14-9 record. Crawford's bugaboo has been the longball. If he limits the Yankees to just a single tater, I think Boston has a chance.

Despite their abject mediocrity, the Red Sox are still only 3.5 games behind the last wild card spot, with a three game set looming against that very team. Still not over!

Listening to the pregame on radio here in Boston, and it seems clear that Cora and Co. took exception to Cole hitting Devers in the 1st yesterday. There will probably be a message sent by the Red Sox at some point during this one. Will be interesting, for sure.

The first part is definitely correct, Cora is (fully understandably) trying to use that to galvanize his team for the final few weeks.

But also he said that the reprisal already happened "in the 6th", which was when Bello threw behind Judge when trying to plunk him, so Cora said that from his perspective, it's done.

Oh, OK. I missed that part of it. Of course, Cora would want to say that so he has plausible deniability should someone get plunked today.

I don't think it would be a bad thing to give Berti a couple of starts at SS to allow Volpe to get some rest and mentally reset.

Two GIDPs for Duran, did not see that coming.

Good win, good series, off to the West Coast. 3 up with 12 to play!

Duran grounded into just 7 DPs in the last two seasons before today, over 1000 PAs.

Today he added two to that total, baseball!!

I was really hoping the Mariners would have nothing left to play for, but now I expect obnoxious fans and scary baseball games.

I'm sitting in right field, first deck the next two nights - and will be patiently waiting to not catch a Soto home run. You all may remember a few years ago a Judge ball landed literally right in the glove of the guy in front of me in the second deck in left field and there is a photo of me doing the "reach my hands out while pulling my body away in horror" pose.

Anyway, I'd love for the Yankees bats to explode tonight, but I fear that won't be the case against the best starting rotation in baseball.

It only took them like 3 extra months to figure out Volpe should sit occasionally.

I'm not a fan of Cabrera covering SS or 2B when Berti is available, but I'm glad Volpe has a couple of days to reset, though he'll probably be a late defensive replacement if the game is close today.

And I know you guys know this, but since I just looked it up, I'll share numbers: DRS loves Cabrera's work at 3B this year, +8 in 566 innings. He's -1 at SS in 20 innings and -3 at 2B in 77. Dead neutral at 1B at 0 in 35 innings. Overall, he's turning into a solid utility player that while not great up the middle, can cover almost every position, outfield included. His bat has been improving too, at least against RHP.

Not special, but he's a useful player with potential to improve more.

Yeah, the slightly tricky thing is that Berti is pretty similar and probably better at it (and under contract one more year) but NY probably has room for both on the roster next season.

BAL loses 10-0, so the division lead will be either 3 or 4 games after tonight with 11 left to play (12 currently).

Verdugo is so frustrating. Two outs and he's on first. Gleyber hits a bloop and Verdugo jogs to second.

Fucking run, Alex.
It actually looked to me like he forgot how many outs there were for a second, then remembered and realized he should be running. They showed him patting his chest right afterwards like "my bad". Not great.

Soto!

200th homer of his career, 40th of the season, and now one in every ballpark. Dude is good.

Soto's blast makes for the first pair of Yankees with 40+ in the same season since Mantle/Maris in 1961. Ruth/Gehrig is the only other pair, who did it thrice.

Another great AB by Dominguez, and shows real power to take that out to center. Awesome.

That was the first time SEA has allowed 10 at home all season, impressive team effort!

Easy to overlook in all the fireworks and as dumb a play as you’ll ever see from Robles (3-0!!!!) is that Gleyber scored three of the first six runs, all after hits, plus he had some sweet defensive plays early on.

Random question that none of us can remember: where is Grisham? Did he get hurt?
He came in late as I guess you saw but he never plays because now Dominguez is ahead of him also. He only had 1 AB in Sept before tonight (and it was a grand slam, heh).

I was shocked when he came in because I had literally forgotten about him.

At any rate, that was a very enjoyable game. Hoping for another one tomorrow!

Could the Yankees be peaking at the right time?
Getting Gil and Schmidt back obviously helped the rotation a lot, Hamilton helped the bullpen, Dominguez' presence helps the lineup even if he hasn't actually hit much yet. People always mock the concept of getting back your own players as deadline acquisitions but sometimes that's the smartest option.

I'm wondering if they are done tinkering in the bullpen, for instance Clayton Beeter is just back after being out a few months and has looked awesome so far in a few outings.

Also Ben Rice (another HR in AAA last night) is pretty clearly better than Anthony Rizzo right now but not sure what NY can do there if Rizzo doesn't get hurt again.

It's tough. Rice had plenty of opportunity and was absolutely horrible the last couple of months, often looking completely overmatched at the plate.

I'm glad he's performing better at AAA, but I'm not surprised they're sticking with Rizzo so far.
