Great reffing. They called it a safety to ensure review on a play where the team did not have any challenges. I don’t think they had safety on the field at first. Once they saw it maybe was a TD they called it a safety after the short conference.

So do you want a safety or a TD? so you get 5 more points, but two points and the ball is probably better now from a game management situation...

Wow, this went from "standard grind-it-out somewhat-close Patriots win" to laugher in like record time.

And Folk gets a quick do-over, too. How nice of them.

Belichick is such a marvel.

Three part play

Was Carr's knee down before ball out?
If no, Was Car in the end zone?
If yes, was Wise down by contact with recovery?
But the ball never left the end zone. It's impossible for it to have been anything other than a TD or safety. Once the fumble was confirmed, review is over.

So handle Miami pretty easily in week 1. Lose on the road to maybe the best team in the NFC on the last play of the game by a frigging yard. Then blow out the 2-0 Raiders who have come off a great win against another NFC stud team in New Orleans.

Maybe, just maybe, these Patriots are pretty damned good.
