I'm still waiting to hear the first mention on ESPN since this entire thing started of ESPN employee Ray Lewis

Maybe they've done it, but I have heard one

I blame Belichick for not teaching him better camera management.

CNN reporting all Hernandez gear taken from Pro Shop will be available in the Cedar Junction commissary by tomorrow. Jerseys going for 2 cartons of cigs.

You don't think your environment and the types of areas and business that you are conducting can put you in bad situations?  It doesn't excuse the behavior, it's just a theory about how he could have gone from "risky" draft pick to "good citizen" Patriot for three years, back to "alleged murderer."  Unless there was a bunch of stuff covered up, it sounds like a guy who had put all that shit behind him, but then it came back big.
I totally agree with the first sentence.  It just sounds to me that Hernandez was putting himself in those situations rather than finding himself in them.  If that makes any sense.

If the cap hit for releasing AH is $7.5MM, does it put the Pats over the cap, and if so, is there a NFL penalty for that?

Reports I've seen say it hits their 2014 cap.

As I said above, I'm skeptical that the Pats acted rashly when a more deliberate approach would have avoided this cap hit.

OK, sorry to lead everyone on, but considering she just found out (from me) that Sutter was en route to Attleboro District Court, I think it's safe to say that rumor was just that - rumor.

Cap hit for 2013 is the same, as Hernandez had a guaranteed salary.  Since he's cut after June 1, remaining signing bonus of $7.5M is all accelerated onto the 2014 cap.

Agreed.  I mean, even I can make this inference at this point.

Why would they mention Ray Lewis? That was a brawl where two men got killed, not an execution-style shooting.

If murder charges against AH don't stick, or if he's released on bail, I'm sure ESPN will make the Lewis analogy. Until then, it's not relevant in the mind of anyone who isn't a Pats fan.

It does, so it could also be a case where he got the contract and just had money and youth associated hubris to go along with anger issues, which is a bad combination.  I just don't think that unless something else comes out, you can really fault the Patriots for offering that deal.  Will be interesting to see the details.

I just wonder about the balancing act of the Pats/Kraft in doing the "right thing" while not hamstringing football operations. And I agree the Krafts are not stupid people.prone to rash decisions. This probably has been discussed by lawyers for the past week.

Because Lewis ultimately got hit with obstruction of justice which, until today, was the thought process regarding Hernandez

In this ultra-gadgetified day and age, one has to think not-so-bright AH sent and received some unsavory texts before the event went down. It wouldn't be surprising to see he left some kind of "pixel trail."

That has DENTIST written all over it. The guy in charge of the twitter account tried to explain that it was in bad taste but Charles grinned, smiled and did what he always does while twitter guy slowly shakes his head and massages his temples to get the migraine to go away.

Anyone else have the gut feeling that this may not be at all drug-related (the motive, that is)?

Yup.  Somebody mentioned that there might have been an issue between the victim and his GF.  No idea where I saw that.

Yup. I don't blame the pats for offering the deal or for realeasing him when this happened.  Seemed like a good idea at the time that didn't work out.  It happens.

It was in bad taste and horribly petty ("Look at us!") and reinforced the notion that Werner and his merry gang of PR princesses over there have the thinnest skin this side of Bill Simmons.

I must've forgotten when the other three local teams piled on the Sox for the beer and chicken and pain killer fun times. Oh that's right, that's because it never happened.

Awesome.  Journalism dies a little bit more with each one of these kinds of stories.

I don't fault them for offering the deal at all.  How were they supposed to know what he was doing away from Gillette or who he was associating with?

If in this day and age, an NFL team doesn't have an internal investigation department keeping tabs on its players, that team is pretty damn dumb
