Pretty big signing for them. Historically, Pujols averages .328/.420/.617 with 170 OPS+ as a Cardinal and .256/.311/.448 for either LA!

I'm kind of curious what he's playing for at this point, pulled up some of his career numbers and there's a few milestones in reach:

12th in Hits all time, but only needs 19 to pass Eddie Collins and Paul Molitor to finish 10th. An additional 100 after that to pass Yaz, and he hasn't had 120 hits in a season since 2019.
4th all time in Total Bases. Needs 38 to pass Willie Mays and 99 to pass Musial. He did have 119 total between the two LA teams last season, so this one is within reach.
5th all time with 679 HRs. 18 to pass ARod and obviously 21 to join the 700 club. Ruth is quite a ways off. He had 17 HRs total last season.
3rd all time with 2150 RBIs. 64 behind Ruth for 2nd and he had 50 last season.

Any speculation on the playing time he'll be getting? He rebounded a bit in the Dodgers with a .254/.299/.460 line as compared to his .198/.250/.372 for the Angels. Seems like a fortunate beneficent of the leaguewide DH to give him an extra year to his career.

I didn’t realize Arod was so close to 700 HR. I imagine it stings he didn’t get those last few. Pity.

He had 614 at age 34 and seemed a lock to blow past 700. If he had matched what Papi did age 35-40 he would have ended up with 805.

STL Post Dispatch has him as a "righthanded DH against lefthanded starters or a deterrent off the bench against lefties in late innings." So it seems like a pretty decent amount - I think he's a lock to get 10th all-time hits. 21 homers is a bit of a stretch.

Yeah, 21 seems unlikely - he had 17 in 296 PAs in 2021. Covid may have screwed him out of getting to 700 - he only had 6 HR in 2020. A fuller 2020 season probably gets him over the hump.

Now is the time to reveal that he actually turned 52 back in January rather than 42. He instantly becomes eligible for all the "oldest player to..." categories.

Part of the reason the yankees essentially forced him out when they did was because there was going to be another big fight over whether he was entitled to the big 700th home run bonus he had in his contract that the yankees didn't want to pay out, even though he clearly was entitled to it.

The main part was that he couldn't hit anymore and NY had better uses for the roster spot, he was 8 for 59 in his final six weeks active with 1 HR and a .420 OPS. They brought up Aaron Judge for the first time the day after A-Rod's final game.
