I have nothing against the Tigers, but I enjoy seeing Scherzer getting hit, esp. by the likes of JJ Hardy, b/c I regard his rejection of a very generous offer by the Tigers as rather arrogant. (P.S. I don't know why I am getting this underlining.)

Don't want to get too ahead of things with only a little over half a game played in the division series, but this team has as good a chance to win the world series as anyone and maybe better.  They kind of have that vibe about them that they are just going to get what they need.

Interestingly, there are 7 remaining teams I would rather see win it.

Just saw that Eyechart is a finalist for the Twins managerial gig. Did he ever give the ball back?

I think I remember a lawsuit between him and the team and then they settled by donating the ball to the HOF.  Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, yeah, Miller's a data point but only one.  To validate that thesis you'd have to decide what is blossoming as a pitcher, getting to a 100 era+ or better in 100 innings?  The standard is kind of arbitrary.  And then you'd have to show at what age pitchers reached this standard in the past and now.  There have always been guys like Miller who for whatever reason couldn't get in sync at first.

I should just drop it but I'm still wound up about shit like this after seeing Harold fucking Reynolds the other night.  He's so averse to thinking it's ridiculous.  He was talking about some pitcher and said that his team must have much bigger ticket sales the days of his starts.  That was like the first goddam piece of fiction that Bill James exploded 30+ years ago showing that the Astros didn't sell any more tickets the days that Nolan Ryan pitched and the same was true for a couple other pitchers.  30+ years later Harold Reynolds is so impervious to ideas and discussions that he's still saying the same thing.  He's like a guy in 1520's spanish ports grieving for sailors who are going to die going off the corner of the world even as galleons loaded with silver sail back into the harbor.

Haha. I guess my poorly-made point was that Miller was somewhat of a unique case and not necessarily an example of that trend. Anyway, nice rant against Harold. Preach on!

I agree. Especially when the prick takes out an insurance policy on himself to cover it in case he got hurt this year. I wasn't aware you could insure stupidity

We did but those near no hitters took years off my life

I wonder if Nava doesn't break up the no hitter in the ninth inning in game 1 if things turn out differently in that series.  Never know, but I wonder whether being no hit in the playoffs might have had any kind of psychological effect.

I was just thinking that Miller had to have been one of the last guys who was drafted with a ML contract. He was rushed as a starter and it may have delayed his development?

I was just looking at his career stats, and noticed his first appearances in '06 were at the Major league level with Det.

So his signing included major league appearances?  Sweet.  Weird.

I don't understand the hatred for Scherzer for turning down an offer. I mean, he is going to command huge money on the free agent market, so why shouldn't he take the risk of testing the waters?

And how is it stupid to hedge against the risk of injury with an insurance policy? That's the definition of not being stupid.

I thought that maybe Scherzer had a down year this year compared to last but really the only thing much different was that BABIP *loved* him last year, 6.4 hits/9 with that shitty Detroit defense of 2013 and it's a more normal 8+/9 this year.

Should be DET ahead....horseshoes and four leaf clovers up BAL's ass.  If they win this by one run, I'm with the poster who said "they have that WS look" to them.

I'm a little amazed at how much I still hate Joba.
That is amazing. I find that now he's not a Yankee and has expressed his freedom by growing out his beard, he's okay by me. Of course,  Scherzer might want to kill him long about now.
