I feel like I could talk myself into rooting for him now by convincing myself the accusations aren't true, but if I did and it turned out they were, the disgust I'd feel would be worse than any joy I'd potentially get rooting for him or a team with him on it. Does that make sense? Like a kind of bizarre Pascal's Wager.
Even setting aside the sexual assault allegations, the obvious attempt at intimidation with the artist doesn't move the needle for you?

Here
Taking a quick pulse on AB's return. After the lackluster performance by the O, do your want AB back if given a chance?
Never wanted him gone. I said from the beginning the offense concerned me moving forward and I thought it was a league average unit. Even if it was the best offense in the league, I’d have wanted to keep him. RINGS BABY RINGS.

I’m on board. He’s still a psycho but he needs to be our psycho. Offense stinks.

AB or not AB, that is ... NOT the question.

With Sanu sporting a high ankle sprain and Dorsett out with a concussion, quietly wondering why we’re not at Defcon4 over who is actually going to line up at WR on Sunday, let alone return the punts?

edit: N’Keal and Meyers with Edelman seems a bit thin, no?
Edelman must be wondering who he has left to throw TDs to.

If I was willing to take back a batshit crazy stripper ex girlfriend with a tremendous, all world rack back in the day, I'll take him back.

It only lasted another couple of months, I can put up with AB for another couple of months as well.

From a horizontal relating standpoint, it was worth it with her; it remains to be seen if having him back would be worth it from a non horizontal relating standpoint/from another ring only standpoint with him.

No thanks. I don't need a 7th Super Bowl that badly. I don't need the players to be saints or even good people, but I don't want known pieces of shit like Brown.

We all seem to be forgetting the one “little” detail with the league HQ. This coming back business only works if he is totally cleared to play without suspension or exemption. I wouldn’t even entertain this idea until I had a handwritten note signed by Roger.

Even if he is cleared, no way do I want another ride on the crazy train. Once was enough.

Let's do it, I'm ready to get hurt again. Feelings on both sides of the coin are completely justified. For me one week wasn't enough, we were robbed of something special. The offense, let alone the media, will be something to watch.

Come home, Antonio.

The guy is at best eccentric and at worst a criminal. I'm not aware of anything he's been convicted of. Bring him back and watch the media eat itself.

If they do decide to sign him again, would he be signed to a new deal? So he'd essentially be on the books twice?

Like, we sign him to league minimum now, plus he gets his previous salary.

No one on the roster is remotely close to AB. He’s a special player. But the idea that nobody else could ever run that route he ran for the TD seems a bit over the top.

This has been my question. I can't imagine the Patriots doing some *wink*wink* "League minimum, but we will quietly drop our opposition to your grievance relating to the other money this season," arrangement. The League would probably order demolition of Gillette and then draw and quarter Belichick in the town square. Absent that, what is the incentive for AB to come here instead of taking KC's many millions of dollars and looking to make even more money aside from his apparent affection for TB12?

The optics of this are just ridiculously bad. Nothing has really changed since the Patriots cut him, other than quite a few ridiculous on-line tirades and one twitter apology. It'd be different if something material had changed about the allegations - but they haven't. The only thing that has changed is the Patriots seem more desperate on offense. Changing your opinion about a player's character because of how the offense is doing is a really bad look for the team.

I'm also optimistic that things will look much better soon. N'Keal was a 1st round pick. I certainly hope he's got some pretty good talent. Also with Wynn back, Brady should have longer than 1 second to throw the ball.

Except for AB meeting with the NFL and counter-suing his accuser.

No, I have been following along with the whole discussion. Did I miss the announcement that he has been cleared by the NFL to resume playing with no restrictions?

No, you missed the fact that we have been discussing that he could be penalized ... so the "We all seem to be forgetting the one “little” detail with the league HQ" part of your post was inaccurate

The discussion is “do we want him back?” While he is a free agent, he can’t be suspended or put on the exempt list, but the second he is signed by a team, either one of those can kick in. Without an answer to his availability, all we are doing here is mental gymnastics. Pardon me for stating the obvious.

And we've been discussing that for several pages. Saying that people weren't considering that factor pretty much points out that you hadn't been following the discussing

You weren't stating the obvious ... you were repeating what had been said several times already.

You are stating the obvious. We all know AB needs to be cleared by the NFL first. It's been posted earlier in the thread, particularly Red's post #727 and Willie's post #733.

The question is, do we want the Pats to sign AB if the NFL clears him to play? You've stated you don't want him. That's perfectly reasonable.

But I don't think anyone is saying they want to sign AB with the threat that the NFL holds him out for the rest of the year still on the table. It wouldn't make sense at all (cap ramifications) and that's really not what we're discussing.

Both the Patriots and SOSH have much more offense with him back, so I say do it for the points and the thread posts

Yeah but nobody is focused on how the league office is going to view a potential Brown return. Its like everyone is willingly ignoring the obvious or failing to address it.

Between here and everywhere.
Is no one here going to address the elephant in the room that AB is likely to be put on the exempt list or suspended the second he signs with a team?

homers.

There's rampant speculation that he could be hit with either of these options. That was before he met with the league.

Not homers, just able to take in information and have interesting, albeit speculative, conversations. It's a good time, you should try it.

Edit: on mobile, spelling.

That's a feature, not a bug.

Sign him, 4 week suspension while he has a roster exemption, activate in time for postseason. Meanwhile, Harry and Jacobi get more reps and experience.

I’m still a no. Nothing at all, that I know of, had changed in regards to the behavior that got him released in the first place. No apologies, no public remorse about those completely unacceptable and threatening texts. Also, I just have zero confidence that he can keep it between the guardrails for the rest of the season, so I don’t I think he’s a good risk, despite his obvious talent. I mean, after watching the offense the last few weeks, I absolutely get the temptation to bring him back. And if they do so, I’m certain I’ll be a hypocrite, hold my nose, and root for him to play well. But I’d much rather see them get Wynn back in the flow, continue to integrate Sanu and Harry, and take their chances from there.

Wait, I didn’t think the exempt list applied here. Can someone educate me as to what would happen if we signed him again?

He can be suspended while not on a team. He cannot be put on exempt list while not on a team.

If this is true about suspension while a free agent, I stand corrected. That just doesn’t make sense to me. I guess RG could say, here’s the punishment(4 games?)and the clock starts ticking once he signs somewhere. But I honestly think the league office wants him effectively shut down for the season.
