I have nothing against the Tigers, but I enjoy seeing Scherzer getting hit, esp. by the likes of JJ Hardy, b/c I regard his rejection of a very generous offer by the Tigers as rather arrogant. (P.S. I don't know why I am getting this underlining.)
I'm rooting for the Tigers just because of Buck Doubleday.InsideTheParker said:You forget that Buck S. is a genius.

As I recall, Sox won, so who cares?mikeford said:Where were pitches that bad in last year's series
Rough Carrigan said:Well, yeah, Miller's a data point but only one. To validate that thesis you'd have to decide what is blossoming as a pitcher, getting to a 100 era+ or better in 100 innings? The standard is kind of arbitrary. And then you'd have to show at what age pitchers reached this standard in the past and now. There have always been guys like Miller who for whatever reason couldn't get in sync at first.
I should just drop it but I'm still wound up about shit like this after seeing Harold fucking Reynolds the other night. He's so averse to thinking it's ridiculous. He was talking about some pitcher and said that his team must have much bigger ticket sales the days of his starts. That was like the first goddam piece of fiction that Bill James exploded 30+ years ago showing that the Astros didn't sell any more tickets the days that Nolan Ryan pitched and the same was true for a couple other pitchers. 30+ years later Harold Reynolds is so impervious to ideas and discussions that he's still saying the same thing. He's like a guy in 1520's spanish ports grieving for sailors who are going to die going off the corner of the world even as galleons loaded with silver sail back into the harbor.
We did but those near no hitters took years off my lifeAl Zarilla said:As I recall, Sox won, so who cares?

I was just thinking that Miller had to have been one of the last guys who was drafted with a ML contract. He was rushed as a starter and it may have delayed his development?

And how is it stupid to hedge against the risk of injury with an insurance policy? That's the definition of not being stupid.ThePrideofShiner said:
I don't understand the hatred for Scherzer for turning down an offer. I mean, he is going to command huge money on the free agent market, so why shouldn't he take the risk of testing the waters?
Which is rather ironic in that that was one of Earl Weaver's maximsRough Carrigan said:The downside of your team relying on a whole bunch of pitching changes is that you increase the chances that you bring in someone who that day just isn't on his game.
He looks like Hagrid.Rough Carrigan said:There's Joba Chamberlain, who encompasses all of Moby Dick by being both a whale and a bearded man.
That is amazing. I find that now he's not a Yankee and has expressed his freedom by growing out his beard, he's okay by me. Of course, Scherzer might want to kill him long about now.Oil Can Dan said:I'm a little amazed at how much I still hate Joba.
